Well the good news is when your watch runs out of battery, you can still look at your phone to see what time it is.

Perhaps in the Far East, where wearing wacky **** is part of established, and I use the term in a wholly ironic sense, fashion. This is a knee-jerk reaction on Samsung's part to beat Apple to market and I honestly believe it's something is going to bite them in the ass.

What would be truly hilarious is if the whole Apple iWatch rumor was started by Apple, just to see who would take the bait. :p

Tim and Co. are sitting in a conference room somewhere, giggling.

Note 3? No thanks. I don't wanna look ridiculous. Stylus is so innovative. Yeah "experimental" to pay $300. Fail!!!

Dude... Note 3 is awesome, WTF are you talking about. How is Note 3 makes you look ridiculous? Size? iPhone is just too freaking small and 5.7 inch is just prefect for me.

And yeah. Samsung can price whatever they what, and you don't have to pay $300 for this. I highly doubut Apple will sell their smartwatch less than this, and it might not be much better than this.

I still think "smart watches" are stupid. Please stay away from this market, Apple!

Agree completely. Consumer electronics is a lucrative and worthwhile field but there's no need to reinvent the wheel by shoehorning a bunch of needless features, most of which can either be handled by your phone or which you won't use more than a few times a day, into something as simple as a watch.

That's one place Apple will never have my business. I love my watches too much to replace them with a digital horror.

Where are the jokes about a gold coloured watch now?

Nice! Someone Came Out With Something Before Apple Did!

... but let's get to the point here. Who is going to pay $300 for a watch that runs off your cell phone and has a 1 day battery life?

hahaha i would rather strap an iPod Touch to my wrist...it's cheaper and looks nicer! :D

iPod Nano is just a freaking MP3 player and nothing else. This thing at least gets a touch screen, a camera, can make phone call, a gryo.

Are you shocked? They are run by tech/engineering/tech spec types. That's all these people care about.

Sony's President about 3 years ago (I wish I saved the article) said that the reason Sony was struggling so bad with consumers was that their products were being designed by engineers and for what engineers thought was cool.

He then said that what engineering types think is cool and is usable, is NOT what consumers think is cool or usable and that they needed to hire more designer/tech types and just have the engineers build what they design.

In the three years since he said that...sony products offer...horrible small remote controls for their BluRay player...stupid interfaces on that unit for internet sites including youtube....no one seems to overlook what is being done in the design of Sony products. You would think that in three years they could design user friendly products BUT NO

EPIC FAIL!

So let me get this right.
This will ONLY work if within grange of an active Bluetooth device?
And only a few out of the hundreds of Android devices are compadble with this watch?
What happens if you walk across the room? will you even be able to check the time?
AND almost a whole day of battery life?!
Wow cant wait for this!

Like pretty much all Android accessories and Apps, this ONLY works if you have one of the handful of select models of phones and tablets that support it.
And I am assuming not all versions of the 5 different Android OS's currently in use that can support this?

This is one reason why the iOS is MUCH better. One current iOS in use with 95% adoption rate (not 4 or 5 separate os's all each being supported at the same time like Android) and one line of Phones/Tablets that (more or less) are equal in capabilities and with a very few exceptions can all run the same apps, unlike Android where there are 100's of devices, each with completely different hardware specs and abilities and that is before you get to Apps, many of which wont work across the board and have to be rewritten for each OS/ Device combination.

Hummm.... $300 for ugly... no thanks!

To me, this product looks rushed. The design is bulky and I'm guessing will look and feel bad when worn. Plus, one day of battery seems low.

I really hope Apple does much better than this.

Yep they will..but we'll have pictures to do the comparison of their watch to then Apple's watch and then their watch after Apple's watch.

Like these

Just like we have the iPhone and iPad comparison pictures before and after.

Why wait for Apple to put out a watch, just look at the old calculator watches out there there really isn't a lot of a difference, similar size, just as odd looking on the wrist.

I do agree that the pen thing was a good example of Samsung's willingness to experiment, but this is just straight up trying to beat Apple to market on an idea that (to me) seemed silly even when it was Apple's.

Smartwatch idea was never Apple's. There have been watches that have had connectivity with PDA's and smartphones since the Palm. The concept is fine. It's execution that has never been successfully completed.

Sony's President about 3 years ago (I wish I saved the article) said that the reason Sony was struggling so bad with consumers was that their products were being designed by engineers and for what engineers thought was cool.

That is not Sony's problem. Sony's problem is their music / movies division which made sure that no Sony product could make copies of Sony music or movies, which made their products absolutely unusable. That division actually prevented the engineers from creating products that did what the customers wanted.

Seriously, this would make me love Apple's management if that were true, but I doubt it. Tim seems way too dry to punk Samsung in such an overt manner. Now, Steve or Woz, Woz especially, I could absolutely buy it.

The title says it all.......

With One-Day Battery Life

A great way to promote a product.......

I expect Apple will feature a lot of fitness/biometric features that the iphone doesn't do directly,

Considering the US has one of the highest obesity rates in the world, I can't believe this'll be a big selling point.

I think Samsung's watch is fairly awful, but I am very impressed at what it can do and the kids will love it.

Or Samsung rushing to put out a lawsuit-averting product.
Actually, this might end up with another lawsuit. Here's how.

Samsung releases this watch with a loud fizzle. Apple comes along 6 months from now and shows everyone a smartwatch that does things we didn't even know we wanted. Samsung quickly designs a Gear 2, which looks nothing like the Gear 1, but. Ruinously copies all of the design cues of the iWatch

Honestly, I think Samsung striking out on Gear 1 is good for Apple in the sense that it lowers expectations for the iWatch. Everyone will move in the fences and when apple hits a 400 foot homer, it'll seem like a moonshot.

Why wait for Apple to put out a watch, just look at the old calculator watches out there there really isn't a lot of a difference, similar size, just as odd looking on the wrist.

I think you are confusing Apple with some crapware company. Apple would put out something as unrefined and multi-buttoned as those watches just as soon as Raul Castro cancels a May Day parade because he is ringing the bell at the NYSE that day.

Here is the one thing that makes this and the smart watch concept flawed in general. It needs to be used with a smartphone.

To me it should be more of a fitness product/timepiece so it needs bluetooth for wireless earphones, gps and wifi for downloading apps and syncing the fitness info with apps like nike + myfitnesspal etc.

Leave messages, internet and other apps to your smartphone.

They are over complicating this product IMO.
