As others have already stated, this is no big surprise. The only real "innovation" Samsung offered was a larger screen size. It became an obstacle for some to purchase an iPhone as the larger screen sizes appealed to so many. That differentiation is gone for Samsung

I would argue that there is still quite a differentiation in that Samsung's phone is not an iPhone. Meaning - if you don't want or like iOS, then there is an alternative (actually several). So Samsung might have lost an important differentiation - but they still have some

not really. Samsung's entire mobile offering is a direct ripoff of Apple's.

Samsung may have made a phablet first, but Apple made it *right*. same stories w/ tablets, smartphones, music players, and personal computers -- apple isn't concerned w/ being "first!", just right.

Seriously? Ok.

I have no pity ! Because I don't like the copy&paste company :p Whoever digs a pit will fall into it

Whew! One of the self-appointed forum police didn’t show up till a few dozen posts in ... I was getting worried their morning search for ’Samsung’ didn’t work :D Hopefully dispatch will get the others here soon!

Lol...it is always funny how the upset Samsung users always appear in this thread and then say they're here to be entertained by the apple faithful....

Well, I have to say: iPhone is most people's choice.

PANG!

I said this before....there you go Samesung!

this is the main reason that bendgate went viral.

suck it Samesung! :apple:

I used windows for decades and used many other phones. But only when I got my first Mac and 4S, I truly began to appreciate the super convenience and enjoyment of Hight Tech. I really thank Apple for making great products so that I can focus on what I do, and don't have to waste time debugging all the problems of the devices. Thanks, Apple!:p

When people get sick in your factory, as it happened at Samsung, and then the company does whatever is in their power to keep the lids on it, to pretend nothing happened, and most importantly to avoid giving those people any help and any compensation, that is evil. It's like a hit-and-run with your car. You are not evil for hitting a person with your car, but you are evil if you drive away leaving them injured on the street, to avoid your insurance cost going up.

That is a good analogy. I don't know. I guess I don't expect much good from any company. At least Apple has acknowledge a commitment to supplier responsibility.

If the iPhone 6/Plus does indeed end up decimating Samsung's phablet profits in the next 3-4 months….. then the next Samsung quarterly report (in January 2015) will be even more butt-hurt than the one reported this week.

I guess we will see…. in January 2015!

I hear Samsung has just invested 14 Billion Dollars into a brand new memory manufacturing facility to be built soon.

It's always easier for large companies with many strings to their bow to flex with sales, as opposed to other brands who are very narrow.

I often feel that 3/4 or more of the people here think Samsung will go bust if they don't sell enough phones of something.
I'm not Pro/anti Samsung at all, and I'm not Pro/anti Apple, Just Anti Stupid and there is sadly a LOT of stupid expressed here often :(

Competition is good. But Samsungs poor sales is also good for iPhone users. This is because it will force them to innovate or do something new or different with their next phones. They may fail, but that is their own fault.

I thought this would be the year we saw sales of the iphone slow. Meaning the iphone 6 would actually sell less than previous versions for the reasons you mentioned. I was definitely proven wrong.

Do you want to hazard a guess on next year? I think there is plenty of room left in the smartphone market for it to grow. And there are still lots of users of inferior but cheaper devices who may be upgraded to iOS. But the end of growth has to come eventually. The million dollar question is when.

I think you're wrong.
I think ANDROID and Apple can coexist happily both successful. However, I think Samsung will continue their horrible illegal business practices, blatant copying, and generally pour salt in the game in every conceivable way. I think the only way they're ever going to stop is when they become less successful. Then we can have the happy choice between quality products from Apple, who are playing fair & creating their own products & all the Android handset manufacturers who are also playing fair and creating their own products... if Samsung in the future decides that would be a good route, they could slip back into the fold.

^^^^

Personally, I WANT Android to continue to succeed. It keeps Apple pushing forward. I have very little respect towards samsung though, reason being is I don't like their business practices. That is why I do not, and will not buy any more samsung products. Appliances, TV's... nothing. I respect Microsoft, Motorola, HTC etc. because they at least TRY to bring in their own originality into the mix. I think the Motorola watch is the best one on the market. HTC makes great phones. Even Google. I dislike them, but I respect them and their products.

You can be successful in business without being a blatant *******. I'm a consumer, and a potential buyer of YOUR products. Don't paint me as an idiotic troll who cannot make an educated decision on my own. The insults finally caught up to me.

As someone who works in the industry, I am first and foremost an Apple Enthusiast. I firsthand get to see the different demographics for both Samsung and Apple devices everyday and see strengths in both companies. It's no secret that Samsung's Galaxy Light is the one of the best smartphones that $100 can buy off contract... People that just want a phone and don't care about apps or web access love this phone. I've even had customers buy one and then an iPad just because they want the best Tablet experience. The $100 price tag leaves more money in their pocket, allowing them to try that iPad out. Who knows maybe they'll buy an iPhone next time around. Maybe see features in the new Samsung Tablet next time. That's up to them.Point being, I'm on the competition is better bus and can appreciate both company's offerings.

Samsung and Apple leapfrogging each other and the difference in opinions is only beneficial to the market.

Yes you will. Don’t lie.
If you really had the courage of your convictions you’d avoid anything knowingly made with their products. What you mean is you’ll turn a blind eye this time coz you love iPhones.

Do you own Samsung shares?

I drive 10-15 miles just to keep up with the traffic; most other times I do that anyway! What is your point? Mega corporations bend the rules as it suits them - that is not news!

No Android phone will be as good as it is without Apple's success, i.e., quality and fan-base.

All the smart phones and computers we use are like those 300++ HP 6-12 cylinder cars we drive, way more power and speed than we need or use - though the environmental impact is not so obvious.

Please speak for yourself.

My i7 PC, I want desperately to be, 10x at least the power it is today.

Most night now I'm waiting 10 or 15 mins for 1 frame to render.

Even 20x the current speed of my PC would only just be getting bearable.

Apple would just be the straw that broke the came's back. Samsung can't even decide what product they want you to have. Isn't it sad that the 2012 Galaxy Note 10.1 is JUST getting KitKat in other countries? Once Samsung releases a product, they don't care anymore.

We are always told about how Apple is doomed with its falling market share (which is in fact falling share of the smart phone market, with more cheap phones being replaced by equally cheap smart phones). But Apple is in the high end of the market, where profit is made, even when the unit sales are not that high.

Apple is hitting Samsung hard with the iPhone 6 because Samsung loses buyers in the profitable part of the market. It won't do that much to Samsung's market share. That's what the makers of cheap smartphones are doing. They are what makes Samsung's market share drop and makes them look bad; Apple is kicking them where it hurts financially.

I believe Samsung is indeed trying to saturate the market with soo many products. If only they developed customer service and an ecosystem such as that as Apple, there would be exceptional competition.

Apple shall always be premium so long as they keep up with the quality products and have an echo system maintaining them. It's no doubt that the Note series of phones are compatible and very good but the ecosystem that supports them just isn't there.

One that is good at everything is great at nothing.

How is it that they made it *right*? I've owned iPhones since the 3G up to the 5 and now have a Galaxy S5 (my first Android OS phone); both phones are great but I think I just got tired of the iPhone because I had been with it so long I wanted to try something new. I haven't had one single problem with my S5 nor did I with any of my iPhones, both phones have their pros and cons but I think it comes down to which OS you prefer... just like Mac or PC.

Samsung phones are great, despite the abundance of plastic in their designs. The problem is what they put on those phones. Android is merely OK, but the ecosystem is very much subpar and touchwiz is a complete disaster. If Android had an ecosystem as good as that of IOS and Samsung would stick to something very close to stock Android (or at least allow you to root without voiding the warrenty), then I'd be more than happy to be Samsungs little slave and Apple could kiss my big hairy butt for all I care. However, that's not the case, so I'm sitting here waiting patiently for my 6+ to show up. Hopefully it'll happen this month and hopefully I won't have to exchange it numerous times due to various screen issues.

I guess iPhone 6 Plus is supposed to bend then after all. Must be part of the design Apple was going for.

And I guess the 8.0.1 update was designed to disable cellular and leave their customers in the dark.

But, like you said, at least they're doing all of that "right".

Annnnddd...so it begins. I've been saying for years that all Apple needs to do is release a bigger iPhone and a few more customization options in iOS and the major points of differentiation are completely wiped out for Android manufacturers like Samsung.

Unless people start considering plastic, faux leather, and band-aid pattern backs a positive point of differentiation, Samsung is "doomed!";):apple:
