I love the idea of smartwatches (got a Pebble myself), but this is taking it a little too far. A camera? A heavy duty (for what it is) processor? These watches should mirror and be partner devices for phones and tablets, not entire devices in themselves.

At least it's good to have a different approach to the smartwatch concept. Something that really is a smartwatch.

And yet another perfect example of why smart watches of this type totally fail, as will Apples own device. A battery life of a day to a few days is not acceptable I don't think in 2013. Why can't they follow Casio's vision? A smart with that simply warns you of calls or messages and yet with its cell battery has over 2 years battery life!

Just so I wouldn't have to take my iPhone everywhere with me. It's a pain the ass to carry the thing around.

What do you have against pockets? Arm bands? There's no way a watch would exist that does what you want it to and last a whole day of battery life unless it was near the size of the phone you don't want to carry in the first place.

Considering the US has one of the highest obesity rates in the world, I can't believe this'll be a big selling point.

I think Samsung's watch is fairly awful, but I am very impressed at what it can do and the kids will love it.

Yes, because the US has a high obesity rate, it has no fitness market. I guess that's why we have no atheists either. Too many Christians!

I'm surprised they put a camera on it, just seems like a waste of time the quality is too poor to be used and just adds to the bulk not to mention everyone already has a great camera in their smart phone which if you're buying a $300 smart watch you would already own.

Samsung come on, you can do better.

Yep..and this again is the point about a company just not 'getting' it. Why would you put a 1.9 mp camera and just raise the price considering EVERYONE that uses this thing is going to need their smartphone with them, which has a better camera.

It's like the blind leading the blind. They only care about tech specs and features and nothing about USABILITY.

Sounds like Samsung have left the door wide open for Apple and their iWatch... Once again, it is better to take your time with a product and get it right.

I would find it frustrating to have to charge my watch every day! Hopefully Apple do something amazing with the battery life

the concept and hype of this smart watch concept is epic FAIL !

never ever it would compel me to buy one . as for big screen phone its fine but after owning note for few years i want to move to iphone .

iphone with 4.7 inch screen and double battery life and minimalistic design would be amazing .. something like moto x footprint with apples amazing build.

This is just terrible. I could have designed something better in 1999. Apple better have something better for us next week.

holy $***

is that Samsung's own version of Jonathan Ive ????

No, that's Jason Bradbury.. an annoying TV presenter in the UK..

Why, was he presenting in the Samsung keynote?

Hmm.. that compromises his role as a reviewer on 'The Gadget Show' in the UK!

the should have waited for apple to release their smart watch so Samsung can have something good to copy

Epic Fail.

This is exactly what everyone would say Samsung would come out with...basically an iPod Nano with limited features. And these features are pretty bad and horrible battery life and interface. Not shocking at all, this is what I expect from an 'engineering/tech spec' focused company and not a design/usability company like Apple.

They did this so they could beat Apple to market so they cannot be caught up in another lawsuit with Apple.

Whatever Apple comes out with will not be a smartphone on your wrist like this thing is. It will be a new device that combines multiple things into something you won't want to leave home without. From NFC, health monitoring, connectivity and other features along with a design that doesn't look like a watch (I mean seriously, it was SOOOO obvious what Samsungs watch was going to look like).

I also find it funny that people defending Samsung are saying things like "You don't know what Apple will come out with..they could have come out with something just like this" and I think the majority of us know that Apple would never come out with something like this epic fail of technology.

I was going to post the Joker meme "And here we gooooo..." to signal the start of the smart watch wars....but I mean seriously this thing is just so awful I think this is more appropriate of a look from the Joker.

What he said, and EPIC fail is indeed right. I hope this quiets the naysayers about Apple and why they are taking their time. The iWatch will put Samsung's to shame...

Fugly as crap. One day battery, well there are watches that never need a battery or winding- the wearers motion provides the power so you know where that should go.

So wait, Samsung is now in the business or proactive copying instead of reactive?
In their rush to beat Apple they've forced out a dumb, cheap looking product that no one will want. Seriously, has Samsung EVER had an original idea in its life? They should at least stick to waiting for Apple to come out first so they can see what th public will actually want.

$300 ! This is garbage, it looks like iPod nano in watch form, so this has already been done. It has too much of what my phone has, not Necessary, Tell Dick Tracy take his watch back, Next!
This was a jump the gun move by samesung to take away Apples shine when it comes to their turn on the watch.

true but I said iPod Touch not Nano ;)

but also the nano does have a touch screen...and honestly i dont need my watch to take low-res pictures or make a phone call, im pretty sure my phone will do a better job...but whatever man lol

iPod Nano is just a freaking MP3 player and nothing else. This thing at least gets a touch screen, a camera, can make phone call, a gryo.

It's not important to Apple to be the first into any market. What Apple does does is they learn from other's failures, and strive to come out with the best user experience money can buy.

1 day battery life, are they freaking serious? This is not a smart phone; it is a watch, and I don't want to be plugging it in every 24 hrs!

Massive fail, as usual wait for the real McCoy from Apple. This is a prime example of why Samsung copy, their original ideas suck!

24 hours of battery life would be above and beyond. If Apple hits 18 hours on a full charge with a full recharge in 6 hours that would be ideal. That's for any product - be it a watch, tablet, phone, or laptop.

Nobody should be using their products more than 18 hours a day and everybody should be sleeping at least six hours a day, so as long as you always have it charging while you sleep, you're golden. Personally, I use an alarm clock app on my iPhone, so I never forget to plug it in at night (if I ever did, it'd be the same as forgetting to set your alarm.) Part of my Pre-sleep routine is making sure my laptop is plugged in and my current watch is where it belongs. I'd be fine if where my watch belongs at night is on a charger of some sort.

Aiming for a multiday battery isn't just unnecessary - it's dumb. If the device lasts more than a day, I'll be less likely to charge it on a regular basis. Instead I'd end up only charging it after it dies - IE, exactly when I'd rather be using than charging it.

This will go down the same path as Android smartphones have gone. The terrible battery life will force them to have to use bigger batteries which they will cover up by increasing screen size. I can't wait for next year's Galaxy Gear S Note II with 4" screen.

Do you have a link for that? Or was that an original bias thought made up in your head and said as a fact because you're in love with Apple and Android is a competitor?

The extra fun benefit now. If you're at a urinal next to someone with a Galaxy Gear on, where exactly is there lens pointed at?
