the Galaxy Gear also notifies wearers of text messages and other updates. It does not function on its own, requiring a Bluetooth 4.0 connection to work.

What I want is a watch with fully functional 4G LTE Internet access built into the watch. I am hoping for this functionality for iWatch....fully functional in-watch 4G LTE. That would be a very compelling reason for me to grab one.

camera placement on strap, and 1 day battery charge

what would be funny is if apple never had any intentions for making a watch, and all these smart watches that have been coming out for the past few years would flop.

Aesthetics are bad

If Apple does release a watch, I expect to see two styles; a sporty watch and a fashionable one (or maybe they would have switchable bands).

Overall, this is not a good looking watch. With Apple, especially since they hired a major person from fashion house Yves St. Laurant, their watch will be very fashionable. A metal band would be nice to see. The metal band could hold extra memory or batteries. I also predict that Apple watch will use some solar power for battery. I have an Eco diver from Citizen and the solar power is nice.

Smartwatch idea was never Apple's. There have been watches that have had connectivity with PDA's and smartphones since the Palm. The concept is fine. It's execution that has never been successfully completed.
This...
No one has been able to successfully execute a design that provides quality materials, functionality and longevity in an "aesthetically pleasing" package.

Never happen... the radio alone would eat a watch size battery up in a matter of a couple of hours.
Tethering it via low power BT to another device makes more sense.

Why would you need that? You realize that you would have to have a SIM and data plan too? Cellular radios take a lot of power. That's a very bad idea. That's why all of these devices connect with bluetooth low to devices that DO have cellular radios.

Why does a watch need a camera? Especially if you're going to have a smart phone on you.

Also ONE DAY of battery life?

I'm guessing that 1 day battery claim is reduced to half a day after several clicks on the camera.

and do we really want to charge our watches now too =/

watches are more of a fashion statement today

exactly. apple's only move is to introduce a watch that is more jewelry / fashion accessory than smartphone. that doesn't mean it cannot have a lot of functionality. it just means that in order for people to want the world to know what they're wearing, function is going to have to follow form this time. and that's something i think apple has flirted with for the past 30+ years.

This will go down the same path as Android smartphones have gone. The terrible battery life will force them to have to use bigger batteries which they will cover up by increasing screen size. I can't wait for next year's Galaxy Gear S Note II with 4" screen.
And you don't think that a larger screen eats up any advantage gain of a larger battery?

I would love the "iWatch" to be announced next week at $149 or $199 that blows Samsung's crap away.

Watch how fast Samsung pulls this from shelves and goes "oh why didn't we think of this" or at the very least, sell it at $79.

Just so I wouldn't have to take my iPhone everywhere with me. It's a pain the ass to carry the thing around.

there's a hands on video at engadget. it's hard to understand how they can design such a horrible interface. unintuitive gestures, terribly designed icons, oddly placed physical button...

It's Samsung. Did you not see tablets and phones before the iPhone/iPad?

This has got to be one of the most useless products in the history of consumer electronics. The wristwatch went the way of the do-do bird back in '82 or so. I hope Apple doesn't consider such an outdated form factor.

Samsung- this is what you get when you don't have an existing design to knockoff.

If Apple is in fact working on a watch, they are certainly laughing their @sses off right now.

We know Apple didn't invent the MP3 player, but they made it a product category. It looks like they are primed to do this once again.

Sad...

It is disappointing to see Samsung releasing a crap product just to be the first in the market' which they aren't anyway because of the Pebble. You can just tell that they put a team of engineers together working under the clock, guided by the specs that have been rumored about the iwatch, maybe even reading about them on this site. Even the comment that it will be a fashion icon sounds weak, like the guy doesn't believe it himself. I bet he wasn't wearing one.

As expected

This thing is ridiculous. But it's exactly what I've been expecting from Samsung.
They wanted to hit the market before Apple. But omg.
It's like those Microsoft Tablets from 10 years ago.
It's usability is a disaster, the lag is awful, the battery-life a complete joke (when Samsung says one day, it's gonna be a couple of hours of actual use - at most).
Apple will take its time and do it right.
I want to get actual use out of a device like this.
I think Apple will go more Nike Fuelband, less Smartwatch.
With great and very accurate Sensors and limited notifications.
And they're not gonna release it with only one day of battery life. Well at least if Apple would state one day it would actually be one day.

holy $***

is that Samsung's own version of Jonathan Ive ????

the guy looks like a freaking idiot, no wonder why their products are also so lame

I love all these Samsung BAD, Apple GOOD threads - won't know anything about the iWatch until 2014 - that should keep all the fanboys busy.

"One-day battery life" Excellent fanboy-type article pointing out the negatives as early as the title. Fanboys can now be assured that our stuff is still the coolest and that everybody else makes sucky stuff.

Why would I want a smart watch that only lasts for a day, or even if Apple's is better and lasts for a week, why would I want that when I can get a regular watch where the battery lasts a couple years?

Why wait for Apple to put out a watch, just look at the old calculator watches out there there really isn't a lot of a difference, similar size, just as odd looking on the wrist.

Those are sweeeeeeet.
