I doubt the public cares. If you are an android user, just get a replacement.

The ones that care the most are apple fans making fun out of it.

You realize the effected units are no longer being shipped? and the replacements are fixed ?

FYI the public got over antennagate jsut fine, and that flaw was never fixed.

"Antennagate" was just a minor reception issue only some even noticed. What's going on with Samsung is a phone you keep on your body and with you most of the day catching fire and blowing up. Not comparable. Doesn't even matter it's only a small percentage; you shouldn't trust something you keep in your pocket, hands, and face that has a track record of blowing up.

The iPhone 4 point was that it did not put the customers off, even with a fault cause they wanted an iPhone. Not comparing the fault v note 7.

There is a recall of the note 7, and the replacement units are fine.

If you are owner of the first batch , don't use it, and return it.

And anything with a battery can explode, Google "iPod, iPad or iPhone explodes" you will see stories. Sorry mate, while the risk is very low, it exists....

If this was 1 out of every 10, I would be more concerned. We have a better chance getting into a car accident or being pick pocketed than if this 42,000-1 longshot occurs. Isolated incidents doesn't represent generalization.

The real question is, did this damage Samsung's reputation for good? Remember, Sony dealt with this battery recall and never truly recovered from it. Going to be a very interesting six months. From Project Zero to hero back to zero to hero? Reminds me of the Golden State Warriors. LeBron went from villain to hero in one series. Warriors became villains after one summer signing KD.

Samsung has a damaged reputation. Helps sales for iPhone 7. Okay, but what if Project Valley is mind blowing by the time it is announced at MWC in six months? Back to hero again? I think foldable displays will change the game for tablets and wearables forever. Don't count out Samsung just yet. People are fickle. Samsung can recover from this. They are down but NOT out yet. And if they can't recover, a Nokian comeback in 2017! ;)

Damaged reputation now but damaged forever? Nah! Note7 recall will become a footNote7 in history. This is why you can never be too excited being a prisoner of the moment with a Note7 and iPhone 7 when we already know a newly designed iPhone 8 and Samsung's Project Valley is coming...

Is it the fast charging or the battery that is the problem?
I think so, because the Lithium battery chemistry for the most part has not changed, but the current required to fast charge has gone up considerably, which causes the battery to go through heavier thermal cycling. And Lithium is unstable, especially at elevated temperatures inside the battery during a charge cycle.

thats what happens when you try to beat the iPhone

That's what happens when you try to beat the iPhone on a budget and have to get the batteries from the 'Long Duck Wong Sushi, Noodle, and Battery Company' in a back alley in Gapyeong South Korea.

But there has to be contamination or something in the control circuitry to spark the thermal runaway to, well, runaway...

Remember this + (Yes we have a headphone jack)

Yeah you don't see Apple joking about an exploding Note 7 do you?
Karma!

In case no one has mentioned it yet, that was NOT an ad from Samsung. It was from some internet jokester.

In fact, the original version didn't even have the Samsung wording at the bottom. Someone else stuck that on later.
