I thought the whole point of a smart phone was to reduce the amount of crap you had to carry/wear, not increase it with gimmicky remotes strapped on to your wrist.

Tim Cook's reaction to Samsungs watch.

I wouldn't be surprised if apple leaked to the world that they were working on a watch (even had some people working on it) just to get other companies to make one, and apple won't ever release it. lol

I've suspected that about the AppleTelevision for a couple of years.

You guys - :)

This is a Gen1 smartwatch released to get something on the market to then develop. People can choose to buy it or not KNOWING it's gen1. Yeah - it's clunky and WAY WAY too expensive, but the battery life is comparable to other GEN1 smartwatches being released and it's not that bad functionally.

So Apple waits it out and let's technology catch up to what they want to do - BUT THEY HAVE NO PRODUCT currently. By the time they release in mid to late 2014, Samsung with be a considerably better GEN2 and Sony will be GEN3, along with a slew of other vendor odderings.

In fact, GEN2 of Sony is already considerably better:

Say what you want, but until Apple actually releases an actual product then compared to what others have AT THAT TIME, you are all just blowing steam. :)

Epic Fail.

This is exactly what everyone would say Samsung would come out with...basically an iPod Nano with limited features. And these features are pretty bad and horrible battery life and interface. Relying on 3rd party apps is also bad. Not shocking at all, this is what I expect from an 'engineering/tech spec' focused company and not a design/usability company like Apple.

They did this so they could beat Apple to market so they cannot be caught up in another lawsuit with Apple.

Whatever Apple comes out with will not be a smartphone on your wrist like this thing is. It will be a new device that combines multiple things into something you won't want to leave home without. From NFC, health monitoring, connectivity and other features along with a design that doesn't look like a watch (I mean seriously, it was SOOOO obvious what Samsungs watch was going to look like).

I am always amazed how much faith people have in apple even though apple (to me) never delivered such a thing.

This is what happens when Samsung tries to innovate. Had Apple released iwatch, Samsung wouldn't have made such a bad product.

holy $***

is that Samsung's own version of Jonathan Ive ????

the guy looks like a freaking idiot, no wonder why their products are also so lame

No, he's called Jason and he's a technology presenter in the UK. Presents a show called The Gadget Show and more recently became the face of Protect My Bubble tech insurance. Certainly not a tech designer.

Do you have a link for that? Or was that an original bias thought made up in your head and said as a fact because you're in love with Apple and Android is a competitor?

Do you think that bigger screens do not use more battery?

What he said, and EPIC fail is indeed right. I hope this quiets the naysayers about Apple and why they are taking their time. The iWatch will put Samsung's to shame...

Samsung will change their design drastically...it won't even look like this after Apple comes out with theirs.

ugly... and will it get hot??

Lots of good points here about lack of aesthetics, bulkiness and "why would I need this?"

Another consideration... my smartphone gets HOT sometimes. Would this get hot and make my wrist sweat?

Somebody at Samsung is VERY NERVOUS right now... "will this sell? Can I keep my job??"

I cannot think of a SINGLE reason I'd want to buy a smart watch if THIS was the example I was shown! I hope Apple makes whatever it offers USEFUL without overlapping what my iPHone can already do. And it better look freaking GORGEOUS on the wrist, not like some 60's sci-fi idea of a futuristic watch, like Samsung has here.

Well I think we can already tell that this will suck quite badly. Ultra short battery life, requirement to pair with a phone, lagginess and unintuitive controls, paired with the fact that there isn't really a demand or need for such a device anyway.

If the only point of a smartwatch is to avoid you having to reach into your pocket for your phone, at the cost of having to charge it, together with your phone, every single day, and worry about connection issues and the differences between interfaces and features between it and the smartphone, then what's the point?

I think it's stupid to just say "oh smartphones are now boring, what's the next thing that we need to buy?". There has to be a real problem that this device solves, and "not having to reach into your pocket" isn't a problem.

If Apple does release a smartwatch, they better make it far more than just a silly "cool" gadget that you can totally live without.

camera vulnerable??

Also...wouldn't the camera placed as such be vulnerable to people slapping their wrist down on the table?? What if you forget you're wearing it and slam your wrist down... or bump your wrist against a door frame. Would it scratch the camera lens?

Not to mention that ergonomically... it's a lousy place to HAVE a camera!!!

This is BullShat. This thing isnt ready. I cant stand when companies do this. All they are thinking about is beating the competition to market. That shouldnt matter. If you produce an incredible product, the masses will come.

This already seems like an epic fail.
