Wearable smart watches will always be a niche market. Most people don't need one, while most people need a phone. Even if Apple comes out with one, it won't be mass accepted.

Wait... unripe tomato?

Well, it looks like Apple's new tomatos were already ripe... iPhone 1.00 was a runway hit, and iPad 1.00 was too. There is a difference between innovation and putting a bunch of technologies together in an ugly package, Sammy!

Maybe it's because I'm swiss or just a matter of taste, but I don't see me wear some computer watch which I'll have to upgrade every two years or so. It just doesn't compare to a beautiful automatic watch which one can wear for years

Sure... a little more than $299 if you want a bit of quality, but still cheaper than an iPhone 5C. ...and lasting much longer as well, I guess :)

But you're forgetting, Apple will make it both beautiful and functional.

DUH. They didn't have an Apple product to rip off. I think this pretty much proves that the TAB was an iPad ripoff.

Can we finally put this smart watch thing to bed. People don't want to pay $300+ for a smartphone accessory. And certainly not one that bulky and ugly.

Yes but that is a nice watch. A nice watch is a classy thing to have. A "smart watch" is about as cool as clipping your phone to your belt.

I don't mean to offend anyone who clips their phone to their belt, my aim is mainly at those who think it makes them look important.

i know, just sayin and its the same reason why i think those smart watches will never take off ... people simply dont wear watches to be "productive" or anything. its a "fashion statement" which those bulky ugly things clearly are not

Watch Time

As some mentioned, Samsung did not have a successful Apple product from which to "MODEL" their product.

This attempt to beat Apple to the punch with a watch product, only reinforces that Samsung flagrantly copies and relies on Apple to light the road of technology.

I'm sure once Apple releases their watch, Samsung with then have something to copy and improve their sales.

I'm more interested than exited to see what Apple comes up with for their watch.

First to market ???? Huh ???

I know Pebble was there before samsung, and I think there were a few others as well. I have been seeing an ad for one on MR for a long long time.

Interesting list of smart watches including one from 2004. http://www.smartwatchnews.org/smartwatch/

Sony is already on their second generation smartwatch.

For a company the size of Pebble, a 50,000 unit sale is great. For Samsung, they can't even pay for the company lunches with that!

And that green tomato will magically ripen shortly after Apple releases a fully ripened red cherry. Actually, that green tomato will somehow ripen into a red cherry as well.

guess how much this one is :D

While Hublot has great technology built into it, I don't really like their designs. And there are great watches that do not cost much more than a smart watch.

I've got one worth 900$ for every-day wearing and another one worth much more which belonged to my grandfather, bought after WW2. And hopefully, my son will wear it somewhen too.

A watch is much more than a piece of jewellery, not even thinking of camparing it to some cheap gadget.

Well, considering it doesn't work with most smartphones and not even all of Samsung's new smartphones, it's not hard to believe. They're marketing an extension of select few Samsung devices at $300. It's an incredibly small market. Does it even work with their flagship phone, the S4 yet? I mean come on.

No one wants to wear a watch that looks like a swatch.... well at least not any adults that I know of...

"When you're dealing with innovation and when you're dealing with startups, I always make the analogy to small green tomatoes. What we're dealing with is small green tomatoes and what we want to do is take care of them and work with them so they can become big red ripe tomatoes."

So you knew the tomato wasn't ripe, but you picked it and tried to sell it anyway?

Wow... I'm surprised.
There are 50,000 people with taste and judgement that bad?

I'd really like to see Apple pull this off with a round faced device.
If they could do that, it could be a real style coup.
I've yet to see a square face that didn't look horrible.

But you're forgetting, Apple will make it both beautiful and functional.

And still they will degrade watches to be some eye-candy gadget which doesn't last longer than max. 5 years, while a good watch can last and appeal you for decades. not to forget the story that come with watches kept for so long.

Just remember the dude from pulp fiction who kept that watch in his ass to save it for the son of his comrade ;-)

Hopefully without Christopher Walken's speech from Pulp Fiction...

by the way… i thought this guy's name sounded familiar. he was on that asiana flight that crashed at SFO and was live-tweeting pictures minutes after he jumped out of the plane.

This is a crap product, I demo'ed one in NYC (BTW they just opened up a showroom right across the street from soho apple store). Samsung isn't selling anything but you can go get free cupcakes and coffee from their store.

All these watches just are endless menus upon menus, upon menus to get anywhere. Aside from the syncing problems they were having, it is a minute quicker to just reach into your pocket and get your phone instead of trying to do anything with this device.

Plus I hate this style wristband, it's that annoying rubber that makes your wrist smell when it gets wet or sweaty.

Except when Apple brings theirs out.... then you'll be all over it telling everyone who will listen that it's the next revolutionary product from Apple.

Well, depends on what it does. I do have an iPhone, but I don't have an iPod touch. And I'm still not impressed by what the iPad can do, even though it has a much larger screen than the iPhone. So, depending on what comes out from Apple (if it ever comes out), I may just pass it. Given the limitations in screen size, I find it difficult for it to be extraordinary. But if Apple manages to make something really good, then I may consider it.

Least surprising story ever posted on MR (well except maybe the Surface flopping). I *love* my Samsung Note 3 so I'm not hating on them when I say this is a genuinely stupid product. The concept has potential but this is a rushed out lazy piece of hardware.

I work for Carphone Warehouse in the UK. They're giving Galaxy Gear's away with Note 3's on contract. We'd had the offer on for a while before I even saw we were doing it. I've not seen any orders for it at all.
