This is a great comment and explanation. It's a beautiful thing when you can backup your old phone through iCloud, and simply restore it to your new phone, and within a few minutes to a few hours (depending on your backup size), and maybe a few logins, the only difference is you have a new shell of a phone with some better specs.

Apple knows that now (vs. 10 years ago) most of the general public is interested in two things - functionality and familiarity - and that's it. These devices aren't really new and exciting any more, compared to years ago anyway. Sure, increased speeds are nice, improved cameras are nice, etc. But as long as it's functional and familiar, people will stick with what they know (which is also why upgrade cycles are lengthening).

Phones are an extension of our lives (for better or [more likely] worse). People don't like change. Apple has capitalized on this better than any other manufacturer, by far. The enthusiasts that frequent these forums and others are a small minority and not a good representation of the general public.
yeah samsung has samsung cloud and Google has had Google backups for years now. you can restore your old phone to any android with your Google account or samsung account on it. and samsung has an eco system that isn't just watches tablets and laptops. it's dishwashers, dryers, washers, microwaves, refrigerators, literally any windows laptop, and even macbooks, monitors, TVs, tablets, phones, watches, galaxy books, and through samsung wallet you can even store car keys.

Nothing wrong with this ad, especially if it encourages Apple to work harder to impress with each of their own releases. Competition is good etc. I don't know why people get so "holier than thou" and dismissive whenever Samsung release a phone or make ads like this.
Apple has never been about pursuing specs for specs’ sake, and a 203,574 megapixel camera wouldn’t be better on a smartphone than a 108 megapixel camera.

Nice try Samsung, let me know when you are successful at building a phone that doesn't spontaneously combust. Last I heard Samsung models were STILL banned by the FAA. Maybe if you spent more money on engineering and less on ads going after Apple.

Swipes at Apple in their ads are annoying, but at least Samsung is trying different form factors like foldable phones while Apple is still using the same tired form factor they first used in 2007 with the original. 15yrs without a single form factor change is getting boring now.

Just seems Apple wants to stick with the tried and tested iPhone and just improve it with baby steps each year instead of trying to do something innovative for a change.

if you weren't upset about the Mac VS PC commercials, don't be upset about this either. if this is getting under your skin, you're losing.

😂 most of the people on this forum seem to be buying the next iPhone and continuing with their lives. it could be the exact same phone down to everything but the obligatory number change and yall would still spend $500 more on the next one.
It won't literally be but I'll do me and you do you :)

Yes I'm well aware of this and have experience with this as I also own/like Android. The backup/restore process on Samsung and Google still cannot touch Apple's. They both require significantly more manual work to get your device back to where it was.

Jeez…prove you’re the superior phone..by calling out the competitor by name who never mentions you. If the phone is superior, you don’t need to! And these features are amazing and very in the future bravo..but come on. It’s just pathetic.

Samsung, and all Android phone manufacturers seem to choose the small-brained tactic of BIG NUMBER = GOOD which appeals to only the most uneducated consumers. Everything is a facade with the implication that more is better, when in reality everything is of a poorer quality and done to a lower standard. It’s like someone showing off their brand new McMansion, a nice gigantic house constructed with only the finest cardboard and paper mache.
After being an early adopter of iPhone and going through all the phone growing pains until it was finally delivering on many of its most basic promises I jumped ship. In fact I went to Samsung. Apple was inflexible and overlooked some basic and obvious things users may want. When I got my Samsung, within 45 minutes I made the adjustments and no longer had to put glasses on just to look at the main screen and menus. I just came back and got the 13 pro max. I very much enjoy this phone along with its video and photo capabilities. Truthfully, Samsung is no slouch when it comes to its camera features. In some ways it does do better than iPhone.

We both may agree that more pixels doesn't always equate with better images but it does leave the camera more to work with when it does aliasing and AI to render what someone thinks is what the phone owners want. Apple too is raising the pixel power of their iPhone 14 cameras as well. Consider the greater pixel power handy for zooming in. The lenses and issues with small sensors is what holds these brilliant cameras back.

Just a few years ago, I had my 4s iPhone and left a massive flash flood area with hail that was large enough to crack my windshield at low elevations in a mountain area. When I left the mountains I drove into a large opening where the storm clouds no longer existed (somewhat like a large eye). This is from the iPhone 4s camera. I think for a snapshot its pretty good and not sure how 100 megapixels would help let along 48 (iphone14). My take is with a good lens on a real camera, 24 megapixels would have been excellent to render great prints. The image is sharper than it appears here. Maybe if I got out of the car there would be less camera shake but thats about it.

I'll simply say that none of these phone cameras are taking amazing photos but what they are doing is adding post capture modifications that are a bit of a marvel. Both Samsung and Apple do great things with imaging.

Will this be yet another Samsung commercial they will need to pull later on because they put their foot in their mouth. Free advertising for Apple though.

How many novel pictures of the moon can you take anyway? It almost always looks the same in photos… it’s more fun viewing it through a telescope. If Apple ever has such a feature I’ll use it a few times to take the best pic I can then be done with it.
Of JUST the moon? 1. It always points the same surface towards the earth, so the only thing novel that can be captured is that one shot. Now if you can capture with some clouds or trees or a plane crossing in front of it, that’d be almost infinite variability.

In a new ad, Samsung is throwing shade toward the lack of "innovation" on the iPhone while promoting features such as a 108-megapixel camera and 100x "Space Zoom" available in its latest devices.

The ad, titled "Buckle Up," is aimed toward current iPhone users and promotes the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the new Z Flip 4, and features not available to iPhone customers. "Buckle up for Apple's latest launch," the ad says. "As you enter a world where heads will turn, just none in your direction." A world where "the highest resolution in a smartphone will be in someone else's pocket. And that epic moon shot that's getting all the likes won't be yours." "This innovation is not coming soon to an iPhone near you," the 30-second ad concludes.

The ad comes just six days ahead of Apple's "Far Out" event, where it's expected to announce the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Apple is planning major new features on the Pro camera systems for its higher-end devices, including an all-new 48-megapixel camera and possible 8K video recording. Alongside camera improvements, the iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to feature an always-on display and a new pill-shape notch replacement.

Not cool behavior by Samsung. Totally unprofessional.

I agree with this for the most part. But I don’t follow the logic of iPhones compete with other iPhones because that would mean Apple has no competition. And I don’t believe that at all. You are aware Samsung had the biggest marketshare in the world last quarter.. right?

I get it we are in this Apple site and most of the community here is heavily influenced by Apple… but Samsung has a solid ecosystem and a well diverse smartphone lineup. I enjoy Apple devices just as much as I enjoy Samsung ones.
Apple has no "competition" in a sense that Apple is the only company making phones running iOS. So if you're looking a phone with iOS, your choice is basically just newer and older iphones. Meanwhile if you're looking for an Android phone, you have a plethora of OEMs to choose from. The same as macs and Windows. So in that sense, Apple is practically only competing with itself, as the only inhibiting existing iPhone users from buying newer iphones usually is that the older iphones are still good enough or cheaper. They usually won't be looking for an Android phone.

Meanwhile, an Android user might look at different Android phones from different companies when they want to upgrade.

Depends on how you look at it. :)

I find it strange that for several years android phone makers have been trying to outdo each other with many features while Google, the creator of Android operating system, has kept low profile with their own Pixel phones until just last year.

Lol, yeah.. if you put it that way.

As usual, they focus on features that aren’t very important to me. And, honestly, people don’t need 108mp sensors in phones to display images in HD. And I can’t imagine being happy with any moon picture coming from a phone camera.
This is the stereotypical response from an Apple fanboy/girl (not saying you are, but just in general) until Apple come out with that feature a few years later and then they laud it like it's the second coming of Jesus.

how exactly will they put their foot in their mouth? explain to all of us how bragging about a camera module could possibly end that way? it's already been developed and tested now it's implemented in there phones your comment makes no sense.

It‘s because marketing 1.1 is to make your product stand on its own / not give your competitors any spotlight. It‘s not mentioning your competitors product with every second sentence.
You can only really reasonable do that when you‘re the better product, which Samsung phones are not (better as in selling more, more memorable brand, better tech).

If I were in charge of Samsung marketing I‘d fire everyone of these hacks and get them to focus on making actual memorable ads that are fun because my product is fun and not because it has niche feature X my competitor doesn‘t have.
Samsung does have great ads like the „spider in love with Galaxy camera bump“, that was always fun when it came on in a cinema (people seemed to enjoy and talk about it).

Do you even understand what innovation is and how hard it is for a company to do it even once in a lifetime?

Samsung isn’t innovating, they are experimenting and charging you $1000 to beta test. They are throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Google has kept a low profile because they're not in the business of consumer electronics. Google's business is advertising.
