A "smart watch" is about as cool as clipping your phone to your belt.

A former colleague used to roll in the office with his BB clipped on one side and his iPhone clipped on the other (large phone cases, I might add). When he mentioned that he purchased an iPad, I asked him if he planned to clip that to his belt as well...

Unripe is the iPhone 2G or the iPad 1, which ripened into the iPhone 4+ and iPad Air.

This thing is just plain rotten, and should not have been allowed outside the R&D department.

These guys kill me. Except these days it's a massive galaxy note 3 on their belt. Also enjoy laughing at the guys that look like they have a patio paver in their front pocket. It's rigoddamndiculous in every possible way.

Seems like they're going to cling onto hope for this one, much like Microsoft and the Surface.

These companies are just making Apple look better.

Lol at Samsung CEO's "we get no respect" speech, though. /facepalm

When Apple finally release their iWatch (if there is one) then it will become obvious why Samsung's strategy of copying Apple was deployed in the first place.

I wear high end watches (patek, ap etc).

I don't want any watch from Samsung

what a BS excuse for crappy sales...when iphone 1.0 came out, it was resounding hit, because it was a great product. it wasn't an "unripe tomato"

poor samsung :(

One can suppose.....

that entering first in a niche market, a company can develop an edge. Or even have one. In this case, seems like the expectations from Samsung are coming short.....Giving an advantage to Apple, what now knows for sure what things to improve and make a more successful product....

Seems like 2014 already are becoming more interesting.....:D

:):apple:

Doesn't surprise me much.

After the resounding success that many of their phones and . . . . . some of their tablets have been, the GG was just uninspiring.

It really didn't do anything save for keep my phone in my pocket, and check updates and what not through the watch. Cute, but not worth $300 and a Note 3 or GS4 to run it.

Now, if Apple makes a watch competitor for the GG, and doesn't simply copy off of Samsung or some other flops, and claim that it's "revolutionary" because it has some junk no one asked for, I might just go back to the iPhone . . . after they make the screen a bit larger.

Translation of this Samsung EVP guy's comment: We heard about the iWatch and rushed out the Gear so we could be the first to release a smartwatch. It's not selling well because we have to wait until Apple releases theres and perfects this product, and then we will copycat it.

Samsung needs Apple to do the base R&D on the product category.

Exactly. Its very easy for any company to make a laptop now a days, all the questions has already been answered through so many years of iterations. But its extremely difficult to make a new product category, you need to solve every questions about it, battery life, services, price, features etc. And any factor not tuned well could be a disaster.
Look at Google Glass, its hyper advanced tech, but if batteries wont last more than a few hours as in the current situation, it will potentially break the whole product.
And if suppose Google made it big, then it becomes very easy for companies like Samsung to copy it fast adding 1-2 new features and calling them way better.

They should have waited until Apple came out with theirs so Samsung could copy the good version... originality ISN'T their strong suit.

I'm surprised they got that high to begin with.

Yeah. I'm not a big Samsung fan, far from it. But I'll admit that even 50,000 is quite a bit sold in just a couple of months. Now… since the article concludes that the reviews were generally negative, I'd love to see statistics on how many of those 50,000 had already been returned. I'm sure it's an impressive number! :D

I hope Apple proves me wrong but WTF a watch? Really? Information on a wrist seems so 1990s. It's a better place for jewelry, or a Rolex, not LAN access.

It is important to note that the pocket watch existed long before the wrist watch. The latter, despite being much less accurate (at least until the development of quartz crystal technology), eventually took off when people realized how convenient it was to look at their wrist verses pulling something out of their pocket.

Flawed concept....always was....always will be.

I hope Apple keeps saying they're going to release an iWatch (but never actually do) to keep the copy cats wasting their time.:D

Like Google glasses.
corrective-lenses-statistics/

when 11% spend $7b not to wear glasses.
64% already wear glasses that won't work with their product.
Leaving 24.9% who are happy they don't glasses.
leaving just 0.1% dodgy and wannabe stars as the product market.

Not if 50,000 sales doesn't cover the cost of development/production/marketing. Which it almost certainly doesn't.

Here in India there was an offer... It was given away highly discounted with the purchase of a note 3... It was a package deal of sorts... If you remove the cost of the note 3 from the package the gear was kinda sold at half the price...
