So now when I sell my iPhone in order to buy the new one I’ll just keep the brick for myself.

Good. Less waste, no need to get another charger with every phone. I’m all for Samesung copying Apple this time. If you still don’t have a USB-C charger, they’re only $9.99, pick one up, totally worth it.

I really do not understand the controversy. The earbuds, USB cable, and charger never left the boxes of my last three iPhones. This is e-waste in a time when there are so many better alternatives and so little use of these accessories by consumers. I’m sure both Apple and Samsung have done their homework. Good on them. Stop shipping things that never get used.

To save production cost or increase their profits?

These are the same thing - they're going to reduce the cost to produce each unit by not having to make as many chargers while understanding that demand for high end smartphones is relatively price-inelastic so they can sell the same number of units for the same price even without including the charger.

What's next...MacBooks without power adapters? Ridiculous. Yes, many of us already have power adapters, but to sell products without a critical component such as a charger being included is absurd.

Oh, you wanted SEATS and a STEERING WHEEL in your new car? You'll have to purchase those separately! Don't you have seats from your last car you can use? WTF.
You know, some of my friends joked around about making tires optional on new cars since they are junk that lasts under 30,000 miles. 😨

A better comparison would be when you buy a house, they don’t force you to buy the furniture that’s already there. You’ve probably got your own already.

you can certainly ask to buy the furniture because maybe you don’t have some thingS or wanna get rid of your old stuff. Whatever. But now it’s a choice.

it is extremely extremely wasteful to continue down the path of including this for everyone when many people are perfectly content using what they’ve already acquired several times over.

Thank God. It’s about time they stopped this. Not only is a good for their profits, but it’s also good for the planet. I must have 100 charging blocks laying around. Now, if they would just ditch Lightning in favor of USB-C (or Thunderbolt) as they have done with the MacBook and iPad, that would be amazing. To be able to charge all of my devices with one type of cable would make traveling so much easier.

You could always sell those extra charging blocks on eBay....

Would your perspective change if iPhone prices were lower as a result? A 128gb iPhone 12 is rumored at $649. The equivalent iPhone 11 is $749. As long as this doesn’t turn into a money grab by Apple, I completely applaud them. I probably have 10 iPhone/iPad chargers lying around my house. E-waste is real.

At least we won't have to see the 500 "BUT WAS IT A THIRD PARTY CHARGER?" comments on the next smartphone catches fire article

Hilarious the complaints about this. I don’t regularly buy phones but I have a dozen 5w chargers and maybe half a dozen chargers for iPads. I don’t know where they’ve all come from... I don’t even use an Apple charge block because of wireless charging anymore. This really is a non-issue. As much as some folks may complain or claim they won’t buy another phone as a result, it will have MINIMAL effect on sales. No one will really care in the end. But... it’s fun to cry about something.

A larger concern I think should be talked about are the fire/safety hazards of the general public buying $3 China chargers as a result of not having a readily available, quality brick from Apple 😒. That could be a problem... but still not necessarily Apple’s problem.

Please don't give Apple any ideas with the rumored Apple Car. Lol.
