Obviously you wait until both manufacturers release their respective 2022 models and yes you compare the iPhone 14 to the S22.

So on your response, you would compare LG'S 2022 LED to last year's 2021 Samsung, if they release earlier? Rediculous and stupid.
So you will wait until the end of 2022 to talk about phones released in early 2022?

I hope they offer steep discounts. The Samsung Ultra starts at $1299 with just 128GB of storage.

If they removed the external storage slot to increase your storage via an SD CARD I am going to be PISSED.

“Unpacked” described the audience that has come to watch the unveiling of these phones… 😜

Both companies have different visions of their brands. Apple is after the luxury market, while Samsung wants to be the common electronics brand for everyone. By extension, each companies' focuses will be different. Apple is only focused in making ultra flagship every year, while Samsung has to make dozens of models, from $80 phones to $1000+ bleeding edge foldables.

And then, you're right, there's the experience. Android, in general, are commodity. You can replace an Android phone from one OEM to another without really breaking your workflow. Meanwhile, if you are in the Apple experience, you cannot just replace an iPhone with a Samsung without breaking your workflow. Thus more people inside Apple will likely remain with Apple, while people on Android can switch brands without much negative impact.
And all your features like ECG, blood pressutl Monitoring auto working when you switch from your Samsung phone to another android OEM.

Bought a new USB3 hub with SSD and a lot of ports. That plus kb/mouse and it'll be a killer DEX setup.

They’ll probably also unveil their new tablets. I’m more excited to see those.
It’s crazy to think that I forgot they even make tablets anymore, given the iPad really is the single most marketed tablet on the market. But now that you mention it, I think I want to tune in just to see what the advancements are compared to the iPad, given I rarely see marketing from Samsung in the tablet area.

Am I alone in thinking "Unpacked" is such an unfitting and unattractive term for an event like this?

I mean, even "unwrapped" would be better because it implies you don't know what's inside, that it's a surprise.

I think there will be a revival of Android tablets. More and more OEMs are entering the tablet market again, with Xiaomi, Realme, and even Nokia. The pandemic is making more demand into tablets, for those not able to afford and iPad, or those finding PCs to be too complicated.

It's now up to Google to start being serious about Android on tablets again.

Honestly, even iphones, smartphones are such a mature product at this point it's hard to get excited about any announcements about them now days. More mega pixels slight processor improvements. Yawn.
I'm idly wondering if smartphones are a mature product or whether we are in an accumulation phase in terms of computing power before the next great innovation can happen.

My gut says it's the latter, but I can't prove it.

Apple trails Samsung by years not months. Remember OLED, large screen, NFC, wireless charging, telescopic lens etc? All those features were added to iPhone a few years after Samsung had them in their phones.
True, I understand where you're coming from. But the problem with Samsung is that they're always rushing to be the first ones out the door.

Regardless of whether the feature is ready for prime time or not. The first Samsung Fold was a classic example to be seen as the first even though that phone felt more like a prototype phone than a phone that has been properly designed and tested.

I have a hard time understanding if this is a joke or not. How can you seriously say that samsung should compare their phone to the iPhone 14, you are free to make the comparison, but only once both phones are out

Seems like you do not care about the products at all. You are just trying to defend a company.

I quite like the squarer design of the Ultra. It looks less like an iPhone and the camera design is a lot better. Samsung make decent phones but the use of the word 'Epic' in their tagline is awful.

Remember, without Samsung chasing, there is no Apple innovating. You should all root for great stuff to come from Samsung.

It’s like hoping for M Night Shylaman to make a great movie again. A part of me still wants to believe, the rest of me just know better.

At the end of the day, the disparity comes down to Apple willing to invest in having an ecosystem, and everyone else either being unwilling, or unable to commit to doing the same.

Seriously. Samsung had like one crowning achievement - phablets. The rest has been a mixed bag, and this forum is still hyping them up like they are even capable of any form of meaningful competition to Apple at this point.

And probably unsupported before the iPhone 14 even comes out!

As for innovation, forget it. I think we're done. We're at the stage of maturity for smartphones. What we need is incremental improvements: better screens, better cameras, better battery life, less weight, lower power usage, simplifications. Rather than smash the whole chess board off the table, we just need to play the game.

Most innovation at this point feels like the customer is being experimented on, badly. Foldable screen phones is a fine example. I don't want that. I genuinely need a reliable and trustworthy device.
