How many people considering a new iPhone are really gonna consider a Samsung with chintzy hardware and software design? Pixel I can understand but a Samsung, I don't even care what it does. It could shoot lasers and I wouldn't buy it.

Those moon 'photos' are interesting. But - what kind of trickery are they getting to put the details? Are they using AI to fake the details? Why can people get clear shots of the moon, but can't seem to get clear shots of things like airplanes at the same distances?

Samsung is constantly punching up.
This isn't 2010 anymore. The smartphone wars are over.

The reality is that Apple likely faces more competition from older iPhones than they do from Samsung (or any other phone manufacturer). Upgrade cycles are lengthening, and the only thing stopping people from upgrading their older iPhones is that it's still good enough for their needs.

Otherwise, I find the apple ecosystem does a good job of keeping people on Apple devices, and there really isn't much Samsung can do about this. Mainly because Apple was actually willing to invest in building up their own ecosystem right from the very start (expensive and slow as it was), while Samsung was content to partner with companies like Netflix, dropbox and Spotify and market third party services instead for a quick buck.

The end result is that there really isn't much differentiating a Samsung phone from another android phone when it's all the same filling underneath the crust. The features they are promoting seem like they are there more to check off boxes than anything else.

Nothing wrong with this ad, especially if it encourages Apple to work harder to impress with each of their own releases. Competition is good etc. I don't know why people get so "holier than thou" and dismissive whenever Samsung release a phone or make ads like this.
I love the competition....keep it up Samsung! Hopefully it pushes Apple to add astro mode, bigger optical zoom, reverse wireless charging, etc

Has Samsung ever ran an ad against an Android phone?
No, because branding wise, Samsung is already above all the other Android OEMs. Why would you spend ad money to go against brands that are already beneath you? You only aim up.

Also the reason Nothing compared itself to Apple instead of Oppo or Xiaomi, or even Huawei. No point in marketing against lower tier brands. You aim for the top brand, which is Apple.

I suspect Samsung is quite right this time. iPhone 14 is probably going to be the least exciting iPhone in years.
While being best selling ever, especially at its price points.
Let's go back to Tim Cook's own guidance. “In terms of an outlook in the aggregate, we expect revenue to accelerate in the September quarter despite seeing some pockets of softness."
That's how confident Applel is.

It has always been a dream of mine to just pull out my iPhone and snap a detailed photo of the moon on-the-fly. An iPhone with USB-C and cameras with fantastic low-light, astrophotography and 100x telephoto zoom would be an instant buy for me.
Taking any kind of astrophotography with any kind of device, be it a smartphone or a super fancy DSLR, won't be a "snap on the fly." It will take tripod and extended long shutter speed.

Unless you go Xiaomi route which simply replace the sky with a stock photo. :D

In a new ad, Samsung is throwing shade toward the lack of "innovation" on the iPhone while promoting features such as a 108-megapixel camera and 100x "Space Zoom" available in its latest devices.

The ad, titled "Buckle Up," is aimed toward current iPhone users and promotes the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the new Z Flip 4, and features not available to iPhone customers. "Buckle up for Apple's latest launch," the ad says. "As you enter a world where heads will turn, just none in your direction." A world where "the highest resolution in a smartphone will be in someone else's pocket. And that epic moon shot that's getting all the likes won't be yours." "This innovation is not coming soon to an iPhone near you," the 30-second ad concludes.

The ad comes just six days ahead of Apple's "Far Out" event, where it's expected to announce the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Apple is planning major new features on the Pro camera systems for its higher-end devices, including an all-new 48-megapixel camera and possible 8K video recording. Alongside camera improvements, the iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to feature an always-on display and a new pill-shape notch replacement.

When i think Samsung cannot go any lower, here they are, setting a new low-standard. #desperate

Galaxy S22 Ultra to me is better looking and enjoy the form factor overall. However with a MBP and a family that has iOS I am limited to Apple for now.

If they would stop with the stupid shiny stainless steel border that's a fingerprint magnet in addition to smaller bezels (rumors say that's what we are getting) I am happy.

I agree with this for the most part. But I don’t follow the logic of iPhones compete with other iPhones because that would mean Apple has no competition. And I don’t believe that at all. You are aware Samsung had the biggest marketshare in the world last quarter.. right?

I get it we are in this Apple site and most of the community here is heavily influenced by Apple… but Samsung has a solid ecosystem and a well diverse smartphone lineup. I enjoy Apple devices just as much as I enjoy Samsung ones.

Samsung's gotta spend their marketing budget. Never been inclined to try any Android device and I still have zero desire to. I'll be buying my iPhone 14 model and moving along, sorry, Samsung.
😂 most of the people on this forum seem to be buying the next iPhone and continuing with their lives. it could be the exact same phone down to everything but the obligatory number change and yall would still spend $500 more on the next one.

Samsung, and all Android phone manufacturers seem to choose the small-brained tactic of BIG NUMBER = GOOD which appeals to only the most uneducated consumers. Everything is a facade with the implication that more is better, when in reality everything is of a poorer quality and done to a lower standard. It’s like someone showing off their brand new McMansion, a nice gigantic house constructed with only the finest cardboard and paper mache.
apple users seem to be of the opinion that less is better when it's the same price. you could be offered a samsung with 12GB of ram and 1TB of storage for the same price as an iPhone 14 PRO Max with 4GB of ram but still say the iPhone is better and should be the same price bc the OS is dumbed down so it runs the same as an android. your argument is that samsung has bad photo processing so more Megapixels equals the same or worse quality but the beauty of Android phones is you can install whatever OS you want and if there's one out there that has better processing and can make use of that extra power you have the option to install it. also our phones don't routinely bootloop.

This is a great comment and explanation. It's a beautiful thing when you can backup your old phone through iCloud, and simply restore it to your new phone, and within a few minutes to a few hours (depending on your backup size), and maybe a few logins, the only difference is you have a new shell of a phone with some better specs.

Apple knows that now (vs. 10 years ago) most of the general public is interested in two things - functionality and familiarity - and that's it. These devices aren't really new and exciting any more, compared to years ago anyway. Sure, increased speeds are nice, improved cameras are nice, etc. But as long as it's functional and familiar, people will stick with what they know (which is also why upgrade cycles are lengthening).

Phones are an extension of our lives (for better or [more likely] worse). People don't like change. Apple has capitalized on this better than any other manufacturer, by far. The enthusiasts that frequent these forums and others are a small minority and not a good representation of the general public.

Its interesting that the Samsung articles get more comments than the iPhone 14 launch articles. Especially since launch is 6 days out.
