Pretty funny considering the Note 9 still can't outperform the year old iPhone X. And yes, nobody wants a stylus for a phone. Samsung should focus more on their failing sales than Apple.

Failing sales as number 1? Lol

In my mind, if I’m half paying attention to the tv, or am in a public location where the tv is muted, all I see is Apple products. I would have ZERO clue this is a negative ad produced by Samsung bashing Apple.

So in a lot of cases, I could easily see how this could be “free advertisement” for Apple.

That's why these ads are created for a targeted channel: YouTube.

It's clearly not intended for TV or a train station.

Anyone remember when android phones used to crush iPhone benchmarks? No one cared then lol it was all about performance and optimization. Now is
It's all the sites cling too. I suppose it adds to the herd mentality. All I know is in real world speed test the iPhone X loses to the S9 and Note 8.

no one remembers that, cause it didn't happen. Sometimes the android phone released in Marchish compared to a year old phone would be slightly better in benchmarks, but would soon be blown away by the September release of the iPhone. Now iPhone keeps beating.

"You can FaceTime with up to 32 people at once."
"Why would I ever want to do that?"
...
"The Apple Pencil only works on the iPad."
"Okay, so what can I use on my Phone?"

WUT? They call FaceTime useless but then talk about wanting to use a stylus on their phone? I would argue the S-Pen is less useful than >2 people FaceTime. This is coming from someone who has a Note 8 as a second phone.

Something that I haven't heard expressed is that, as an Apple user, one of the reasons these ads are so nauseating is that I actually used to respect Samsung for what they produced. Then their phones exploded. Then they bounced back with some awesome products. Then these ads came... I want to respect them, but this silliness makes it REALLY hard.

No, it paints the Apple Store clerk as an idiot. The customer is portrayed as knowledgeable. Did you actually watch the video?
The customer that is using a Samsung product... It seems like you are one of very few who see this as a good ad for Samsung when it literally advertises their direct competitor for free... And not just their phones. These ads have had Macbooks, HomePods, and AirPods all visible..

This ad is a standard upward attack strategy used by anybody who has studied marketing or has earned an MBA.

Pepsi has used this strategy against Coke countless times.

Once again, Marketing 101.

The group FaceTime part is pretty darn weak in my opinion. If your only counter to it is "Why would I want to do that?", why even bring it up in the first place? All you've done is state a feature the competition has that you don't.

Agreed. I'd have the same response to the statement about being able to use a stylus with the Note.

To be an Apple-centric site, these place sure does feature a lot of Samsung content. Yikes.

Nothing wrong with that and Macrumors has been doing this for while now. I like this method of reporting competitor news on Apple site, because I can gain much of my tech news on one website. Not everything has to be Apple’ related on this website, diversity is good.

Samsung's premium phones which are the ones that compete directly with the iPhone have not been selling anywhere near the numbers that older models did. The premium phone is where the profit is made.
Just comparing shipments is not a good use of statistics when the market is as fragmented as it is.

That said, the days of a 'must have' feature on a new smartphone have passed

I agree, Samsung shouldn't have gone there. EXCEPT, most people have/use whatsapp and there is a very small chance that you would have a 32 person meeting, except if your company only uses iphones. This is Apple's greatest downfall with imessages and it's plateform. Yes you can use animojies, but so many people have dumped iOS, not have cross functionality kills it's use. Apple was whatsapp greatest ally!

I was just at a social event, and everyone was like, let's start a whatsapp group! second time this has happened. With the majority of the world (except USA and Japan) using whatsapp, Apple really shot them selves in the foot.

So while up to 32 functionality is cool, ability to use it in real world settings diminishes with the world wide proliferation of Whatsapp.
