Despite some of the comments, I see a major aim of this sort of advertising as reassurance to anyone who has a Samsung phone - or is thinking of buying one.

"You'll be OK with Samsung because you still have some bragging rights even if it doesn't run IOS."

Does Samsung have facial recognition that is as effective and (seemingly) secure as Apple's?

Is Android, as implemented by Samsung, as secure as IOS?

Do Apple still purchase anything (other than OLED screens) from Samsung these days? Like RAM.

A few years ago I had a Samsung A-something work phone. Quite nice until I actually wanted to do things beyond phone calls, SMS, photos and basic emails.
What I hate the most about the as in question is actually not them calling out Apple but instead how little I know about the products shown after the ad is done.

Obviously, I know these products before watching the ad. But anyone outside tech news would have no clue.

The average consumer has no concept of what “moon shot” means or exactly why foldables are superior. And how are 108 megapixel cameras/photos necessary if most of us look at photos on portable devices?

Maybe showcase how the products innovative key areas of the smartphone experience instead of comparing to Apple?

I recall Samsung making fun of Apple when they came out with their first iphone without a port for audio jack. Only to take the exact same path a bit later. If you are going to make a mockery of Apples design decisions you gotta be consistent in your own philosophy - which they clearly are not. Samsung are decent hardware makers but I am not impressed of them just making their on skin on top of Google produced Android OS. How about you make your own software to go along with your hardware and take some risks.

The premise of Samsung's attack ads (and indeed much of the fanatic cult that spend their free time thinking about how much they hate Apple) is often that you must be getting an Apple product to "make people's head turn", like the product gets you attention and status etc. First of all, that's not reality and has barely been the case ever. People don't usually care what phone you have, you're supposed to care about what phone you have.

Well the innovation of apple is the ecosystem and how everything smoothly works together. not the camera megapixels or a fold plastic screen.

I don’t really mind them poking fun at apple. Apple did exactly the same thing against PCs back in the day. It’s not going to sway me to buy a Samsung though, iPhone 15 for me next year.

When has either company innovated and simply didn't use old technology that was already available years prior.

Here's what this add accomplishes IMO:

1. It alienates people who like their iPhones even further from the Samsung brand (nice job pushing away the most affluent segment of the market)

2. It attracts people who are fickle and running after the latest thing. Even if the campaign works for these people, it'll be a tough segment to try and tie to your brand, because they'll go for whatever is the next shiniest thing.

In short, Samsung's gotta Samsung.

I thought the advert was funny and well-timed. Samsung does innovate on hardware and they are right to point out the camera sensor differences and, well, the Fold is in a class of its own. Apple is rumoured to just play catch-up (48MP camera) and a fairly inconsequential change (pill on the front) to their usual slab-of-screen with a Lightning port (USB-C next year everyone!) .

However anyone who's used a Samsung knows the software is garbage (compared to iOS and the rest of the Android world). They tried ads in various standard apps and most of their built-in apps are poor copies of Google apps (Bixby 🤣). That's before we even get to needing to use the Galaxy Store to update some Samsung apps, the Google Play Store to update everything else, and, oh, Meta (Facebook) services pre-installed so Meta (Facebook) can stealth-update their apps directly outside of Google Play. Which is horrifying.

So even though Apple lags on certain hardware Samsung craters their experience with their software. So an iPhone (or, indeed, a Pixel) is overall way, way better.

Grab a Fold4, open the photo app, point the camera somewhere, try to zoom in and you will understand what piece of crappy technology you have in your hands.

Why are people getting so upset/angry/offended/triggered by this advert? It’s so bizarre. Just take it for the humorous advert that it is, or if you don't enjoy it stop watching it and move on.

To spell out my own position, I’ve been a Mac user for decades (I’ve owned PCs also), I was getting every iPod upgrade released since Gen 3 up until the iPod touch. I owned every iPhone from the first one at launch up to the 6S Plus, I then didn’t upgrade for a few years because I felt innovation and upgrades were stagnating, I waited for the X launch before upgrading that phone. I loved the X, it lasted me a good few years, but again no innovation from Apple. I switched to a OnePlus 8 Pro, which at the time was lightyears ahead of the Apple offerings hardware wise. Even today it’s still a lovely phone, but I didn’t get on with Android at all, it was mainly buggy and unreliable, so I switched back to Apple with the 13 Pro Max and I’ll be with Apple moving forward, just unlikely to upgrade as often as those initial years. I'm deep into the Apple ecosystem in that I've got iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, AirPods etc, so I'm going nowhere. I've also owned a couple of Samsung TVs and the build quality and software offerings are shockingly poor, the OS is so slow and unresponsive and riddled with adverts and crap I can’t disable it’s untrue, so I’m firmly in the LG OLED camp now and won’t be buying another Samsung TV again.

So with that all said, with my commitment to the Apple ecosystem and products moving forwards spelt out, I’m still just a customer, I’m still just a revenue stream for the company, and they are still just a corporate entity. I owe them nothing, they owe me nothing. They have no feelings to hurt, they aren’t a person or a loved one, they are just a business, a competitor to the likes of Samsung. So, if Samsung want to go ahead and make an advert like this then why should I take offence to it? Why would you take comments about a product you own so personally? Your behaviour and reactions to the adverts are exactly the same mindset as what most of you are pointing the finger at Samsung for. “They’re just making Samsung owners feel better about their phones”. You’re doing the exact same about your own purchases/phones by reacting so negatively, you're getting so hurt by the comments and defending your own product to justify and validate your purchase. Like any of it matters, if you enjoy the product and get what you need out of it, then that's all that matters. Outside opinion plays no part.

You’re also all forgetting the Mac vs PC adverts which were exactly this same line of humour, but because it was on your side you didn’t care (or likely half of you are too young, or weren't on board with Apple until the iPhone and have no clue). Advertising and marketing has always been about selling your product by promoting it’s USPs and stating what makes it a better purchase over other products, it’s normally done in a less obvious manner, but it all boils down to the same thing at the end of the day.

Just chill guys, stop trying to stick up for Apple like he’s your younger brother in a playground fight with Samsung the bully kid, stop acting like Apple is your best friend, they’re company, you’re a customer, they give you a product in exchange for a lot of money. That’s where your relationship both starts and ends, they don’t care about you, they’re a business, you’re a tiny number in one of their spreadsheets somewhere.

Apple product experience has been declining for years. I’d they’re investing in it the money is clearly not being well spent.

Declining in what way? iPhones are great, getting better each year. They don't do flipy-flopy stuff, gimmicks and whatnot, but they offer the best package on the market. They are still unmached in performance, security, ecosystem, and overall quality.

I have to admit, that is such a great advert. They could'nt have made it more American (hell ye) if they tried lol

Always attack the one with the ball.

Apple doesn’t have the ball, Samsung has.

Apple sells outdated phones and copy Android phones and sell it as “amazing new feature”.

Apple are just a bunch of copycats now, something they have accused and even sued Samsung for. Can’t make this **** up.

From the company that has literally copied EVERYTHING the iPhone has ever done...

Apple spoon feeds its users if and when they make a foldable a lot of people here will say Apple is innovating Samsung throws everything at the wall to see what will stick.
