The price is still way to high for what it does. I think samsung should sell them for $99 with a Galaxy note 3 purchase.

Samsung doesn't care if it sells 50k units or just one. The purpose of this product is to ensure that they won't be sued anymore if Apple will release an iWatch later, since the court won't likely distinguish between "lame smartwatch" and "great new modern smartwatch like Apple's (or others')". Of course if consumers like it then it's an added bonus. Anyway the poor sales won't hurt them much.

Tim Cook on Stage:

"Next up, iWatch"

"We had an amazing launch weekend. We sold over 1 million iWatches in just the first week alone. This is incredible. People love iWatch. We made a video to show how people love our products."

"You know, here at Apple we make the best products. Our competition tried to sell a smart watch, but they only sold 50,000 models in the first months. We sold 20 times that in one week alone. This is amazing."

..........

lol. i can already hear his voice.

It would be funny if internally Apple had no intention of creating a watch at all, and merely leaked this info for the sake of watching competitors releasing terrible products as a pro-active measure.

The watch made no damn sense. Why would you pay $300-400 on the Note 3, just to spend an additional $300 to not have to look at it? So dumb.

Lol. What a perfectly juicy method of corporate sabotage! Only Apple could really pull it off.

I really wonder if Apple will actually do a watch. If they do, they would no doubt do it right. But time and again, smart watches have failed, regardless of the implementation or features or design.

Watches are not standard issue for every single person like they used to be. Apple knows this. It's one thing to reinvent something everyone needs and uses, like a cell phone. It's another thing to take a big chance on getting people to restart using something they have more or less forgotten about.

Apple's not about to stick a touch screen on a butter churn. Not sure they're gonna do it with a watch.

Those hating on Samsung better watch as the Iwatch meets the same fate. You can do everything you can with a watch by using a smartphone in your pocket. I got an iPod nano 6th gen to use as a pedometer and music smart watch, so when I run I don't carry anything else. That's about the most these things can do.

Same could be said for Smartphones as well as numerous other pieces of tech.
We survived a long time without them. They are wants not needs.

Don't be silly. Just because something is a recent development does not make it unnecessary.

The wheel started as a toy. Fire was an accident first, then a magic trick. Let's see you do without either.

There are millions of people for whom a smartphone has become an utter necessity.

I doubt they are working on a watch, or even a smartwatch. Not exactly.

But do think they saw the potential two years ago when this happened.

I think that Apple should "leak" another Red Herring… the fabled iPen. It's a pen. It's a digital stylus. It's a vibrating sex toy! It's a TV remote control. It's a magic wand! Whatever the hell it is, it will be an Insanely Great iProduct, and millions will sell!

Then comes Samsung's knee-jerk reaction to the leak: "OMG OMG OMG! Apple is underway in development of this incredible-sounding iPen! Engineers, get to work and create us the SamPen ASAP! We must release our SamPen before Apple has a chance to release their iPen! Quick quick! Hurry hurry, rush job, rush job!"

awww, am suppose to be sad:(

lets spell it properly for you " YOU CANT INNOVATE A FULL PRODUCT" stay in your lane and copy :D

To me, this was a test run, APPLE - "let see what they will think of when we give them something like this.... apple customers always come up with wonderful ideas using our products "

Nonsense, a patent is enough. Samsung could still get sued if they used technology patented by someone else, even if they were first to market.

Except Apple will sell at least that many, launch day of their iWhatever.

Lol.
I'm no Apple fan or anything.... but I def got odds they sell more than 800 per day, whenever they do come out with a watch product. =P

Whichever, this is the actual problem. This is why it is a failure at this time.

WRONG!
Sorry, Mr. Samsung apologist.... but if you think that had Samsung announced compatibility with 80% of their models.. on their brand-new, virtually useless, $300 smart watch.... they somehow would have sold millions, instead of thousands.... well- I have a giggle for you.

I understand the idea behind the Gear but I believe it was poorly executed. If it were slimmer, had a headset jack, cheaper, and could last 4-5 days it could be a better contender.

In an ideal world the Gear would outlive it's symbiotic phones by several generations.

I think there's going to be limited sales when Apple puts their iWatch out too.

By limited do you mean "only a few hundred thousand per month at 1st"... Or do you mean "800 per day, WORLDWIDE"? One of those sounds like a modest ramp up of a popular new product, the other sounds like an EPIC fail.
