It is funny to see that this site only picked up the experimental device, but not report other two big devices: Galaxy Note 3 and the Note 10.1.

The note revolutionized the way we using stylus and it offers plenty of useful features that benefit user. In my opinion, this phone would be the BEST phone and iPhone is no where close this beast.

The Note 10.1 offers S-Pen experiences with larger screen. With the screen resolution better than Retina iPad. But too bad, there are virtual no tablet optimized apps on Android. Wothout lack of tablet app, this device could be the tablet if the year. Too bad, iPad 5 will be just other enlarged version of iPad mini that offers no additional featurs to set apart with other iPads. Only advantage iPad offers to users are the 4:3 screen and large amount of tablet app selection.

Joke of the highest order. Camera hump on wristband looks idiotic. Samsung blows it again. This plus the new leather backed Note 3 = huge fails.

Actually the Note III has a faux leather back to go with the faux chrome metal band.

The negative comments seem to be directed at the product not the concept. Most would like to see a smart watch with more thought put into it and a great battery life. For now Pebble rules.

Pebble and Gear are two very different things. Pebble is a watch+. Gear is a gadget that happens to also offer a watch (just like mobile phones do). I did not follow Samsung announcement and I wonder if they actually call Gear a "smart watch". All reviews do call it a smart watch but I think it's misleading. Nobody would want a watch with one day battery life. However, if it's a gadget that is very useful to some people those people may consider buying it. Fitness, health monitoring seem to offer a value for some. It's hard to predict which other features will offer a significant value for regular smart phone users.

I'm no engineer, so don't kill me but I have a question...

Is it possible (or feasible) for Apple to put some kind of kinetic charging mechanism in addition to the more traditional battery? I don't know how much space it would take, but wouldn't that allow a smaller (physical size) battery to be used?

Sidenote: If an ipad mini is a little over $300, how could a watch cost that much?

Sure, and for most of the people on this board, if they put it on their right hand, it will never need charging.

Not really. Rather than "copying", this is more a case of "obviousness." And therefore, definitely not patentable. :p

Who said anything about patents.

My post illustrates that people think they are being original. They also (most likely) don't read full threads to see their "original" comment hasn't already been stated. Several times.

The funny (or sad) think about that is probably what would happen.

Maybe two years ago, but these days Apple doesn't quite have the same reputation as the company who can do no wrong among tech sites that they used to. The days when you could just slap an Apple logo on something and everyone would love it are coming to an end. Now they're just one (admittedly big) player in a crowded field.

As a piece of electronics...OK, I guess. Why anyone would want to wear electronics is beyond me...but to each his/her own.

As "high fashion"...not on this planet!

I think its just as important for mobile phones & peripherals to be well designed as it is to be functional, and have adequate specs.

Samsung could release the fastest phone in the world, but I still wouldn't get it if it was as ugly as all their other products (except TVs, I quite like those).

hahahahahahahahahahahaha I got you... hahahahaha

Well I won't contradict myself. I used to wear a watch but about 7 or 8 years ago I realized that I literally couldn't go anywhere without having a clock within eyesight, and that's not including on any devices I was carrying. That's when I stopped wearing a watch. It's redundant. Apple could come out with a watch but it won't be for me. Sure it might have some functions but I just don't see anything that the form factor could do that I either need or can't do better with a current device.

Well said sir. I don't think watch's are redundant personally, but it is true these day's clocks surround you.

Possible "iWatch"

Maybe the new "iWatch" can look like this:

I'd still be willing to wager that many here who are bashing the Samsung watch would be praising the exact same thing with an Apple logo on it.

Not sure where you were when the Mac Pro redesign was announced, also you might want to read the reactions to iOS 7 so far and the iPhone 5C doesn't seem to find undivided love either in the forums, but sure, you're right...

Well yeah, people here...

You have to go down south on the board before people quit bashing things simply because they're the competition. It's the reason why I don't post up in news as much as I used to. You can actually have honest discussions about things without someone popping in to call you a fanboy sellout hater astroturfer.

I've read a lot of positive posts about the new Mac Pro, many of them loving the design. A round computer is revolutionary. Of course if anyone else had made a round computer even more powerful it would have been a gimmick. And I saw the rumors of a cheap plastic iPhone become a wonderful idea in the past few weeks. Plastic phones which were junk according to many here are now fantastic. Samsung Galaxy= plastic junk, iPhone 5C in lime green plastic =great idea. I can't name specific people who have flip flopped on either of these, but simply by reading this forum daily I have seen a big shift from negative to positive.

In....

a village from where I live, exists a saying...."Whoever hits first, hits twice". Samsung are doing this in many ways:

-Create fan base and accumulate expertise in a new product
-Test the waters of demand-supply for a new category
-Create leverage in the always nebulose field of patents

No a death blow tough.....Apple nows have a direct competitor foraying in waters unknown....

:):apple:

I'll have to check that out. Honest discussions are sorely lacking for the most part in the news forum. But I will say that there are some regular users here, yourself included, who are willing to have a good discussion.

Whats interesting is the battery. Rumors say apple wanted 5 days of use. This watch lasts 1 day using a 315mAh battery, so going by that a 5 day battery would be approx 1500mAh, which isn't far off the iphones 1700 odd mAh.

You can see then what a design issue this is and the delay in making something last 5 days with bluetooth, vibration, and a full iOS.

Qualcomm also announced a $300 smartwatch today... with 3-5 day battery life and an included inductive bedside charger. Interestingly, the battery is on the bottom of the strap (see left photo), so the display can be thinner.

Its Mirasol screen is a Qualcomm invention, which combines e-Ink low power with kind of a metallic color display that's visible in sunlight.

Basically links to an Android (possibly iOS later) phone and allows the usual Bluetooth call view and control, music playback controls, along with notifications, calendar, weather, etc. Qualcomm promises an SDK for developers.

I'd also be willing to wager that Apple could put out the greatest watch known to mankind and because it had an Apple logo it would get bashed, from people, like yourself for instance.

Works both ways you know.
