I’m always amazed when people comment so strongly on the quality of products that aren’t even for sale yet

Its only because Apple has a recent history of screwing up new features, releasing bugs to make the keynote, or releasing meaningless features just so Cook can say "Amazing". I've not seen amazing recently, iterative yes, amazing no.

What super amazing features should they be releasing right now?

No one?

"And how do they plan to mitigate the OLED burn in? Not having the screen totally static in terms of full screen windows?
We really don't want another 4 years of repairing screens now that hopefully we will get rid of the keyboard issue.... I'd rather wait for Micro LED at this point."

"I wouldn’t dream of using an OLED panel on a Mac at this point in time. Too many static UI elements that could cause burn in."

"I love my OLED TV but I'd never want to buy a Mac with an OLED screen. Ugh. Apple keeps pushing me away."

"I really hope not. OLED is flawed tech and on top of that its expensive. I hope we will use LED until microLED is ready."

"I wouldn’t want OLED on a static screen. Sounds like a nightmare."
That’s not people saying it’s “obsolete” technology or that it’s a “pos.” Some problem wouldn’t use it on a Mac or static screen. ‍♂️

Yes? According to whom? Some random armchair analysts on an internet forum?

Fact is that the OLED market has roughly doubled in the last three years and is still expected to grow for the years to come. Fact is that many TV manufacturers and computer companies, including Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Razer, are releasing new OLED based devices on the market and have many more in the pipeline. And fact is that the major OLED manufacturers, including Samsung and LG, are still investing massively in research to improve the technology.

MicroLED is the future, where everyone all invested in now.

Don't know, not my job. But I do cringe when Cook says "Amazing" and wonder what world he lives in, certainly not mine.

I went from buying new Apple hardware, laptops, phones, and desktops, every two to three years to not buying any unless it was absolutely necessary. And that was not because of finances.

I'm in the process of converting anything that can to Linux. The hardware is more performant, the cost is lower by an order of magnitude, I don't have to be locked into Apple's restricted control of my devices, I don't have to limit what software I install, and I don't have to endorse Apple's political correctness.

Yeah, I like Apple's privacy policy, but like everything else Apple does I wonder if that policy is really only marketing with no real teeth. People still cannot create their own encrypted iCloud containers. So I suspect that we'll find out in the future that Apple struck a deal with the NSA, CIA, and the FBI to give them access to whatever they want, without Apple's knowledge of course.

step 1 - Remove a CFO working as a CEO of visionary tech company.

Step 2- literally anything

Hmmmmmm, well I was going to buy the latest Macbook Pro after I graduated from University in July but I think I now may wait till October in case this Macbook Pro rumor becomes reality.

It's funny - a few years back OLED was the holy grail and second coming all rolled into one.....now it's a POS obsolete technology! :)
I think everyone was hoping the burn-in issue would eventually be solved... well, looks like it won't happen.

Yikes. So this company that spends billions on engineering and making new products is doing everything wrong and you don’t even know what they could be doing right?

Maybe it’s just that I’m getting older, but as time has passed over the years and I’ve been on boards like this and met a lot of different people and seen the same sentiments echo’d over the years, you begin...appreciating the process. We go through our cycles and it’s like everybody has gold fish memory and totally forgets.

People complain apple doesn’t care about Mac and doesn’t update it enough just because it hasn’t been updated in a few months, then they update it and not only that they give support and peace of mind to people and show that they’re making an effort to make customers happy and people still find reasons to complain. No matter what, people will complain. People will scream at apple for not innovating in certain tech spaces but when asked what they should be doing they either rattle off a check list of gimmicks or say they have no idea. Which leaves me to wonder what we even expect? It’s a laptop. They update the processors and screens sometimes. They make improvements. Are we expecting everything to turn full on sci-fi and have some technological leap in technology every couple years? It’s like people get bored and are always looking for newness but don’t realize that huge leaps don’t come every year.

I have my complaints. I think fast charging should be standard on iPhone and don’t know why the hell everything didn’t switch to usb c quickly so we could all adapt and move on. But apple as a company isn’t changing for the worse or doing badly. They’re the same they’ve always been and those that are disappointed should just leave apple if they’re so upset and go to another company that’s making the steps they want

I had 65 in OLED TV for 4 years already, without burn in. LG implemented safeguards and I am sure Apple will too. Got Iphone X right away also. While OLED has issues with uniformity and longevity, the benefits its brings are very big for me. I will buy an OLED laptop sooner or later, but 16 inch is too big for me. Infinite contrast and full color gamut on a Macbook, it's finally coming ;)

There is no real burn in issue.

I'm glad to see that someone else noticed that the Emperor is freaking NAKED.

Only problem is - it hasn't affected their bottom line. They've created a lineup of throwaway laptops, and for people like myself who are steeped in the ecosystem and have invested thousands in software, and in all honestly I love macOS - I'll keep going back for more...

Just imagine how much more expensive iPad and MacBook will get. iPad pro starts at $999. MacBook Pro 16” starts at $2999.

So, you're saying Apple is pushing you away due to a sketchy rumor you read?

I am saying that Apple has been pushing me away for a while. If this rumor is true then it would be one more reason to add to the list.

If you hadn’t noticed, MacRumors is the title of the forum so people will be discussing rumors and their implications.

I’m calling it.

16.5 inch screen
32 GB storage space
$2,999

16.5 inch screen
2 TB storage space
$4,999

No headphone jack.

The display on MBPs is still very good but it's something that hasn't changed in a while. I'd look forward to a new display technology, but only if it's actually better. Burn-in won't be an improvement.

Apple has some of the best LCD screens on the market, especially when it comes to color fidelity.

Some may want 4K or OLED, but both consume more power than LCDs. On a 13-15” laptop (eg Lenovo or Dell) a 4K screen can reduce battery life by 2 hours, give or take. Personally I prefer battery life over 4K or OLED.

We first heard about a potential 16-inch to 16.5-inch MacBook Pro from well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the notebook will launch at some point in 2019 with an "all-new design," but he did not comment on which display technology the notebook will use or share any other details.

It is my sincere hope, that an "all-new-design" means a different enclosure. One that addresses all of the biggest hates/gripes/dislikes that have been voiced so vociferously by professionals and power users over the last few years about the current generation Touch-bar "Pro" models.
A redesign not to merely look fresh and different, but to once again offer Pro/power users upgrade-ability and repair-ability, a bullet-proof keyboard, better cooling to ensure professional level GPU offerings from nVidia, greater port diversity, etc.
I think with the current MBP's Apple made the crucial mistake of thinking that these models needed be just as thin as the consumer level MacBooks. Thereby needing to make significant spec sacrifices, severely limiting the very things that are so important to the daily needs of the pro/power user.

Apple openly admitted they goofed up with the trashcan (again, their form over function mentality tripping them up... not the first time that has happened). They don't need to openly admit that they did so again with the current MBP generation. What they need to do is design and build this 16" model thinking about raw performance and service-ability first, and then design a fitting enclosure around that.

And the base model will only cost $5000.

BUT it *will* have 16 gb ram* and a 256 fb ssd* so they’re practically selling em at cost

*note that upgrading to more usable and futureproof capacities will still reflect the same increase in price that lower species base machines pay for the same jump, even though the storage gap is often considerably smaller — Apple has to eke a profit out somewhere along the chain!

Key points from this article:
  • LG is in some trouble because their LCD business makes less money
  • Their OLED business is growing and making a profit, albeit not one large enough to make up for the diminished gains from the (larger) LCD business
  • Samsung is working on new, improved OLED displays which use an extra layer of quantum dot filters on top of OLEDs to enhance brightness and colour gamut (essentially the OLED based equivalent to their LCD based "QLED" displays)
Where exactly did you get the impression that OLEDs are already a dying technology from this article?

MicroLED is the future, where everyone all invested in now.
Yes, µLEDs are very likely the future, but even if I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, it's not an immediate future. It will be years until these displays become pervasive and affordable enough.

OLEDs aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I hope they change it to 17in at 16:10.
They might be replacing the 15in model with the 16in if its going to be in the same size chassis. If that's the case there will never be a 17in. Maybe a 19in in a 17in chassis? :)

On the iPad, I'd always take ProMotion over OLED so I'm fine with OLED as long as they can have a great refresh rate.
I think OLED would be great on the iPad if you use it for watching videos or movies, it isn't something I usually do on my iPhone but of course blacks are way better on the OLED.
On the Mac I don't know, I'd like a bigger display reducing bezels and the most important thing is reducing glare as much as possibile, I don't really care about OLED there.
