$300?

Pass.
$300 is nothing. If this were cool, or beautiful, or just so damned functional that it would change my life, I'd drop $300 on it in a heartbeat.

It seems to be none of those things, however.

I'm dubious about whether I even want an iWatch, which will likely be at least cool and beautiful.

But this . . . this is like a calculator watch.

Please Apple..

all I can say is please Apple continue tradition of not being first to market with a new product category but defining that category....

Heck, at that cost, I'll get a Pebble before I'd ever get one of those... BOO!!!

THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS? :eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:

I'm watching 'Earth Girls Are Easy'. and if THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS would get me Gena Davis, I'd gladly pay, but THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a 'watch' that kinds sorta works depending on what version of a hydra (as in how many versions are 'out there') like operating system your assorted (junk) might use is BS...

Wow, this thread is popular tonight...

Samsung doesn't care about the mock of being copycat or anything. I can't agree more to this. BUT.. to them (or anyone), sales or money matters, who care about the noise. Fact is people are still buying their products, and their market share is increasing. To deal with them, boycott their products in your daily life and best influence your family and friends to do the same.

"I believe it will become a new fashion icon around the world," said Samsung CEO JK Shin.

Gosh, yes... The same way having oozing Herpes sores on your forehead is catching on... NOT!

What the heck is the black pimple on the top? An NSA uplink? An ELT for UFO's?

I'd expect this from a post Microsoft buyout Nokia...

Meanwhile, in Cupertino..

This thing looks like a total piece of garbage. I don't know what Apple has in mind, but I'm sure it won't be as predictable and poorly designed as this turd.

I recently switched to Android, but I really hope that Apple shows us something better. IMO Apple hasn't done much to impress anyone in a couple of years, so this could be a big test of their innovation .

Wait, what? Why should we boycott their products? Some are good, some aren't. This clearly isn't. But I'm not completely sure why we should boycott all Samsung products and encourage others to do the same?

Exactly. My Rolex is $10,000 - which isn't even that much compared to what's out there. $300 is pennies for a watch especially if you consider as a man's one jewelry.

But it's gotta offer something more than plastic.

Are people going to compare it to smart phones, or compare it to watches? That's the real question.

im watch has smartwatches with sleek touch for good prices.

Scamsungs state of innovation.

I am kinda glad Samsung released this one before the anticipated iWatch, and showcased their real state of innovation :D. This is an abnormal product and price point!

Great cue the Samboys saying Apple copied them next year or so.

Lego blocks are made of plastic. Do you hate Lego blocks?

I don't know about you, but I have never referred to legos as "devices".

Because samsung is an evil company that has zero morals and refuses to pay rightful patent owners their part.

Yeah, kinda like Apple.

I love the way some people demonize certain companies as "evil". As if infringing upon intellectual property is tantamount to theft, and there's some great morality play going on amongst all the corporations of the world.

Truth is, when it comes to companies as large as Apple and Samsung, there is no "good", nor is there an "evil". It's all varying degrees of cheap scummy bastardism.

So these are the kind of "epic designs" Samsung comes out with when they are not copying Apple.

God, "I believe this will become a fashion icon?!" Delusional. They'll sell exactly 16 of these.

I laughed so hard at this.
Iconic is not the word for the Gear.. Maybe "seasonal" .. Like the Halloween costumes that come and go at WalMart.

$300 for an ACCESSORY is unrealistic..

Should be interesting to see if Verizon, AT&T, etc try to add this on with a Note purchase.

Bringing stolen designs to market at a cheaper price does not vindicate theft, however, it creates a loyal following

"I believe it will become a new fashion icon around the world,"

i don't think this will be the case. if the ipod became the (fashion) icon it was with the white ear buds (along with arguably the iphone), many people are waiting on apple's take on a watch and that may become "a new fashion icon around the world"

It's definitely ridonk that it costs $300 and requires a phone to function. At $300, it should be its own thing that complements a phone. Maybe Apple would release iWatch models with just WiFi and Bluetooth to work off your iPhone but then another with cellular so it could be its own device. In other words an iPad on your wrist.

You also can't be serious about a one-day charge. I get frustrated with my Fitbit Flex because it needs to be charged every five days and it's not exactly usable when charging. "Charge it at night" defeats the sleep-tracking function. So those are a couple of things Apple would have to figure out.

It's your money to spend

I disagree.

A watch is a watch, so if Apple will come up with a watch for 99 dollars then I'll not be interested because it can't be a "revolutionary" device for such amount of money i.m.h.o. I'm talking about a device and not about a watch because I think we all agree that "just" a watch is not something where geeks or Apple fans (me included) are waiting for...

I also agree that this samsung watch is very ugly. Not only because it's ugly i.m.h.o. which is just my opinion but it's also just a watch with something extra's.

Any watch from Apple cheaper then this and a bit nicer would't interest me at all. I'm only interested in an Apple "watch" if:

- it doesn't look like a watch
- it contains some truly new techniques
- it make use of your wrist in total, so it will fit in a way that would feel different, not just a device on top and a plastic thing to keep it together.
- it will be "just as good with the on board capabilities as it's other devices. Example: if it has an on board camera, then it should be just as good as an iPhone camera. Else you will end up with something worse, why shooting a picture with bad quality when having your iPhone with you as well. And most apple users do have an iPhone...

And this all is worth more then 99 bucks. I wouldn't mind spend 200 bucks, but it should be good. I'm not willing to pay 99 or less for something that can do lot's of things much worse when compared with my iPhone.

To each his own, but I for one have absolutely no interest in some "total wrist" cybernetic attachment like you describe. I still question the need for a wearable iDevice to extend the functionality of my iPhone or iPad to my wrist as it is. My own pocket isn't too far away or inconvenient to reach for my iPhone.

Expense doesn't necessarily equal value either. You may value those features a lot, but $200+ is a lot to spend on a piece of tech to wear on the wrist, and I don't think most people would want it, much less pay that kind of money for it, particularly if it's anything like this Samsung trash.

Apple generally aims for magic price points with their products. 99¢ for song downloads from the iTunes Store when it first opened is a prime example. For an iAccessory, which an Apple watch would most likely be, I think $99 would be the magic price point. Maybe $129. Any higher, and the device should stand on its own.

That's just it. IP infringement isn't theft. It's simply IP infringement. They're not thrown in jail, or put on probation, or suffer any consequences of what would normally constitute theft. 99 times out of 100, those caught infringinging have to pay for the rights of the ideas they're using in their own products.

It's a simple fact that it's not something some corporations do, and others don't. They've ALL done it, and they'll continue to do it until the end of time.
