1. Back up your claim

2. Back up your claim. I'll do it for you. The method used is the same. The sensor on the S5 and the camera+flash on the 5s measures the change of color in your finger due to the blood flowing in and out. Same method used at the hospitals with that gadget that clamps to the tip of your finger with a light in it.

3. Once again, Samsung rushed 4K video recording to say they did it first. They can't even include stabilization yet. Why have that much detail and resolution if the video is ruined by all the shaking? Again, you will be limited to who you can share the video with because 4K TV's isn't mainstream yet and most computers cannot render 4K smoothly yet.

4. That water and dust resistance caused the device to be bigger. Not worth the .1 inch, IMO.

5. The ROM size for the S5 is now 8GB. Talk about bloat.

Samsung has ventured so far away from what Android is that I believe it's a detriment to Android overall.

How many times do we see people claim that android has a laggy UI. Slow programs. Things aren't smooth and that there's not enough ram or free space.

This is nearly all Touchwiz problem. Not android.

its also why google had to have a nice sitdown with Samsung asking them to scale back their customization.

On my old Note II. I ran Touchwiz 4.3 afor a while, Then ran CM with 4.3. Night and day. Touchwiz was everything everyone here often says about Android. Laggy. Buggy, Bloated. CM10 w/ 4.3 (same underlying adndroid version as Touchwiz was) and it was smooth and silky.

4.4 on the NExus is even smoother. there's no missing frames in animations. its responsive. Quick and actually on par with the 'smoothness' of iOS.

However, because Samsung is the #1 Android maker. Too many people confuse the bloatest mEss of Touchwiz with what Android actually is.

on the Nexus5, 4.4 takes up < 4gb. And with 2gb ram, on first boot (IIRC) had about 1gb of RAM free.

Samsung really needs to fix Touhcwiz. it to me is their #1 biggest issue.

It was actually started by Nokia's attempt to knock down iOS (which was then to Symbian S60v5 like Android 4.* is to iOS 7 now) with a patent war.

I meant about talking about it on this thread!

Not sure. Lot of people claim that the newest Sense from HTC isn't nearly as intrusive as Touchwiz and actually kind of nice to use.

People hate LG's skin.

Haven't seen Sony's so dunno what they're doing.

Unfortunately, despite all this, the happiest Android users tend to be those who run custom roms to bring themselves closer to android stock, or are on Nexus Devices.

I hate to say it, but I think Android needs to wholly clamp down on the skinning of Android. Put limitations in there that demand that skins cannot be detrimental to performance of the device, or must be able to maintain a certain FPS of the UI or something. Cause Samsung is a prime example IMHO of what too much skinning can do to perception

But, Samsung does have it's own mobile OS. Called Tizen. However, we all know Samsung wouldn't be the massive juggernaught in mobile right now if it weren't for android (my opinion, don't hate)

Did anyone notice that he never tried a finger that wasn't programmed?

Strangely, he used BOTH his thumb and index finger during fingerprint learning. Would have thought that would have given an error message, but didn't.

Makes you skeptical as to how reliable the scanner is at detecting non-self fingerprints.

OR you can program multiple fingers if you want ...

cant say why he did not try another finger that was not programmed ...

Nooooo. I stunk when Motorola did it. It stunk when Apple did it, and now it stings that Samsung is doing it. Leave my fingerprints alone:)

If I ever get one, I will always unlock it with my middle finger.

Apple does something first: woohoo, apple is innovative and visionary
Apple does something later: zeah, apple carefully improved and implemented it

Samsung does something first: scamsung, rushing products based on rumors of apple
Samsung does something later: scamsung, they only copy apple and cant come up with somthing on their own

I agree. The average person, that owns a Samsung phone probably thinks TouchWiz is what Android is all about.

Every night I bow down and praise the Samsung gods of innovation.

I will stick to the Nexus 5. 100%satisfaction, can't see any reason to switch. (Used switch on purpose, will not say 'upgrade').

PS: iPhones suck. After upgrading to Nexus 5 my only regret is that I did it so late.

Nice specs! Let's see what the iphone 6 has up its sleeve. Improved water protection would be great indeed!

Please Apple give us more benefit with Touch ID rather than just unlocking the phone and purchasing apps

Photos private mode for example :(

I reckon there will be more done with Touch ID going forward. If you want Apple to know more, go to their feedback section rather than asking apple on here.

We will hopefully see more of such features in ios8. My guess is that 2013 has been a busy year for Apple, what with ios7 and all, and they simply haven't had the time to build on other features like touch ID.

Android cannot afford to take away the customization it offers to OEM's. Thats one reason they like android, they do not have to do a cutting edge software (None of these companies are really top notch when it comes to software like say apple, microsoft or google) and yet can still do a little to set themselves apart from dozens of other OEM's using essentially the same software.

The google play answer is the best according to me, because that allows very quick updates (doesnt it?)...It really sad for companies to start supporting phones alltogether..Samsung would not be updating android software any further to the galaxy S3...their flagship phone from 2 years go.

Well thats apple for you. Its not like they go out and buy a touch sensor form synaptics/validity, get kit kat from google etc etc They have had to do ios7 and plan its updates, work on ios8, buy authentec, incorporate its smart technology into the home button (a patented approach) and then design the A7 processor with the secure enclave. Apple tends to "care" about every aspect of detail, rather then strap on stuff and call it a winner ;)

On the flip side - compared to the native Android camera App, I think Samsung's solution is miles above their competition (at least on Android - and I would argue on iPhone as well).

I would have gone with HTC based on build quality and overall "skin" - but their camera software and performance wasn't remotely in the same ballpark

The one thing i can't stand most about the Nexus5 and 4.4 is the camera app.

its just frustrating to use. The UI is crappy and Android still doesn't understand the concept of not cropping. If you're showing me a 16:9 image on my screen. And I press the shutter button. Don't only take a 4:3 image.TAKE THE WHOLE DAMN THING!

The UI is crappy. It's very hard to make selections (and I'm talking about a Nexus 7). I can't even imagine having a stock camera on a phone where the screen would be even harder to select various photo options.

I have not used the native iOS camera app since iOS7 launched, but find that the camera on the phone coupled with ProCamera7 to be more than enough to handle any use i may put my phone camera too.

I wonder why they don't do android..its a very very well done application..

Camera quality should be improved this year and i am sure better apps exist on google play..

I have some downloaded. Still prefer the native app. But I also don't use all those filters, etc.

I find it funny that we've progressed so much in the way of imaging (clarity, megapixels, color, focus, etc) on devices and yet most people degrade their photo to make it look like it was done in the 70s/80s (Instagram users I'm looking at you). So what's the point in having the greatest camera tech in a phone when many don't even care ;)

And yes - I realize I am speaking in hyperbole... mostly.

I'm still trying to figure out the HTC one "2" dual camera setup. I'm not sure we really understand what it'll be until HTC themselves announce / release it.

Overall though, the concept of "ultrapixel" is cool. But it drops the detail levels below what I believe is acceptible for 2014. I know it's not all about megapixel. But when you drop below 5mpx you start entering the realm of noticeable degradation of detail. having tremendous low light is nice, but doesn't make up for the fact that regular light stuff just didnt look that good.

and that App looks really good. Would love to see it make its way to android. Currently I've been using PhotoShop touch for my camera ap since i had paid for that anyways. But it's not really meant to be a camera app

as someone who started taking photos on a 16mm disc rotary camera with terrible photo quality. Who has used a 35mm film camera from the 50's that has no digital or automatic features and had his fair share of poloroids.

I never, EVER, want to go back to those picture qualities. I love digital and what its brought. The picture quality and clarity. it drives me nuts that people are purposely trying to make their photos look "artistic" by applying crappy filters that we've worked decades to prevent cameras from doing on their own.

Anyone applying those old filters should be forced to use this camera for a while and see if they still appreciate it :p

Social networking! crappy, filtered photos earn many more likes :) The only filter in pro camera i really use is black and white..but this app does awesome exposure control, night mode and the entire UI is super...Native apps will never be able to compete with a bunch of photo enthusiasts getting together and making a dedicated app :)...Its like apple trying to do an app that matches flipboard! Won't be able to come close..

...unless they buy them... LOL.

Agreed. With my DSLR, I only shoot raw. I'm hoping that one day cameras and storage get to the point where they can also shoot in raw format and then it will open up a world of abilities to get photos (from a phone) to look fantastic even when not shot that way.

Indeed. I took pictures with everything from 126, to 110 to disc, to 35mm, etc. While I can appreciate artistic uses of filters, etc - it's too ubiquitous and should be an exception not a rule. And in many apps - it just bloats the software (for me) because I don't touch it

i dont think move to RAW on smartphones will suddenly make them better. it would be a welcome feature, but you're still going to run into the same issues of small sensor size, terrible (relative to SLR) lens setups and a lack of manual control over the photography triumvirate. (Aperture, Shutter, ISO)
