If so, that wouldn’t matter much to me, I always use a screen protector no matter how tough the screen is. That is my piece of mind. Micro scratches will always show up. It’s too easy & convenient to replace a sheet of glass.

^^^ This

I cannot cope with marked screens (my OCD gets the better of me); fitting a decent screen protector like Spigen etc, gives me huge peace of mind...

Galaxy S26 models might get the Pixel phone app with scam detection

Reminds me of the line from the movie Cool Hand Luke- "Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.".

I haven't had any scam/phish/smish/spear... issues using Samsung Galaxy phones since S23+ days. Prior to that Pixels and OnePlus. All have been with MVNO T-Mobile prepay service.

Gotta admit. I'm a bit torn. I really like my Z Fold 7 but the privacy screen sounds so cool. And I had a situation the other day at my son's basketball game where the layout of the court made him a little farther away and I just could not get any good pictures or videos because the zoom camera on the Z Fold is not good at all. I use the inner screen quite a bit, but it's not something where I would necessarily believe that I couldn't do without either.

I had given a little thought of going back to Apple after a year away from them too, but I'm pretty comfortable in Samsung/Google's ecosystem now. Switching back to Apple just seems like a chore at this point lol. But the 17 Pro Max does look so good.

Trading in my Buds 3 Pro for the Buds 4 Pro... hopefully there's a good trade in.

If you can wait until the fall... I suspect Samsung address the zoom lens issue for the Fold series. Because supposedly there's really no major changes only better camera technology and faster charging, I would be shocked if Samsung does nothing in the camera department for the Fold 8.

I wouldn't go for the iPhone 17 range now that we are in the year that Apple are suppose to be announcing a fold of their own. I would wait and see what Samsung announce with the Fold 8 in August (that's usually when they announce) or wait to see what Apple's foldable will be like in and around September.

Yeah I think the only reason I even brought Apple into the conversation is that I'm just not 100% sure if I want to continue going with a fold or go back to a flagships slab.

In that case maybe see what Samsung announce with the S26 Ultra. I believe the event is in February.

It looks like the price of some S26 models maybe increasing. Also they will not be offering the double your storage for the same price on pre-orders.

The base S26 will be taller but much lighter. The S26+ will be the same dimensions as the S25+.

For sure. It'll be interesting to see what the trade I would be for thr Z Fold 7. You'd think I could get the S26 Ultra for dirt cheap with that trade in!

The privacy screen and built in magnets are enticing me to switch away from Apple

Privacy screens (real or electronic) don’t work for me as a photographer. Different scenarios of phone angles make the screen difficult to use as the screen goes too dark. For example, I can’t take photos with the phone over my head as in a crowd or over a fence etc because the angle is too strong to see the screen. Plus a privacy screen requires the display to get brighter to compensate for the darker glass. I’m guessing this privacy screen on the S26 ultra can be turned off. I don’t think I’m excited about that because I don’t like privacy screens anyway. I would want the f/1.4 optics on that main camera & f/2.9 on the 5x more than a screen option for privacy.

There’s been leaks showing that it will be a toggle.

I broke down and picked up a 17 PM last month. I just came back from a two week trip to New Zealand and I wanted a top notch mobile camera and similar to you, my foldable’s camera system (Pixel 10 PF) just isn’t great comparatively. And while I don’t like using all the extra layers of functionality it offers, the camera control button is awesome for quick launching the camera to capture a shot in an instant. I used it so many times. And having quick access to visual intelligence was surprisingly handy to learn about what I was looking at.

Until foldables offer camera parity with their standard smartphone counterparts, I think I’ll have to have one of each. ;)

For me the main part of a smart phone is the camera. Any rumours of the S26 Ultra getting a camera upgrade this year? Any improvement to the 200MP main camera?

The 200mp camera on both the Ultra and Fold is incredible. Improvements to the other cameras are welcome though, especially with the next Fold.
