they probably won't call it PRO....more likely PLUS....and I would put my money on it having USB...I sent an email quite awhile ago to Tim about this...i think he has finally agreed...it will be a great portable device for musicians---ie. portable recording, reading music...that's for sure! :)

For the 12.9 to make any sense... it needs to run O SX (because iOS is a joke on a device like iPad).

Hopefully it becomes a test bed for phablet features ie. True multi window multi tasking maybe a stylus and some cross functional apps. Doesnt seem logical to under power osX or make the macbook air redundent, but an ipad with added functionality might just be enough to spur sales and/or give enterprise what it needs/wants.

Why? When using tablet optimized apps, Android on tablets works perfectly well. Apple just needs to be sure to modify iOS to take advantage of the extra space on the screen.

From a personal point of view - I would love if I could use the iPad Pro in a similar fashion to a Wacom tablet. Use it on the iMac for editing photos, graphics etc.

Actually, thinking about it - can the current iPad work in that way already?

Yes... but it's a really poor experience because the iPad doesn't have an active digitizer. You don't get any pressure sensitivity. Also the "small" size of the iPad Air makes it a little cramped for drawing.

iPad Pro.. starting at only $999.

Don't miss all the new accessories! $200 for a keyboard dock, $100 for a a mouse, $50 for the stylus, etc.

All the convenience of a laptop, but you'll be dead-stuck with iOS apps.

Not unlike the stupid Win RT tablets, but pricier.

iPad mini is $399

iPad Air is $499

I'm going to bet on $599 to $799 for iPad Pro

But Samsung makes *low quality*, *poorly designed* and *cheap* stuff... Their displays are *especially bad*. :D Just copied some quotes from other threads.

Yeah but I'm thinking Air 2 will still be 'just' retina, but I'm guessing Air 3 will be Retina HD So the first gen of Retina HD iPads, so I will upgrade to Air 2 but then I'm done until at least Air 4 or 5, aka the 2nd or 3rd gen of Retina HD iPads.

If that makes sense haha!

I see what you mean, but at the distance that you view the iPad, do you think they will really need to make a "retina HD" display? thats just more work for the iPad to do trying to push that many pixels on screen

Well same goes for iPhone 6+ - it's a higher PPI than the 5S and 6.

Whilst there's the whole "You can't see the pixels on a Retina display" thing, the reports are that side by side the higher PPI of the 6+ does indeed make a difference, as text looks smoother etc.

Not seen it for myself but I've heard that from multiple sources, from both Android and iOS users.

Apple is losing favour in the education market because its prices are too high for schools that are always strapped for cash (and not all parents can afford to buy a tablet for each of their kids), not to mention iPads aren't tough enough when put in the hands of kids that have to carry them around all day, which only shoots replacement/maintenance costs through the roof.

We have seen so many "an iPad per student" initiatives here when the iPad first came out, it was the thing in education, but it didn't last. And part of it is Apple's own fault.

This is why ultra-cheap Chromebooks are doing so well these days in schools, yes the quality is much lower than with Apple products, but replacing a Chromebook hurts a lot less than replacing an iPad or Macbook Air.

I dunnout `bout being tough, the plastic Adrpid tablet isn't any better but the rest I agree , there dis a tablets for schools meeting in out area next week, guess who is sponsored by! SAMSUNG.. I think this will be Apples biggest mistake..once it sets the standard for schools, its then the kids and the parents that will buy them..

It will be interesting to see what the iPad Pro uses for software. Believe it or not, Microsoft has the "Pro" idea done right. It's a full featured Laptop OS without a keyboard. For the iPad to truly compete I'm thinking we need Yosemite optimized for stylus input.

Simply a larger iPad Air should not carry the name "Pro". Perhaps apple will not try to compete in this space and will simply give us an iPad Plus.

Well said

I'd like that very much but that would just further cannibalize MacBooks.

Is that what apple wants or is that the future Lou?
