I suspect that if, or when, Apple rolls out a folding phone you'll not be saying its a display on a hinge but exclaiming the virtuals of a foldable phone. Because its Samsung and not Apple, many people here seem to have an issue

Apple have released lots of products that have had both minor and major issues. Nobody was silent about any of that. In fact since the demise of the Fold, people have been speaking about all of Apples failures, as if they are some kind of justification for Samsungs more recent issue.

If Apple go ahead and release a product that is as fundamentally flawed as the Fold is, people will be complaining loudly about that too, and they will likely never be forgiven for it, so let us not pretend that Apple get off lightly.

This is so hypocritical...

Samsung releases a 2,000 plus $ phone of which the 1,000$ is pretty much just for the folding feature, that it also doesnt have a HEADPHONE JACK (you know the absolute must have feature of 2019)!!

Everyone celebrates and justifies pricing, no headphone jack is suddenly ok, everything is rainbows and butterflies.

Said phone eventually breaks after 2 days of use and it is revealed that the damn thing has a QA standard that is laughable at best. Company decides to cancel the release until further notice with no end in sight.

Yet everyone still somehow praises the company for "innovating"... in some ridiculous way to these people innovation is releasing some crap that is far from being ready just for bragging rights...

Are you ****ing kidding me? I mean there is hypocrisy and then there is this... I cant even understand how some people have the nerve to be such hypocrites and think that no one will notice them...

I would love to be in an alternate timeline in which apple released the fold and had all these issues samsung one has. Just to witness these same people complete mental breakdown and mockery...

Hypocrites.

Completely agree.
Don’t forget the fold also had a notch .

It’s only innovation when Samsung fails at it.

Apple have no right to be smug about this Samsung setback given their own painfully drawn out and embarrassing failure to deliver a charging mat.

You want know what the difference is that you’re missing out of your post? Apple (Dan Riccio) openly admitted the Airpower wasn’t ready for the market and it _never_ shipped, where-as Samsung shipped a product that obviously was never intended to be in the hands of consumers that wasn’t ready. It’s better to not ship an unfinished product at all that will ultimately will leave a negative remark on the manufactures brand regarding as the Fold has.

Your imagination is on overdrive.
Show example of Apple smugness about Samsung Setback.

Smugness is usually attributed to Samsung.
Look at their Apple commercials after the Notes 7 fiasco.

Best line so far in this tread!!!

Very well replied.
Apple and Samsung, they both are pushing the boundaries and doing very well. But a lot of comments are just straight hypocracy. Apple or for that matter any other company, can release an unfinished product from thier rnd labs and recall it next day and later call it innovation. Imagine the stuff Microsoft has in labs rightnow, scratching thier head trying to figure out how to sell it, the way xerox didn't knew what to do with the mouse they built.

A folding display in a form factor like that requires a lot of innovation.
And so what?
The purpose is to get a workable product in the consumer's hands.
For that matter there is a lot of innovation all over the place, namely in the waste baskets of Research and Development labs across the world, for $*!# that didn't work.

Was it worth to rush and put out this ****** unfinished product just to say "we were first.." i don't think so.

Somebody at the top must be preparing a powerpoint to explain his decision but it will not be enough lol..

You talking about the Fold or the Butterfly keyboard, because so far paying customers have only been exposed to the latter?

At least they're trying to innovate, unlike Apple shoving down the same stuff down our throats for the past few years and making us pay premium.
Well , obviously they didn’t have a product of Apple to copy. They will wait for Apple next time. I think they may have learned their lesson. If this is what you call innovation, you have some lessons to learn also.

Another obvious sign of double standards.

If said product had been released by Apple, the Macrumours servers would have melted under the sheer volume of posts calling for the heads of Tim Cook and Jony Ive.

Instead, when Samsung screws up, the internet collectively shrugs and dismisses it as "at least they tried". It's almost as through they never expected said product to succeed, but just can't muster enough enthusiasm to care.

It's funny how the internet tries to portray Samsung as somehow being equal to, or even beating Apple when it comes to innovation, yet refuses to subject Samsung to anywhere near the same amount of scrutiny.

and apple did not, apple made the smartwatches mainstream. Innvoation means its something new and it somehow sloves a problem. The fold it complicates things, its trying to be both, a phone and tab

Guaranteed that Samsung are not the first to innovate with this product, Apple will have done this behind closed doors (where it belongs for now). Samsung constantly release products that are not finished (or not as good as they could be) just to appear to be the innovator.
Explain how Apple is making this behind closed doors when they won't even be the ones designing or manufacturing the display

The internet still rumbles with the quakes caused by Bendgate 5 years ago, a scandal in which a few people sat on their iPhones and bent them.

A recall like this, if it was from Apple, would still be echoing through the pipes two decades from now.

Hahaha ofcourse consumers can still buy macbooks, the fold is a cancelled product that’s what this thread is about.

Did Samsung refund you on your fold preorder?

Innovation =/= something different to anything else on the market.

This! Removing all usb-a ports and replacing with 2 USB-C ports is Apple way of innovation! Now I have to carry an USB-C dongle to connect my yubikey. DIFFERENT and brilliant. The laptop with a protruding USB-C adapter sure looks like an Alien laptop from some future age!

Or sell a 29 watt usb charger (I know they now upgraded to 30 watt) is DIFFERENT. Sorry folks. Had to finally sign up to vent my frustration. I have been using iPads for 8 years now. My iPad Air 2 still works like new. But my less than 3 weeks NEW iPad pro 2017 already has a disfunctioning home button. Not to mention every time I type on my mid 2017 Macbook pro in a meeting, people look at me and sometimes even tell me to quiet down the keyboard noise.

I don't know why they just don't use two separate screens with a fine line separating them. Those of us of old school put up with the trinitron mask for years and it didn't bother us.
