Heard this on the radio and laughed.

We all knew it was coming. Also means it's time to BUY MORE AAPL.

Well deserving of Samsung. They've been trying to trash Apple so much lately and it's senseless because Apple is actually one of their customers that gets parts from them. Keep it classy Samsung, you trash a competitor's product who's indeed your own customer, you'll lose them as a customer soon enough......just as you've already lost customers to the new iPhone. :)

So true, it's like a double-whammy for Samsung.

Someone buys an iPhone, Samsung doesn't get a Galaxy sale, PLUS they don't get as large a profit of the PARTS like they used to.

People at MacRumors need to get out of the mindset that for Apple to win Samsung has to lose. >_>

It's natural for people to react this way, Samsung took plenty of shots against Apple's customers base, they mocked, made fun and tried to hit on every nerve so it is fun to watch them fail although they are far from being close to doomed and they will probably bounce back on their next release cycle but it's good that Apple contributed in causing this drop by honest competition, something Samsung failed to accomplish with all the bad ads they made yet Apple stood solid and now it's Apple having the last laugh.

Did you actually think before your read my post?

You're missing the point entirely my friend. The profits have likely been hit due to the fact that Apple are limiting what they spend with Samsung as a supplier. Where did I mention anything about profits being hit as a result of the iPhone6[+]?

Wrong again, my friend. This article is about Samsung's mobile devices unit, not about Samsung's OEM parts division.

Apple should be worried also... the market is saturated, growth is slowing, technology is turning stagnant.

You Apple fans can celebrate today, but tomorrow it will be your turn to cut losses.

Mark my words.

That is like saying ....

Summer will end.......and eventually snow will fall.

Every company will eventually have a down cycle (maybe even the end), but as Apple is going that will be a long while.

Yes, look at the total failure the iPod turned into once it destroyed Creative, Sony and the whole lot of DAP competitors. From 2004 on it was a complete disaster, really.

With sony, htc, etc making good highend phones and also low end phone makers xiaomi, it would eat samsungs profit for sure.
Which is a good thing, so they would be forced to innovate.

Well, innovation hardly comes when you need it, though. I mean I'm not sure if they have what i takes, in order to be capable to innovate. Regardless of people's whine every now and then, Jonny Ive is not doing an easy job.

I'll agree 100% on the first part, though. Biggest opponent of Samsung is not Apple. It's the rest of the android-running mobile device manufacturers. They are the ones who cannibalize Samsung's sales.

The market has enough space for both Samsung and Apple to be profitable. But while Apple plays alone on their side, Samsung does not. They should have made some unique ideas in order to be on top of the competition, but they chose not to invest in such things.

Stupid Moronic Headline.

Yes, Samsung profits fall, good quality low priced models coming up.

NOT because Apple have just in the past couple of weeks launched a large screen model.

Sheesh.

Would be interesting to see both flagship phones from Apple and Samsung go on sale during the same week. We could even argue about who's standing in line the longest and for what model phone.

I think that should be directed at you as you clearly did not read the original post. Otherwise you would have seen this will be the fourth consecutive quarter that profits have dropped......

i love my iphone but this is really bad news for apple people.

we need cometition so apple actually does at least try to compete. there are things in the samsung phone i wish apple would do. same goes for htc and motorola and LG and MS. if these companies don't thrive then we just keep getting minor upgrades instead of revolutionary ones. my sister uses a samsung and while it feels like a hunk of plastic garbage it has a few features i wish my iphone had. and i'm taking the iphone 6. where it really gets bad is with the ipad. if surface ran osx i'd ditch my ipad in a second. tim likes to make fun of it but its a lot closer to what i want than the ipad. but since no one bus them ipad doesnt have to even try to compete and they don't!! i've only seen comercials for that cortana but it does seem better than siri. but we won''t see an osx tablet any time soon i fear. why would they when suface barely moves 1000 a month if that!!

Competition IS good; I hope Samsung actually DOES it instead of relying on cheap imitation.

Maybe this will get their engineers to really innovate, so that everyone will benefit.

To me, who had an S3 for about a year, Samsung phones do not offer anything equal to an iPhone, in almost any dimension.

It won't be Apple that destroys them; it will be Xiaomi. They're better copiers.

Yes this is very true. Samsung losing the battle to Chinese OEMs in the lower end market will only hurt Apple in the long run. Windows is not doing very well in the mobile industry hurts apple. this industry needs balance to have innovation

Windows Phone lack of success is simply the fault of not getting phone out to the pubic. Thier marketing department blows.

When windows phone first came out MS should have flooded the market wiith low cost or free with a contrat phones to build a base, that would be willing to stay.

The OS is nice, and with some tweeks here at there it could easily rival android, and possilby i0S in time.

ya -- aaaannnnny year now. just you wait. this ipod/imac/iphone/ipad nonsense will all peter out and then there will be DOOOOOOOM!!!!

htc innovate. Motorola innovate. Samsung copy, teardown their competitors' products, and market them at a cheaper price. The competitors sue, samsung counter-sue to increase the length of the court case, and by the time they need to pay a settlement they've made so much profit from the products that the settlement is absolutely inconsequential.

They've done it with vacuum cleaners (dyson), photography (kodak), television (sharp), and phones (apple).

Not to mention they've got a class action lawsuit against their fridges and washing machines.

That's why myself and others are more than happy to see samsung fail.

this.

Amazing how people here still call them "Samesung", when Apple JUST entered the phablet market that Samsung started years ago.

The irony of that is just delicious, but unfortunately goes right over the heads of most posters here, because :apple:

Pretty sure you're just parroting the same thing everyone else says whenever Samsung takes a loss. You really think Apple will just kick back and relax just because competition isn't there as much anymore? Pretty sure they have more sense than that.

I had no idea there was a patent on making "phablet" sized phones. If there was, you can be sure Samesung would infringe upon it.

I had a Samsung once, the Galaxy S, and after that experience I will not buy another Samsung phone.

I've tried iOS and Android, next time I'll go for Windows Phone. HTC One or something.:apple:

Sam-sung...

Sam's sung the tune of blatant copycat & hymn of unscrupulous ethos, accompanied by an orchestra of mockery to the rhythm of quantity over quality...

Here's in hopes of hearing Sam-sung's swan-song sung soon, so Apple can post it to iTunes...

I agree with you completely!:apple:

Now, now. No reason to get snippy because Apple copied Samsung.

Apple can't be an innovator all the time. They occasionally get their ideas from somewhere else.
