It's important to note, that yes, while the shape is nothing unique, or the colour, it certainly didn't have to all be like that and most certainly didn't need to imitate the dress code Apple set for the party.

Wanna get more options? Go for PC. Period.

And be bogged with viruses, spyware, malware and worse memory optimization than even OS X Lion? What makes you think I haven't heard your response before?

Whats it to you that I'm pushing for Apple to give YOU and everyone else options? You do understand the word 'options' right? Its not enforced..... unlike apple....

That's a lie. I never had any Virus, Spyware, Malware, or any other problems. And I hardly scan my computer. I only had a few viruses when I was a kid and knew nothing about computers. Back in the XP days.

I think the "virus, spyware and blue screen" reality is something most PC users simply don't recognise. To be honest, I think I only hear that description from my Mac friends mocking PCs. I haven't owned a PC since 2005 and can't say I have first hand experience but as I use a PC at work everyday I still think I'm entitled to an opinion.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A405)

Do we need a spec fight? Okay, credit due if Samsung beat Apple by a few months. However, have they developed a dedicated OS, application ecosystem, effective protocols to run their kit? No.

Unfortunately, we've gone past "i have a better spec product than you" days tp gain sales.

It will sell marginally in comarison to the iPad 3 when it arrives. Better get in there quick Samsung!

Im getting really tired however of apple getting a free pass everytime they release a crippled product by their own inability to provide their customers at least SOME options. How long did it take Apple to incorporate an SD slot into the macbook pros and iMacs? Why isnt there a broader choice of DECENT and CURRENT video cards at a reasonable price? Why are iPod, iPhone and iPad users restricted and forced to use iTunes? Why isnt there greater support for other video formats right out of the box? Why is there no microSD slot or removable battery on any iPhone? Why does iPhone not give some customization of the UI and system preferences, like, i dont know, a different keyboard?!

Or am I the ONLY one who enjoys having options?

I enjoy having options, so am sometimes frustrated like you at Apple restrictions.

But I also enjoy not being forced to make choices, so am often frustrated by Android devices which IMO still require too much tinkering for my taste.

A middle ground would be nice. I think perhaps, Android is more likely to eventually nail the UX before Apple is likely to open itself up. But lets see

Interesting.

No one on this forum manned up to say that when Apple ripped off RIM's BBM, Google's Cloud and Android's notifications during Steve Jobs' keynote presentation...

Umm...actually i said it in the keynote thread. iOS 5 incorporated stuff from pretty much every existing mobile platform out there...except maybe Symbian.

Apple or whoever i will call them out. I'm not the blind fanboy you're trying to paint me out to be.

This news is a whoopti-doo moment.

The resolution is secondary to overall function. How does the Samsung function and what does it do? 2550x1600 is good as a monitor, but shoved into 11" of screen it becomes spec-fluff.

Yes. Samsung invented its own display technology. Embedding 2560 x 1440 resolution into 10" display.

But let's be honest here. Did anyone ever have the slightest idea to use larger than 300 PPI display before Apple began it with iPhone and iPod Touch? Was there any manufacturers really care about PPI numbers on a smartphone display just before iPhone 4? Or even a slightest thought of using IPS display just to have a great viewing angle (although as we know we have IPS display technology for quite a long time) ... again, before iPhone 4?

Has it ever come to some of Samsung's engineer that it is IMPORTANT to also count display PPI and not just resolution? A 50" 1080p HDTV is not great anymore once you count PPI number on it.

Again, Apple may not invent this "retina display" technology, but, Apple thought about it, implemented it into iPhone, and as usual Samsung just thought .. "Oh, that's a great idea, how about we use it on our own tablet?"

Wow! At last!

Someone is coming out with an 11"+ screen!

Finally, I'll be able to comfortably read magazines on Zinio and full-size PDFs.

I was hoping it would be Apple, but Samsung is fine, too. I'll be first in line for this thing :) iOS is a bit more elegant and I like the 16x9 screen ratio of my iPad better, but I really want my magazines and full-size 8.5"x11" PDFs to be readable on a tablet. For that, I'll live with Android (well, I have switched to Android Nexus S, but was thinking of going back to iOS when the 4" iPhone is out).

9.7" is kind of a stupid size, at least if you want to go after the magazine and business markets. I understand that there were some size-limitations and cost concerns early on, but not going to 11" for the next iPad is a mistake, IMO, particularly if Apple comes out with a 7" version of the iPad.

Samsung S8000. 300 PPI, Released in 2009. A year before iPhone 4

Sharp 930SH. 327 PPI. Released in 2008.

Toshiba Portege G900. 313 PPI. Released in 2007.

Actually Googles Nexus had a "retina" display before Apple even coined the term .. so yes, lots of people have thought of it before (or at similar times) as Apple engineers did.

I have to stop reading those comments .. both sides of the Apple / Samsung copy/lawsuit fight make me sick. Apple makes great products. Samsung makes (some) good products .. No matter who wins that damn fight in court, there is only one winner, which is those damn lawyers and one loser, which is us customers, no matter which side of the fence you stand. There is nothing in it for you.

T.

This would be in Samsungs best interest and is a reason Apple is so successful. They have a model of iPad per year (so far) and although its SSD size change (and 3G vs non-3G) its essentially the same piece of hardware that performs consistently.

Definitely. Samsung are going to end up competing with themselves at this rate :p

The whole point of a "retina display" is that beyond a certain point human eyes aren't able to distinguish any higher resolutions. (At typical viewing distances.)

Erm sorry? In what way did Apple rip off Google's Cloud?

Apple was even running a webmail service years before Gmail. (dotMac)

As for BBM, it was ripping off all instant messaging clients that came before it.

Check out AppleLink, Apple's online service launched in 1985 while you're at it.

That image has been debunked several times already on these boards. Posting it just makes you come across as uneducated.

Apple is at the Top now a days ,and it covers all markets of world,It is very difficult and a big challenge for SAMSUNG to compete APPLE.But the one thing that APPLE is not good is the high prices of its products.

Yes, they have. It's called bada. It's an OS that Samsung made.

Bada is not an OS.

"Bada, as Samsung defines it, is not an operating system itself, but a platform with a kernel configurable architecture, which allows using either a proprietary real-time operating system (RTOS) kernel, or the Linux kernel.[6] According to copyrights displayed by Samsung Wave S8500, it uses code from FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD, although other phones might use Linux instead."

Until Apple does it, then it'll be magical!
