Hmm. Actually very surprised Apple didn't beat them to it.

Rumors were Apple was having problems getting more than 2 days battery life. Apple could give a crap less about being first (or beating Samsung or whoever to market). Samsung's main priority seems to have been to get something, anything out there before Apple and Google. So things like battery life, smooth OS, not bulky etc. were sacrificed in a rush to market.

battery life

After reader a lot of the posts on this thread, i think most of you seams to forget that it is UP TO 1 day. We should all know what that means from someone like samsung...

You read a few emails, make a 5 minute call on your way to work and you are left with less than 60% to last the rest of the day. If it's sunny and you have to boost the brightness, you won't last until lunch time.

I expect it will die after 20h if you only use it to know what time it is

Are you shocked? They are run by tech/engineering/tech spec types. That's all these people care about.

Sony's President about 3 years ago (I wish I saved the article) said that the reason Sony was struggling so bad with consumers was that their products were being designed by engineers and for what engineers thought was cool.

He then said that what engineering types think is cool and is usable, is NOT what consumers think is cool or usable and that they needed to hire more designer/tech types and just have the engineers build what they design.

I just am not sure what I will do with a 'watch' to control the phone I already have....

:D I know, I have to get my eyes checked. I must have misread all of those posts claiming Samsung phones were crap because they were made out of plastic, and Apple would never lower their standards and make a plastic phone.

Allow me to help you :) Plastic is cheap and an unworthy material. I'll be disappointed with Apple if they produce an iPhone made in plastic, which it sure does look like will come to be. In fact, Apple should get rid of all the plastic from their products. They kept talking in the past about how much they cared for the environment and were getting more and more environmentally friendly, to now betray those standards to mass produce a bunch of plastic phones strikes me as a betrayal of those standards. Dam material should be banned!

Besides the obvious fail on battery life, I dont think it looks that bad. without the screen on it looks worse but when the screen is activated it looks alot better to me. Ive never been a watch person but in the last year I have started wearing one and Im sure when apple comes out with theirs I will get one.

Are you talking about Samsungs or Apple's?

We have no clue what Apple's will do but I'm sure it's not just going to be an 'extension' of your phone.

Good point. We also know batteries don't last forever and their charge capacity goes down with time. So how long will the advertised specs last (even without factoring in updates that will make everything smoother but result in more power draw)?

Pebble did better with less than 1% of their budget. Keep on thinking who will scoop up Pebble and what offers they had so far.

They look like $9 watches you can buy at gas stations.
Not a Samsung hater... just... they look dirt cheap is all.

and the screws up front gives them a look of "mom look how I am half cooked created in hurry".

This thing is awful. I won't use them even if paid.

ok, 2 ridiculous points:

- a one-day battery
- having a camera in the strap

I would never buy a watch that i have to recharge everyday

a camera in the strap ???? what for ???

there is already a camera on the smartphone

Samsung just tried to put some features of a smartphone in a watch, it's useless

i hope that Apple will not make the same mistake
Even the biggest Samsung fanboy around me says he won't buy this watch. Epic fail.

This watch is packing 512MB of RAM, same amount as on a low/mid range iMac. Thats not good

iMac has 8GB RAM.
Anyway this smart watch from SS is just stupid. Price, battery life and design are all ugly. I wish Apple come up with a much better idea and poke fun at SS in their Keynote.

A watch is a fashion item and sort of defines your tastes. So this one-day battery $299 smartwatch thing is equivalent to a tattoo on your arm that reads "I am the biggest Samsung fanboy".

Wow... have you lived in a cave for most of the past decade?

Even the iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM.

Samsung- this is what you get when you don't have an existing design to knockoff.

If Apple is in fact working on a watch, they are certainly laughing their @sses off right now.

We know Apple didn't invent the MP3 player, but they made it a product category. It looks like they are primed to do this once again.

The most accurate post in this thread. Well done. :)

Wow this watch is useless before it even hit the market. So this is what rush to market truly looks like. It's embarrassing.

The batty life on a watch has to be much better.

When Jony Ive started working on the project iWatch, he drew up the complete design for an iWatch on the first day. Then he called all the designers and all the engineers, showed them the design, and said: "Look guys, if we build _this_ then we will be laughed off the ground of the earth, and nobody will buy this or any other Apple product ever again. " Then he crumbled the paper with the design into a little ball and threw it into the waste basket.

One intern came back late at night, got the drawing out of the waste, flattened it carefully and used an iron very carefully to remove all traces of it being folded, then called a friend at Samsung, and lots of money changed hands for an "original iWatch design by Jony Ive". One year later, Samsung releases its "Smart Watch".

That's crazy, no amount of ironing will get folds out of paper. <.< >.>

When you're naming the color for something, why the heck would you choose "Oatmeal Beige" as a name? Whuuuuut? Every single detail of this product makes me think that September 4th is the Korean equivalent of April Fool's day or something...

My take on this whole smart watch scenario is this:
If the device is only good for storing some music while u excercise, then it is for that rich crowd who is into newest and best. It may also have some limited use as a communication device if the voice command features work flawlessly. Beyond that, it is just a fad, with less functionality than a phone or a fablet.

Terrible battery life? I just switched to an S4 from 4S. It blows away the iPhone's battery.

You do realize you just switched from a 2 year old phone to a brand new one. Of course the battery is better. It is at the beginning of its life cycle.

If it is just for music when exercising, the previous generation iPod nano was perfect, and you could get 2 of them for $300.

I don't really think that Apple will really release a smartwatch. It's such a dumb idea unless Apple can revolutionize the design, battery life, and use case of such product. Smartwatches at the current stage are totally disastrous.
