When the new design comes out I'm looking forward to all the people fondly recalling how good the TouchBar MBPs were.

The same crowd that lamented the change from the retina MBP.

The same crowd that lamented the change from the unibody MBP...

Fair enough.

I fall in the "lamented the change from unibody" camp.

Primarily because the Retina MBP MacBook Air began the "soldering" era when they soldered RAM, and the SSD was proprietary. I think OWC has made a replacement now, but that is a fairly recent development.

I still use my 2011-2012 because of this.

All signs point to a 2020 MacBook Pro redesign with reduced bezels and increased screen size. This fits in their typical 4 year redesign cycle.

The 15" model becomes a 16" model.

Apple please!!!

Make it 16.5", but use the Retina MBP as a template (at the very least).

Reduce the bezels to XPS levels, and for God's sake give us the old keyboard and socket both the RAM and SSD.

Give us non-weaklings a Pro machine worthy of the name, like your days of old.

Please.

PLEASE!

PRETTY FREAKIN' PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP A LA MODE WITH CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES ON THE SIDE AND A GALLON OF FULL FAT MILK!!!

And how do they plan to mitigate the OLED burn in? Not having the screen totally static in terms of full screen windows?

We really don't want another 4 years of repairing screens now that hopefully we will get rid of the keyboard issue.... I'd rather wait for Micro LED at this point.
Oh my god, is this 2014? Burn in has been less and less of an issue, especially with the iPhones. I haven't seen a single burn-in report for the original iPhone X. I know it's a smaller display compared to a laptop, and there are more static icons in macOS, but do you seriously expect Apple not to have taken control of this issue since they're fully aware of it?

We're seeing more and more laptops with OLED this and last year, the reviews suggest it's good for now.
And still, I'm sure Apple will have a decision about this issue.

Could I also ask for decent camera in MBP. The one is the disgrace of the 3k laptop. Seriously just use recycled iphone6 camera module...

Yeah I would like to see improvements to the camera as well.

When I Skype or FaceTime, I almost always use my MBP. I guess as far as front cameras are concerned, the priority is "selfies", but there are more uses for a camera than that. I just hope to see FaceID brought to the Mac someday.

Can you list some of the "more and more laptops with OLED"?

While there are few boutique laptops with OLED, they are far and few between because of the burn in. After few hours of static contents, repeated several days, the OLED will be permanently burn in. Even an occasional pixel shifting isn't going to work because people tend to leave the display on and active for hours on end when working.

Phones are different because not many people use the phone with the display on for hours on end (except for maps and video streaming, but video streaming tends to be much more dynamic).

If Apple uses OLED on the MacBook, it’s a ‘stop-gap until Micro-led is is ready, which I suspect isn't ready for large scale manufacturing quite yet, which Mled certainly boast its capabilities with a higher brightness, increased resolution/wider color gamut and is much more efficient, which results in extended battery life.

RE: "It is too early to say."

NO, it's NOT ! ... mini-LED backlight modules are already in Production ! ... once Yields improve later this year, & prices go down, AAPL will Release their products !

My LG OLED TV evidently constantly shifts the image a few pixels to help prevent burn-in / image retention. So if the Mac display does that (likely a bit more aggressively, but still below the threshold of detection at normal viewing distances) that might mitigate the issues. Alienware (and others?) did offer OLED displays on select gaming laptops...

I also find that running them at about 50% light output provides more than enough brightness (and also helps prevent burn-in and image retention), but then I am in a room without direct sunlight and decent light control. But a laptop user might not have that luxury - especially outside.

As others have noted, microLED makes much more sense on a laptop / PC display, so this specific rumor is probably wrong, IMO.

I could see OLED on the iPad Pro line, however.

Who cares if the keyboard is broken anyway. Fix the keyboard and thermal issues first (can’t only blame Intel) before expanding the line-up further, which also happen to be a mess these days.
Apple claims to have fixed the probkems they didn’t admit the keyboards had. Time will tell, I hope they have, I don’t want to go to windows.

I don't get why we need a 16-inch MacBook Pro when it's not much bigger than the 15.6-inch one. I hope Kuo is wrong and that it's actually 17.3-inch to make a real world difference.

Seems an odd rumour at this point I'd expect them to go straight to MicroLED.

Try your iphoneX to keep for hours on static, the burn in was resolved for the first tine by apple through software by always slightly moving the icons etc so they can adapt the same process to macos

Microled is so hard for small displays
If you want 1440p or 1800p the pixels should be cut in half, thats why we have now big tv with microled with full size microled pixels
So microled in watch smartphone even in macs i think in 4-5 years

My prediction: this 16" MacBook Pro will be the first ARM-based MacBook Pro and will replace the 15" MacBook Pro of current.

Further predictions on this machine: USB 4 (which is basically the standardization of the current Thunderbolt 3); and the Butterfly keyboard and TouchBar will both be replaced by a touchscreen haptic keyboard that functions similarly to the current TouchBar and to iOS's on-screen keyboards.

Further predictions adjacent to this machine: the 13" MacBook Pro (versions with and without TouchBar) and the MacBook Air will merge into a single machine, likely with the "Air" branding and will also be ARM-based and with the same touchscreen haptic keyboard. The rumored 32GB of RAM will be due to this switch as Apple is currently caught between. rock and a hard place when it comes to DDR3L vs DDR4L RAM and Intel machines where they do not have this limitation for DDR4L RAM with ARM.

I'm sure Apple are looking for more features to add to MacBook Pros so they can charge even more than they do now, but I'm not sure it will be OLED as static images could be more problematic than the keyboard and heat issues.

Hmm, OLED sounds great for movies, but I think I might actually prefer LCD until they can fix the black smear. If you have any true-black apps the smear is very noticeable on the XS.

Also I can't imagine how much a retina OLED 120hz panel is going to cost. I definitely wouldn't upgrade if they dropped back to 60hz.

not a chance with marzipan in this stage, and no 12" Macbook or Macbook air with ARM for at least 1 year
Expect first ARM mac starting with 2020 or 2021
