If one wants general tech news there are plenty of places to go - Engadget, cnet the. Verge, Ars Technica, The Next Web, BGR - just to name a few. Why would someone come to MacRumors for general tech news? The only reason it's is front page is because it's Samsung and will generate page views. Same thing will happen tomorrow when the new Galaxy is announced, because MR knows that thread will be flamewar heaven and easily get 500+ posts.

Oh man. I'm putting money on 650+ posts. You're 100% right about general tech news. Aside from Apple, Samsung is the only one to move the needle on MR is the mobile arena. Just like MS does on the PC side. Getting the popcorn ready.:D

Meh...I'll still stick to my non smart Movado's.. Hopefully the iWatch will get me to switch.

Plenty of people cried foul when Apple updated to the iPad 4 so soon after the 3. The forums were full of people whining about Apple

I don't understand how people see that Apple are impervious to criticism. If anything they are more so.

End of the day technology advances at an alarming rate, always buy the product for now and don't worry about what might come.

Exactly this. There's people in this thread acting like there wasn't an uproar when Apple did it. There was.

That's what I mean. You have to get Youview or Sky (never heard of those here in the U.S. by the way) if you want to control without IR. It limits your choices. Most things use IR. I wish my iPhone had an IR transmitter on it so I could use that instead of the universal remote I keep losing.

You view and sky are basically the equivalent of TV channel providers (there are a couple more, but that's irrelevant). Most people have one or the other, or one of the other providers, so therefore not having to buy any additional things.

You can always pick up an IR transmitter for your iOS device anyway. I have one. They're cheap enough.

iPod.

And sadly it's been left to die by apple atm.

Device, YES. The concept of a portable music player? Far from it..Since the iPod apple has launched the iPhone and that phone has sold incredibly well over the years (50+ million in the last quarter alone)..A lot of the folks listen to itunes music on their phones, in addition to free and paid streaming music.

Comming back to the copy" issue..Just put yourself in the general public's position..What are folks to think when the timeline following 5s launch reads:

* Samsung executive claims, 64 bit processor comming soon
* Samsung claims Fingerprint recognition comming soon
* Samsung all set to launch 2 varients of Galaxy S5. One that is supposed to be plastic and the other more premium probably metal.
* Samsung looking to launch the Galaxy S5 in three colors, WHITE, BLACK and GOLD..
* Samsung incorporates a two tone flash..

No wonder Samsung spent close to 14 billion in marketing last year to convince the public that it is innovative and brings "the next big thing" every few months ;) ...

http://bgr.com/2013/11/28/samsung-2013-marketing-budget/

Full disclosure: If the s5 is like what the rumours claim it to be (2k display, large battery, note 3 internals (Chip and memory) ) then i'll be first to ditch my current samsung device (GN3, with which i am not very happy) and lap the baby up to go along my IP5s..I just see the events as they have unfolded to be ammusing (they way samsung has slowly incorporated features that the iPhone 5s has, and how samsung fans are claiming that it wasnt the iPhone 5s but the motorolla Atrix (or whatever it was called) that pursuaded samsung to bring finger print technology..and gold on a phone has been done before bla bla bla..Why not just laugh it out and keep on enjoying the device for what its worth ? :)

Lets just admit, that it wasnt this

nokiagold.jpg

But the huge lines and waiting for this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqvDnhVNGUk

That pursuaded samsung (along with others) to launch a gold S5 and gold flagships..

Simply amazing that a thread like this not only goes on for 12 pages - but is a rehash of every other Samsung/Apple thread on this forum. Actually - it's not amazing. Predictable and sad.

Stop being a snob. It's interesting to see what other companies release. The way I see it this is a tech site, period.

It's called MACrumors for a reason!!! If I wanted all of this other crap I'd goto verge or engadget. Apparently Samsung and Google are also lining the pockets of Eric Slivka as well now.

If you want to be literal like that - then I guess they shouldn't be posting stories about anything EXCEPT Mac. So no iPod, iPhone and iPad stories either. Nothing about iOS. Afterall - it's MACRumors.. right?

Oh god...

I hope you realize I was being completely sarcastic. I think it's ridiculous to get "pissy" over MR posting stories they feel are important or ones that drive readership. That's their decision. No one forces anyone to read the story nor to post incessantly (in thread after thread) about the fact that not every story is "about" Apple.

The Samsung Gear watches will be great... about 6 months AFTER the iWatch comes out and they know what to copy.

I think if you went back to the post I originally replied to it would make more sense. And I absolutely agree, the tech advances quickly. Buy what you like now because there is always something better in the pipeline to follow it.

My bad, apparently I took too little time doing that math. Yeah, that is annoying. I just remembered that that was when they added Lightning to it, so at least there's some justification. It would be bad for Apple to have a Lightning iPhone when the iPad uses 30-pin. So it wasn't planned very well.

There was also a processor bump too, which actually helped the performance with the Retina screen. The Lighting connector made things uniform. I think the front camera was upgraded too, but performance wise the bump to the A6X made a noticeable performance improvement.

Not sure weather these are good or not? Because of the OS, granted not many, but some will be hacking the Galaxy Gear's Android OS like nothing.

But as a product, this is an overall MUCH better proposition from Samsung. Battery life still needs to be improved though. And it's also good to see it's all integrated into the body of the unit, so you can buy watch straps for it at will. I think if I wanted a smart watch I would get the cheeper of these two, depending on cost and if they are water proof/ splash proof?

Hmm reading the last few pages I see this thread has resorted to the usual dog c*ap on Mac Rumors. Funny how people claim that Samsung will change it's design and copy what ever Apple come up with, yet IMO Samsung's design is pretty good, and I would actually like to see if Apple can match it.

I think everyone is surprised/upset that Samsung is releasing a sequel so quickly; I'm not. Samsung will keep releasing watches until their satisfied with the end product. Samsung is not forcing me or anyone else to buy their product. How many of you are mad that you bought a Galaxy Gear for your Samsung device? Yet most people criticize them for doing so.
But lets look at Apple for a second. The ipod is dead, the ipod touch hasn't really been touched in over a year, Apple tv is just a hobby, the iPads have received only incremental updates to the original formula and the iphone basic design doesn't departure from the original much. The desktop computer lineup is just left alone for huge periods of time while over 95% of the computer population don't need or what to spend over $3000 for a commputer.
Apple is going to have to adapt to change quicker especially without Steve Jobs vision to guide them. I think Apple/Tim Cook is trying too hard to make their iWatch perfect and is the reason for the delay. I bet their struggling over features, cost and their "watching" the market.
I personally believe the smartwatch will not succeed because of price and we aleady have smartphones. I don't want to have to worry about charging my smartwatch. And I honestly don't want to wear a watch during my waking hours. Since I already wear glasses give me prescription smartglasses without the camera and the ability of receiving alerts and making calls. And since I take my glasses off every night that would be the perfect time to charge them.
I think wearing a watch is a step backwards. Smartglasses especially for people wearing glasses is a step forward.

I think the main problem with what Samsung has done is they must have known the first Smart Watch was useless, they admitted as much themselves, what would have been the harm in waiting a few extra months to release what they have released now?

Maybe they were worried Apple may have released something and they may have been accused of copying if they waited too long, I think no other company in existence has ever been accused of this as much as Samsung has, justified or not.

As regards to Apple I agree with alot of what you said, the iPod is pretty much dead, they have stopped caring as sales are in freefall, they really should step up with Apple TV as there is so much potential there, with regards to their computer line it's not really their fault as they are at the mercy of Intel really.

Their smartwatch whether real or not needs to be thought through properly although they don't want another Guns 'N Roses Chinese Democracy problem, or if they release something too quickly they will receive a s***storm much like Samsung has.

I agree with you about Tim Cook, I'm not saying he's bad I just wish he'd stop saying we will be releasing more exciting things this year etc... and not releasing anything different really, Apple have so much potential I hope people don't lose faith.

the thing is, i hate wearing a watch, so i'm pretty sure unless it'll pour me a beer on demand, i won't be buying anyone's watch. i freed myself of time-offering wristwear when i started buying cell phones.

make a better phone, let the accessory makers handle the watches.

That has to be one of the craziest comments ive ever heard on MacRumours - And thats saying something!

No, crazy comments would be from the people who routinely defend a company like Samsung or Google who has made their living copying other peoples products and never coming up with anything on their own.
