Actually I see this more for one of these as a possibility

Nintendo innovation improved with tech advancement!

Actually from the article "US Army's current exploration the concept of thin wrist-mounted displays that provide real-time UAV imagery" amongst the other fictional examples as in the predator movies call of Duty etc

Let me guess...it’s goig to be chock full of compromises, not ready for prime time, etc. but the tech press will ogle over it anyway because they have ADD and are always looking for the next thing to hype.

And then it will be the best invention since sliced bread when Apple does it and everyone can claim Samsung copied Apple.
[doublepost=1536284875][/doublepost]
And yet another crap Android device being introduced to mankind. This one will be a foldable crap device.

Very profound.

That is simply disingenuous.
Samsung has been talking for years about flexible, foldable displays. Only recently Samsung has been talking about an actual foldable phone. And when Samsung Mobile's CEO is saying they will launch such a phone soon I see no reason to doubt or question his statements.
Samsung started talking about folding phones in 2013. Look on YouTube for Samsung video in 2014 on folding phone. 5 years now and nothing. CEO and other sr executives sending mixed signals on folding phone. They bring up folding phone to try and distract from the fact they have nothing to compete this holiday season with new iPhones. Sales down 10 million last quarter, this next quarter will be even worse for them

I have a 15 year old Samsung A-650 foldable phone, one of the first cell phones with a camera. It still folds just fine, boots up, and the battery still charges. If I could find a replacement battery I'd reactivate the phone with my carrier and carry it around just for the novelty. Here's a photo of one for sale (not mine, which I'll keep.). It was sort of novel to watch people's reaction when you asked them to pose for phone.

I'm not talking about a clamshell phone.

I'm talking about things like this thread with a foldable screen which thus has to flex back and forth repeatedly.

I had a foldable phone back in 1995, before colour LCDs (or even LCD displays) were on phones.

It had a red LED matrix display for the phone number only.

You have to understand that the internet is a tool for corporations and nation states to try to influence folks minds. Don't think for one second Samsung hasn't set up shop on these forums in the form of Apple bashers to try and influence purchases of their products. Think about it. What normal person would hang out on a fan site of something they don't like just to bash?
Um that's kind of a dumb realization. Fanboys. Idiotic fanboys. That's who. If you go to Samsung YouTube and some of their videos, there's gonna be apple fanboys attacking Samsung and its comentors for simple saying "i like Samsung"

They have little hope of freezing iPhone sales with this latest foldable tablet FUD.

Their CEO brilliantly explains why they haven’t bothered bringing it to market, as there’s still this (as yet) unanswerable question:

“But even unfolded, what kind of benefit does that give compared to the tablet? If the unfolded experience is the same as the tablet, why would they (consumers) buy it?"

If they ever actually bring their foldable tablet to market, I think they’re going to find out that customers don’t want it any more than they do their non-folding one.

Many have pointed out that Samsung are a major driving force in keeping Apple on their toes, and I personally think it’s been historically true (and vice versa too). It’s sad then that something that Samsung’s been touting and failing to actually make since 2011 (https://www.washingtonpost.com/tech...is-year/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.8ea370b45d6d) is the best they could half-heartedly trot out to try and take the wind out of Apple’s sails/sales this year.

We’ll see. I’m genuinely not counting them out. They are a technology powerhouse. l’m certainly a bit skeptical about the technology and the execution though, and I’ve had 7 years to contemplate it.

Yep customers don’t want their phones. Yet they sell more phones than any other manufacturer in the word. Their flagship phones sell more than any other android OEM flagships. I’d say some people do want their phones.

As for this folding phone. I’ll have to see it first before I can make my mind up on it.

I airdrop between my devices, which happen to be mostly Apple devices. Mac/iPad/iPhone. Songs/Movies/Ringtones etc are thing of the past for me. I pay a small fee and stream anything and everything I want. Ringtones I used to use when I was a teenage. Photos and videos taken with iPhone or iPad, I Airdrop. If I want them on an Android device or PC, I can access them from DropBox or Google Drive. Hassle free and no drama.

Yeah, that's a nice collection of "I"s. Apple devices are not the only devices in this world, so proprietary solutions are no solutions if they cannot work with anything that doesn't have an apple sticked on it. Streaming is not a solution everywhere, e.g. in cases where you don't have a wifi access or even a 4g connection. Having an actual computer in your pocket with the full list of features a computer is supposed to have, is not a small detail, it's a great convenient. The fact that you are forced to live without it, does not make it insignificant. Lack of customisation is also not insignificant for the most personal device we carry. It's just that because you cannot do it, you've trained yourself to ignore it.

There are differences between simplicity and limitation. Apple cannot tell these differences so it constantly moves between those two.

I think them ‘rushing it out’ this year has nothing to do with Apple. They want to get theirs out before Xiaomi, Oppo and Huwawei who have all been rumoured to be releasing bendable phones this year. Samsung want to be first to do it. They aren’t really moving it that far forward. Latest rumours state it will be revealed at their developers conference in November. They were apparently going to reveal it at CES in January next year, so it’s only being brought forward by 2 months.

Where do I start?
Firstly, I don't won only Apple devices, but if I do that is my personal choice, they suit me best, they work better then any other out there for me so there you have it.I have no time or money to waste with garbage that does not work well. What other people use is not my concern.
You seem to not have used streaming, otherwise you would know that you can create countless of playlists with the songs/music you like and make it available off line. Listen to it when you are in the Amazon forest (or wherever you may find yourself away from civilisation without internet) Same on Netflix. Watch any movie off line.
And just to make one thing clear, I am not forced to live without anything. I am well decided on stuff that I buy and I chose to use what I chose because it works great for my needs and has everything I need. And I have explained how things work on the argument that you brought earlier (about how you connect an Android phone device via a wire to access the files) That is so last century btw. Can't remember last time I needed to connect a phone to a computer to access anything, must have been years ago. Do all file transfer like a breeze, even between iOS and Android without having to use any wire. Doing it via a wire is very old. Things have changed a bit on the last 10 years.

I don’t have the time or care to scroll through your older posts. But I see right thru you.
That sounds so ridiculously childish.
Who are you exactly?

They only started showing flexible displays in 2013 and hinting at what devices could they create with such screens.
They didn't say: "Stating today(2013) we are beginning work at making a foldable phone and we will release it in 2016".

I don't understand why you feel the need to be disingenuous about this matter.

Really? how do you know?
Also Samsung lost sales because of the incredible tough competition they are facing from Chinese manufacturers.
But Samsung is not the only one that lost sales: HTC, Sony, LG have the same problem.
The market is clearly changing and Samsung has to adopt a new strategy and honestly it's a good thing for them.
Maybe you will learn something(although I doubt it).

Weren't most phones before the iPhone foldable?
You mean "bendable"? ... ergo Bendgate? lol :p

But seriously, if Apple did go ahead with a foldable iPhone in the future I think that would be my replacement for iPad Mini. An iPhone for regular usage but then for traveling or reading books etc you have the unfolded screen that is somewhat an iPad (mini).

As others have said, can the laws of physics and technology allow for a screen that bends without it starting to crease or crack over time??
Perhaps the internal foldable screen will be disposable/replaceable or recyclable? Maybe the screens will be cheap enough to allow regular replacement?

A foldable phone may mean a thicker, bulkier phone too. I guess it depends on how they make it work.

Anyway if technology advancements can pull this off then I'm all for it. :)

Samsung are loosing sales to the likes of Huwawei and one plus not Apple. They are releasing this foldable phone to beat the likes of Xiaomi and Oppo to the punch as they are all rumoured to be releasing their foldable phones very soon.

No they are simply doing it before Huawei or Xiaomi because they can(they have all the necessary tech, IP and most likely are the first company that started working am making such a phone).

But Huawei is a remarkable competitor with a lot of financial power and they obviously have a well established mission.

They were supposed to be releasing it at CES next year but are now said to be unveiling it at their developers conference in November. The rumours of them moving the release date forward only started after we started hearing about Oppo and Xiaomi releasing their bendable phones this year.

Yeah that's what some rumors said.

Was there an official announcement from Samsung regarding the announcement of the "folding phone"?
Or was there a rumour about the announcement?

No this is speculation but the evidence points to the reason behind an earlier release being due to wanted to get it out before their competitors rather than them being desperate to compete with the iPhone.

There is no evidence of this. Just rumour and speculation. Evidence and rumour are an oximoron.
