Samsung's Galaxy Gear has not been selling well, according to a new report from BusinessKorea. First launched in September, the $299 smart watch has been purchased less than 50,000 times and has received largely negative reviews.

With daily sales reaching just 800 to 900 units, Galaxy Gear sales are falling below initial industry expectation, despite an aggressive marketing campaign from Samsung.

During Business Insider's Ignition conference in NYC, Samsung EVP David Eun spoke about the Galaxy Gear smart watch, lauding the company for being first to market and promising great things in the future. He compared the Galaxy Gear to a green tomato that would ripen over time. While Samsung is the first major electronics company to come out with a smart watch aside from Sony, other tech companies, like Apple and Google, are also working on developing their own smart watch products which could compete with future offerings from Samsung.

Apple's iWatch is said to incorporate several health-monitoring functionalities, along with a full version of iOS. Recent rumors have indicated that it could come in multiple sizes, combating the bulkiness issue that plagued the Galaxy Gear.

Though Samsung's Galaxy Gear product is already on the market, Apple has reportedly opted to hold off on releasing its iWatch as the company works to solve battery life issues. The Galaxy Gear launched with a single day battery life, but Apple is aiming for a battery life of at least four to five days.

Apple is supposedly preparing to launch its iWatch in late 2014, and began filing trademarks for the product earlier this year. The company is also said to be focusing most of its resources on wearables, delaying its ongoing television plans.

Hahahahaha

Wow that version 1.0 tomato thing comes off as weak and victim mentality. Did Apple need to say those things with iPod, iPhone, iPad etc? They sure improved over time, but the release version was ready for prime time. Version 1.0 should be ready for prime time - its not a beta we are talking about.

And it makes it sound like Samsung pioneered the category, was first to market. They werent (as the article points out). I think Sony were up to their second gen version before Samsung did this one.

Does this mean that Samsung is changing its logo to a tomato? Maybe with a bite taken out of it?

Samsung's trying to shed their image of copying. You can't blame them for wanting to get there first even if the product is a little half-baked.

It's a massive nearly worthless hunk of metal and plastic. Their rush to be first to market will cost them.

Biggest pile of bull I never heard!

First, right, after Sony, Pebble, Garmin, and perhaps some other little things made by Casio.

And new tech being an unripe tomato, puhleez.
iPad sold 15 million its first year, completely new concept. 2 years later its more then 150 million. Even if the Galaxy Bull Gear jumps that much in 2 years, it's 500,000, still boarder line failure.

Everyone knows its a flop.

Poor Samsung...that's what they get for not waiting for Apple to release theirs first so they could copy all the cool features that Apple will come up with.

Samsung, don't mess with the business model that has brought you success.

They made a fundamental mistake of making it look like a watch. Samsung, or Apple, or another other tech brands, cannot compete against Rolex and IWC and Swatch etc, at least in the short term.

Apple is working on a "wearable device" - but it may not be a watch. I think they will have better luck if it looks something like a Nike fuel band (but with display) that people can wear on the right wrist while they can still show off their Rolex on the left one..

50,000 is better than none.

I kind of think that 50,000 is actually not much different than none. Samsung sold 200 million smart phones in 2012 yet they only sold 50,000 watches? That's makes these things rarer than, well, anything! 50,000 units means that you will probably NEVER see one in the wild.

The more you look at these numbers the more you realize how CATASTROPHICALLY bad they are.

I have never weared a watch to this day given my wrists are too tiny. This smart watch crap is not going to change anything. My thoughts are its going to be a gimmick like 3D TV and another miss, as for the Apple TV that may have a better hope of generating revenue given people are looking for smart tvs, it will also open the door for android smart tv sets.

If Apple sells the same product people would be making lines to buy it.

Lmao good observation.

Geez Louise. Did this Samsung flack think there was a big market for an expensive big ugly hunk of Android with a strap? He flatters himself saying it's a 1.0 product. It's not even a .25 product, as in I would't buy it for a $.25.

I assume if Apple releases a similar product it will have a little more style to it and be something people might actually consider even if they haven't worn a conventional watch for years or ever.

Maybe it's because I'm swiss or just a matter of taste, but I don't see me wear some computer watch which I'll have to upgrade every two years or so. It just doesn't compare to a beautiful automatic watch which one can wear for years

Sure... a little more than $299 if you want a bit of quality, but still cheaper than an iPhone 5C. ...and lasting much longer as well, I guess :)

Hey, what watch is that.... looks kinda cool. Got a link?

Edit: Found it... here...

What is a smart watch supposed to do that a smartphone can't, or is it just a complementary object? I don't really get the point of these things

They should've waited for Apple to show them how it's done, and then rip off them, it's always worked for them in the past.

They should design a Smart Watch without any wrist band. Then you could use both hands on the touch-screen.

A strapless watch is easier to carry it in your pocket, girl-purse, or satchel.

Easier to aim and take pictures.

Of course if you want to improve on a product, then add a digital clock.

(Maybe there is no Apple watch- it was a cruel disinformation trick....)

Apple doesn't make and sell crap like this. You'll see this when they release their actually cool and useful product which will then prompt Samsung to instantly reverse engineer and copy. But in other news, apparently there are 50,000 people that never experience sweet relations with the opposite sex wearing this Samsung watch.
