The iPhone is using the same battery tech! I thought you were in IT?

If you're attempting to belittle me, fail, you don't know me, so let's move on. Yes, I know what they are - I am not your average internet hive-minded goober. Lithium polymer cells have been used in phones right back since the Ericsson T28 - I recall that phone & battery very clearly - aluminium panel inside with the Ericsson hologram on it:

So yep, I'd sincerely hope - being an electronics engineer (when did I say "IT"? I am, but didn't state that) I would know this, and I do... wouldn't you?

1375 posts on Macrumors forums about a fake iPhone from Samsung.

Near-single-digit market penetration in every category.

No world-changing announcements in 10 years.

CEO forfeiting his bonus due to poor sales.

Yeah no Apple is doing fine and nobody is worried.
Don't worry about CEO, he will get a whopping bonus this year. Almost 6 record breaking years of revenue, with Apple taking 90% if the industry profits. Apple is doing fine. Btw the iPhone 6 was a world changer. which talking points do you prefer? There's enough to go around.

iPhone 6 changed the world of iPhone lovers.

The rest of us (most smartphone users) had had access to that size and functionality for years.

I remember palpable surprise when it came out because it was Apple playing catch-up.

The only fail is the stupid video you posted

I remember surprise when it came out because the competition was playing catch up and still are. It's like saying an 18 wheeler is better than a Ferrari because it's bigger.

Unfortunately this conversation is like so many others, where broad strokes are used to support general statements.

you were saying about generalizations?

At least if you're gonna try to cal me out make sure youre response ding to whatbwas written. The truck is missing the cargo. That's not an 18 wheeler. Deflections.
Reframing. Just keep changing your definitions until you find some narrow enough to prove what you knew all along.

Like how they spent all morning apologizing to the world for their computers sucking and for having hung their professional users out to dry for 1,500 days. (Fifteen hundred -- not a typo!)

I bet you have a great excuse for that too. And an explanation as to why they are on track and haven't changed at all from the hard-charging world-changing company they were 10 years ago.

I am actually interested to find out where you put the goalposts that allows you to frame the "we're sorry we stopped developing the products and just kept soaking you for full price on the old products" Apple as being no different from the "One more thing" Apple.

Moving the goalposts, common around here. Man up, your analogy was flawed.

i dont have to justify anything, and you are free to move on to windows and android instead of the hyperbole that is continually posted. Can't be bitter about what you can't control.

Apple users always say that about Windows and Android. As someone who uses a mix of platforms, I have to say that the supposed prevalence of malware is an Apple scare tactic. Common sense works surprisingly well as anti-virus protection.

Anyway, I hope the S8 sells like mad! Push Apple to do even better. Only competition drives innovation.
Most people that I know that have pCs and androids do so because they want to save money.
!00% of my friends that have done that have viruses and ads and malware and most have no idea
what to do about it.
One thing I can say about Apple products is that I don't have to know what to do about that stuff because
I don't have to deal with it.
I like tech and I like competition, doesn't mean I have to buy the competitions problems though.

I have never got any virus on any previous android device. Guess it's like with anything it depends what you are doing and where you are looking.

S8 should sell millions i'm sure. I think if the iphone 8 doesn't have a bigger screen then the S8/S8 plus is a great option for even apple users.

Beautiful phone! The issue with Samsung phones is that they reduplicate all of Google's efforts. Now you will have two "assistants" on the phone to go with your two email clients, your two web browsers, your two calendars, etc.

This new Samsung phone looks solid. Let's hope there are no issues ala the 7 - however, the big handicap is the Android OS and application environment. I used to be a big Android fan -- but after moving to iOS with iPhone 6 I could never go back. iOS is far smoother and I feel more advanced and no where fragmented. Second the applications are of higher quality.

So the hardware could be great - but its handicapped by the Android OS/Apps and it lacks the integration into a larger ecosystem (e.g., Mac desktop/laptop and tvOS, and iPad.)

What is fist edgeless?
It is obviously a typo, which u r trying to use to discredit my ststement, which won't work.

No. Samsung copied Apple even with their amoled displays. They have a time machine which they use to go into the future and see what the iPhone looks like. Then they come back to our time and put it all on their phones before Apple.
I'm talking about design & yes Aple has patients b4 samsung using oled. Samsung doesn't own oled.

It didn't catch fire - but with Samsung being its own greatest enemy, it didn't have to. I've had the S8+ for a while now and I'm about to sell it. The problem is, as always with Samsung, that the phone is slow. It'll run smoothly for a few hours after a reboot only to turn glacial afterwards. Lag all over the place, aggressive RAM management, unnecessary crap that can't be disabled (Bixby springs to mind - completely useless but bound to a hardware keys).

I think my iPhone 7 Plus looks ancient compared to the S8+, but it still runs circles around it in terms of consistency and speed. No matter how great the Samsung phones look, inside they're still crappy.

Also, mine is already a month behind in terms of security patches. Same thing there: no real advance, same crap as every year.

Weird I have my s8 running for about 15 days now without rebooting it and it runs snappy.

I just restarted it and it's actually lagged for the first few minutes as it was loading things in memory I guess.

The launch price of the base model Galaxy S8 was $720.

Given the two years of system and security updates provided by Samsung, that makes the annual cost of owning an S8 $360.

The launch price of the base model of the new iPhone 11 Pro is $999.

Given the five years of system and security updates provided by Apple, that makes the annual cost of owning an 11 Pro $200.

Necro'd thread, interesting. Good insight into thinking (and still wrong at that) over two years ago.

Are you saying that a day after the 2 year release point, the s8 ceases to function? Web browser shuts down, camera stops working? Cant send texts.. is that what you are getting at? Or.... does it carry on as it has done for the last 2 years... right as rain doing its thing.. regardless of what you think?

Indeed. What a deeply confused understanding of phone valuation. The S8 was and is a great phone for almost anyone. Why would someone buy a phone they can't enjoy until they get a new OS some years in the future anyway?
