It's a POS that's all that's needed to be said, period. I guess this is what happens when you don't copy Apple. :D What is puzzling to me that were actually 50,000 people who bought this. LOL!

Why do we need a watch, or a smart watch?

The first question is to ask the captioned, if you need a watch, why it should be one as so called smart watch?

Many of us not wearing watch any more because of smart phone that we've been using for time telling. When a watch is a must to wear, it would be like when people working as a banker for example. In that case, wearing a nice watch for a man just like women wearing wake ups to make he or she look appropriate. Now it's clear that people who must be wearing a watch, has to wear something decent. e.g. a Rolex or so, it definitely won't be a smart watch. If you know what a swatch is, you know what I am saying.

Even an apple fan should look it the same way toward "iwatch" from apple, if there will be one in the future.

To the people saying price is the reason or part of it, how much do you think Apple will charge for their watch?

$300 may very well be a fair price for a product that is functional...probably not one where you have to say "people aren't taking into consideration that it's the first on the market" as if it's an honor to be their beta tester.

Yes but that is a nice watch. A nice watch is a classy thing to have. A "smart watch" is about as cool as clipping your phone to your belt.

I don't mean to offend anyone who clips their phone to their belt, my aim is mainly at those who think it makes them look important.

Spoken like a true MacRumors member who will be lining up on launch day to have this newest item. Preordering a tempered glass screen protector and looking for that perfect case for your iWatch

No need for a Screen Protector when your bezel retains Sapphire. :apple:

guess how much this one is :D

That. Looks amazing, for one. Two, it won't be outdated in 1-2 years.

That's part of the thing with watches. They aren't used for telling time anymore. They are the kind of thing you spend a lot of money on once, and it is supposed to be timeless. (yes, I went with the pun).

The whole point of a smartphone is consolidating many devices into one. I don't understand how doing the opposite and splitting one device into two will make a compelling product.

Flawed concept....always was....always will be.

I hope Apple keeps saying they're going to release an iWatch (but never actually do) to keep the copy cats wasting their time.:D

Tim Cook on Stage:

"Next up, iWatch"

"We had an amazing launch weekend. We sold over 1 million iWatches in just the first week alone. This is incredible. People love iWatch. We made a video to show how people love our products."

"You know, here at Apple we make the best products. Our competition tried to sell a smart watch, but they only sold 50,000 models in the first months. We sold 20 times that in one week alone. This is amazing."

..........

Anyone else read this while hearing Tim's voice? lol

Funniest post I've read in a while. :D Great impersonation! I can imagine him saying lines like "This is incredible". Just too funny.

"It's a 1.0 device."

Pebble is a 1.0 device. SmartWatch is a 1.0 device. I'mWatch is a 1.0 device. Cookoo is a 1.0 device.

Given that '1.0 devices' are already out there, Samsung needed to come out with something that felt like a 2.0 device, or a 3.0 device. They certainly needed to be better than what their own EVP describes as a 1.0 device.

Such incredible disrespect for their customers. 50,000 people spent their hard-earned money on their "green tomato". Using their analogy, you WAIT until the tomato is ripe before you offer it for sale. They should have spent time and money developing a product that people wanted. Of course, Samsung is incapable of quality R&D until Apple shows them how it's done. Somehow, I think Apple's watch will be more akin to a ripe tomato than a green tomato.

Apple should put out a really cool watch that:

1: Tells time.
2: Shows who a message or call is from so you can tell if you want to bother pulling out your phone.
3: Monitors heart rate and calls 911 if there is an emergency, or transfers your run into your nike account.
4: Looks really freakin cool

Thats it.

and they should sell it for $49.

Any idiot who actually looks at how people expect their devices to work could see that this smart watch was a dud.

I'm not saying the Gear is a good buy, just that Apple will probably be charging a lot for their watch too and we all know it will sell.

If the demand for these "smart"watches was really that high, people would buy these no matter what, but nobody did so final conclusion

nobody wants a smart watch.

Samsung's watch has had really bad press. From my point of view I do not like watches. If the rumored iWatch costs $1.00 I still will not buy one. It might be a great product (the Apple one, not the Samsung one) but I do not like watches, rings or necklaces. Maybe other people feel the way I do.

Can we finally put this smart watch thing to bed. People don't want to pay $300+ for a smartphone accessory. And certainly not one that bulky and ugly.

The problem I see is that hardly anyone understands what Apple is going to be doing here, or they are so close-minded that they don't understand the real potential, and numerous applications for this.

First of all you don't think of it as a watch. That's the number one close-minded thought I see everyone make. This will be a wearable device, and telling you the current time will be of as little meaning in the overall picture as it is on the iPhone. They aren't making a watch. They are making a wearable device, and what Samsung, and apparently nearly everyone else doesn't understand is that a wearable device offers you one majorly important thing: it is almost constantly attached to your body. Biometrics are the #1 reason to make a wearable product. Everything else is merely there because it would obviously be included, like a calculator on your iPhone. If this product Apple is making can accurately measure vital biometrics (non-invasively of course), it could be extremely important, and be bought by millions.

It could save the lives of diabetics (if it accurately measured blood glucose, warning the wearer when they are getting dangerously low so as to avoid fainting, etc.), it could save the lives of anyone (if it accurately measured heart rate), being that it is constantly monitoring, and could instantly send alerts to family members/emergency services when wearer goes into cardiac arrest. Things like these are going to be the future, and they will transform people's lives much like past inventions have, and they will save lives too. I'm not saying this will be soon, but it will come about.

The reason to make this is biometrics. Granted getting alerts and seeing the time on your wrist would be a useful thing to have, it is no where near worth making a product for, so those of you who find the thought of devices like the Galaxy Gear useless, you are right, those few features aren't worth having the product. Will Apple's do alerts/messages etc.? Of course it will, but that isn't why the product exists. Luckily Apple has open-minded, inventive people working for them.
