Expected bigger gains from the cameras and as far as CPU/GPU, I suppose it's the best they can have in the android world. Other than that idk. Maybe stereo speakers?

Their software, services and support leave a lot to be desired imo.
I agree 100%. I hated touchwiz. Even the newer implementations of it are extremely boring. And all the duplicate apps (calender, mail, etc.) are annoying. Not to mention, the whole time I was with Sammy I never got a single software update. Since switching to iPhone ive had at least 10 (including 10.3 betas).

these clowns at Samsung even copied the marketing name from Apple -- the "Plus". really? is that the only possible nomenclature for a larger size? pathetic.
Plus inductive charging, OLED screen technology, pixel density, integrated home button, iris/facial recognition, screen sizes, camera technology.
And then they even launch it well before Apple...
Tim Dongle and Joni Bezel should go after them cooycats

Fugly Samsung junk, the rounded screen corners look horrible on this and the G6. The home button is still there, it's just on the BACK LOL, what "innovation"

But hopefully all you Samsung hipsters buy this so it's easier for me to get the iPhone 8 this Fall.

Well, Samsung is making the screens for the next iPhone. Let's hope it will that good as the S8. Most of the tech inside the iPhone aren't apple's inventions. The camera is borrowed from Sony where Samsung develops its own tech. So it will be hard for Apple to compete with others making their own technology. As of today, Samsung has set the gold standard. I don't believe Apple will ever be able to leapfrog them anymore. They were very lucky with the battery disaster. If that didn't happen, the landscape would have been very different today. Bixby seems to do a lot more then Siri does already, although it's to early to be sure. Apple stood still these last 4 years. All I can hope for is that they have been developing amazing technology behind the curtains or I'll never believe they'll be the phone company ever again.

Apple mistake is ever using Samsung for parts, but when a company like Samsung has a world monopoly they have to be used. Other companies make just as nice screens, but they cannot do the volume. So, back to the beast they go. Samsung screens are nothing special they are the same as other competitors OLED. Sony cameras, sure does Apple manufature cameras? nope, all phone compaies have to do taht even Nokia, it's not like Apple is the only one who has to get parts from other manufactures. Samsung does not have the gold stanard, that is just your opinion.

Apple will frog hop them and then Sams will frog hop back, its what makes this all fun. You might not be old enough, but this is Sega vs NES all over again.

AAPL gained $$ after this announcement. What does it mean?:D
Cook & Greed are going to pay more dividends to greedy shareholders instead Cook & Greed have to pay more tax. Makes shareholders even more greedy and so they're buying more greedy shares. That's good for Cook & Greed so shares go up.

Same way I feel about using iOS. I hate seeing that cluster **** of apps on the screen. Makes me cringe everytime I use due to how archaic and boring it is.

I care about functionality and ease of use. Our IT dept. has three times as many people to support Android devices over iOS.

What is the obsession with moving the home button to the back of the phone!! Sounds stupid to me. Otherwise looks like a nice phone.

Samsung mobile division lost millions, how did market share help them. Based on this logic one could basically say the s8 is just another iteration of the s6, recycling old ideas with some new tech thrown in.
I don't want to help my technology vendor.

I want my technology vendor to help me!

The company that spends its' money taking risks and advancing the envelope helps me.

If they spent all the money getting better and inventing awesome new never-before seen things for me to buy, rather than keeping hundreds of billions idle in the bank, so much the better. For me!

So if I understand correctly the Samsung S8+ is the same size as the iPhone 7+ but has a 6.2" screen versus 5.5"?
That's impressive.
Though I don't think it will happen, Apple had better not ONLY release a Mark IV iPhone 6 this year.

The problem with this frog hop is that Apple doesn't manufacture its own tech, but Samsung does. Even if the iPhone 8 will be fantastic, Samsung wins too because the most expensive parts inside the iPhone 8 will be from Samsung. It won't take long and the home will belong to Samsung too. They're putting their bixby into fridges, tv's and washing machines and develop their own software along using Googles. When they are on pair with google, they'll dump google. Apple can't win this race imo.

Thanks Samsung, my portfolio grew again today. Baaahhhaaaaa.

And I will never buy anything for my home that is made my Samsung. So there.

Nope.

I stated that a large group of people I socialize with is locked into the proprietary and closed iMessage.

Having access to iMessage would be good for me socially but I have never been able to justify the high cost, low functionality, and relatively poor reliability of iOS hardware or the non-Mac ecosystem. Especially since I need my phone for work.

Android has been killing iOS in the segment that Apple invented for many years. In hardware, software, and ecosystem. And price! And sales! And penetration!! Why does that not worry anyone?

I don't personally see that trend reversing until Apple takes every accountant who is milking Steve's ideas for profit and puts them on the 10, 5, and 2 program. (Take 10 minutes to tell them they have 5 minutes to pack 2 boxes and GTFO.)

I mentioned the other factoids to let you know that I actually an OG supporter of Apple: I have nearly 20 years of either believing in the company and platform or (more recently) wanting to believe in it.

Apple is killing it in the profits. So in terms of who makes money, Apple is in the lead and Samsung is second. No one else makes any money doing it: The phone market Apple has been the lead in for so long - high end phones - is under attack from Android? It doesn't seem that way.

You then go on to say Apple are being beaten on price? Of course their competitors will release cheaper phones! But their competitors aren't making any money... great strategy! And things are weighted in their competitors favour because the non-Apple brands don't have to pay to maintain an OS / ecosystem.

Look at what's happing with Google Play and the App Store - more money is spent by far on the App Store, meaning more developers make more high quality software for Apple customers to enjoy. More money, even though more people have Android phones.

Take these things into account and also remember Android runs on essentially every non-iPhone smartphone out there. Suddenly you realise Android is basically synonymous for 'non-Apple'.

In your view, for Apple to be successful you want them to sell more iPhones than all of their competitors combined?

Google "Apple rips off braun designs" ,

if we are gonna live in glass houses. ..

Oh come on. Not even the same thing. If you are going to design a phone, don't take someone else's idea and make the same phone. Apple didn't rip off Braun to make more radiators.

If you're so sure of yourself that Apple is going to be the next BB, why aren't you shorting APPL?
You know that I am not short AAPL?

Apple could have a change of heart and hire a visionary who would finally start to spend some of the 0.x Trillion dollar cash hoard on some much-needed disruptive innovation.

Or they could keep on doing what they're doing: Charging more for less, shafting professional users, removing functionality, fielding also-ran products, and milking their rabidly loyal and staggeringly myopic user base.

Each of those strategies has an outcome and I don't own a crystal ball. (It was made by Samsung so it was recalled.)

But I can tell you that I am not long AAPL.

To be honest, I try not to do so too. But it's getting hard not too. They do make good tv's, fridges, phones and you name it. Even the iPhone 8 will be half a Samsung, lol

Well he's right. Our Ive has taken a good look at Braun. If Braun were Apple they'd sued, lol

If someone thinks the iPhone 8 will put this phone to shame they are dreaming. At best you can hope the bezels are close to being as slim, but even that would be a stretch.

Apple is killing it in the profits. So in terms of who makes money, Apple is in the lead and Samsung is second.
Why does everyone care how profitable their vendor is?

You are the one paying for those high margins and lack of innovation, after all.

Would you hire a plumber that way?

"This guy charges double and wears a $20,000 watch, but installs second-rate toilets. He is very successful so I gave him all our money." If that is your approach, PM me your number any time you need home improvement work done.

How about the vendor that spends every last dollar trying to make a better product, so they have nothing left over at the end and are barely still solvent? And the product does more and costs less?

Just thinking out loud here.

iPhone 8 will top it, I know it.
Not really, Apple is probably now in a scramble trying to figure out how to market features that don't even begin to touch this to make them look better than they are. I really think that if it works properly, the Samsung Dex feature could be the killer feature.

To be fair, the screen is amazing and has different saturation settings. The display on "basic" mode was rated the most color-accurate ever, so you can't say that all "there" phones are nothing special. When Apple releases an "oversaturated" Samsung-made OLED display for the next iPhone, will you be complaining about that?

Of course not!!! It'll be on an iPhone, so it'll be the most vibrant screen ever.
