It's hard to be an Apple site when Apple are not doing anything.

I mean, they have to put something up here so we can argue about it :)

Otherwise it's just going to be full of speculation about the next iPad, speed/battery/camera etc etc. that's hardly going to keep us going for a whole year

Quality, not quanity is surely important here?

If Apple can make a fitness band/watch with the same features as Samsung's i.e. Pedometer, stand alone mp3, gyroscope, and HR monitor with a GPS, I am buying Apple's

I hope this lights a fire under Apple's arse and release a fully featured device instead of Samsung's first gen Gear

Outside of an Apple forum, I doubt many people think that Samsung is copying a non existent Apple watch.

You cannot copy a product on which apple has had no disclosure..Apple does not comment on rumours..If all one can accuse samsung of coppying Macrumours, 9to5mac and other rumour websites's impression of an iWatch :)..I find this all very ammusing along with other side's claim that samsung's choice of introducing 2 different phones at different price points, fingerprint-ID, 3 colors (Gold, white, black) just something they thought out on their own without lookint to see how these things did on the 5s..

No, this is about two things:

1) Samsung *is* a very significant competitor of Apple. That's a fact.
2) It's a hot topic and he knows it.

10 pages of forum posts = a lot of ad revenue.

I think you hit the nail on the head... it's topical so people will argue about it.

I need to start visiting reddit more often as this is a business, not a place for rumours. I've used it for so long, making it hard to quit but there's more and more Samsung news here. Less and less apple rumours (more facts from leaks TBH). Much of the oldschool fun is gone IMO...

If ipad 1 sucked as hard and got so many returns as the gear, then they came out with ipad 2 5 months later, fainbois would throw fits.

You must have seen it as rest of world 100, apple 0 when they came out with the ipod and iphone. Release something good when the tech is ready, if you try and jump the gun before the tech is ready, you just make a piece of crap nobody wants.

So I am guessing you don't know about the massive returns of the rMBP's with yellow screens.

To be quite honest I think Apple is enjoying all these new smart watches coming out as it gives them a chance to see what works and what doesn't.

Apple is never early to party but they sure are noticed when they walk into the room.

Oh my God! Do you truly believe that? I mean seriously? Are you going to choose to totally ignore the YEARS that wearable health monitoring devices have been available, and accuse Samsung of copying an Apple rumour? You need to seriously read up on tech before posting stuff like this, because it just makes you look arrogant and not very knowledgeable of tech and that you are blatantly jumping on the hipster blame Samsung bandwagon.

Christ, I remember a Casio watch that could take your pulse back in the 80's!

If you are right, why wasn't it on the first gear? It's just only after the talk of Apple getting into it that Samsung did it too. Are you naive to think that Samsung wouldn't pay attention to that? They are underhanded, as the fake comments posts scandal showed.

I would not get a Samsung phone or tablet again, if I had to switch to android, HTC is the way to go.

Ha, Ha, Looks DULL as Usual

It Looks like Their Phones before i-Phone Debuted.

Apple is not concerned with if something is completely new, but they take something that exists and make it a consumer grade product that people actually want to use. For instance, the computer was "decades old" before Apple made one. The difference is they took something that was institutional and made is personal. They did that in a way that was never done before and that's their value.
I agree 100%, you can have all the ideas you want but without outstanding implementation they mean very little. That's why "Samsung copies Apple's rumors" is ridiculous: the idea is nothing special and even if true that they took it from Apple they are not copying anything specific, just an abstract idea. When they will copy Apple's successful implementation down to the details it will be another story.

But yet when apple released the iPad 4 literally months after launching the iPad 3 that's acceptable then?

Sometimes I wish I didn't own any apple products because the pure arrogance and the cultish behavior of some apple users take the fun out of it.

"Literally months" - oh the dramas of it, you make it sound like it happens all the time - I detect some hypocrisy. BTW, I wasn't aware that an exception in the release schedule of a product is the same thing[rolls eyes], especially when there was a very good reason to align release schedules.

Sorry your fun has been removed, perhaps stop taking criticisms of a company's decisions so personally. I wasn't attacking you, sadly you can't same the same about me.

I just wished Apple weren't always the ones to show how its done...

They were not. They have copied the best off of the HTC Touch Pro and Samsung Omnia phones. Link. HTC's TouchFLO/TouchFLO 3D was a major thing back then. HTC really made out of WinMo a candy.

Remember. Apple is never first at anything. Apple does things better than the rest because they usually wait to see how first attempts fail. The whole "omg they all copying us!" campaign started with IIRC the release of Mac OS X 10.4, mocking some *rumored* features of the next Windows (the features which btw MS failed to deliver). Since then, the campaign went grassroots and expanded.

Whats with all this "Scamsung" rubbish? Cant you have a civilized discussion?

You just inadvertently answered your own question: Scamsung = Rubbish = Trash.

Yes, I am fully capable of civilized discussion; my other comment wasn't uncivilized.

Funny thing about what you posted, those were prototypes, but you didn't post any image that includes Scamsung's blatant copying of Apple. But I did.

Scamsung lost in court to Apple, and was ordered to pay $1.05 Billion US. The judge vacated part of the judgement, so Scamsung had to pay $600 Million US. Somewhat recently, after the post-appeal judgement retrial for that other money, Scamsung was ordered to pay Apple another $290 Million US, for an almost $900 Million US total.

So that begets the glaringly obvious question:

If your prototype image mattered, which it doesn't, then why didn't Scamsung use that for their defence? Why didn't Scamsung win? Because what you posted doesn't matter.

Conversely, the image I provided was used in court, that was part of why Scamsung was ordered to pay Apple $1.05 Billion US, then $600 Million US + $290 Million US. Scamsung copied Apple.

Let me just say this again: SCAMSUNG.

Reports say they sold just under 50,000. Not six.

Again, I don't want one, heck I don't even wear ANY watch, but such comments belong in the school playground :(

I heard that report. Really 50,000 and six is about the same for Samsung. And there are other reports that that 50,000 doesn't count returns or it might be a count of sales into channels and not through to consumers. So we don't really know if there were really 50,000 folks walking around with that watch. And we certainly don't know if anyone is still wearing it on a regular basis.

The main point is that Samsung, who in the phone area counts its customers in the 100s of millions, will not care if 10,000 customers are slightly more annoyed because a new watch came out five months later instead of an "appropriate" one year later.

There is a possibility that one will be released tomorrow at the unpacked event.

If they get Tizen phone out that will be impressive. But could it possibly be a $500+ flagship phone? Could the OS really be ready for prime time like that?

Sorry, I refuse to have a discussion with someone who thinks its "witty/funny/amusing/clever" (delete as applicable) to use the word "Scamsung" instead of "Samsung".

"Got my ass handed to me"? I'm presuming this is some kind of American slang.

I wouldn't expect anything less from someone that alters a companies name to try and make it sound amusing such as "Scamsung" and "Crapple".

Samsung spent $14 billion for marketing costs in 2013. Apple's budget was just north of $1 billion. I would state that it's pretty clear who advertises more.

Right, but is that Samsungs entire advertising budget for ALL the things it makes worldwide? Because if so then you cannot make that comparison as Apple doesn't make ships or washing machines etc etc.

hahahah how ironic that on your list of results it's FULL of articles and threads on how to make your Android device LOOK LIKE iOS haha.

Anyway of your list of results, this article pretty much debunks your crazy accusation, because it IS crazy to accuse Android of copying iOS, I have only seen it the other way round, iOS has blatantly copied Android and that has also been very well documented.

Scamsung copied Apple. Scamsung didn't use [your] prototype images for its defence because it doesn't matter. Scamsung was ordered to pay Apple almost $1 Billion US for copying Apple. I rest my case.

I think you'll find that image was used in court proceedings.

Anyway, I couldn't care less who copied who! Everyone copies everyone! We all as consumers win in the end. The fact that some people such as yourself take it so personally I find quite worrying!

And what if HTC launch a smart watch this week with health monitoring? Or what about all the other smart watches with health monitoring? Are they ALL too copying Apple? Because by your logic they MUST be, or is this blind accusation specially reserved for Samsung only?
You are the naive one because you somehow believe Samsung has developed and launched a product in a month or 2 because of a rumour about Apple!

I am sure Samsung looks at the ENTIRE market, NOT just Apple, you know, considering any Apple Smart watch does not even exist yet.
But wee have smart watch health fitness devices from so many now. To accuse Samsung of copying Apple only as opposed to moving in the same direction as everyone else is really laughable.

As for why it wasn't on the first model? Battery life I would guess? And I bet Apple's rumoured device will be just the same, it will have crap battery life to begin with which Apple will enhance by realising what a smart watch is capable of actually doing.

And then again, I will laugh my rear end off if Apple do launch a product based on all the mock ups of band type devices we have seen, because then Samsung's Gear will be one of the few devices that WON'T look like an iWatch haha.

Well they haven't though have they. HTC has made their devices look different, as opposed to Samsung being a copycat. Samsung are proven as copycats and they have been proven to be underhand with forum comment faking and review faking. Also it's not a month or 2, the health stuff for Apple dates back to March 2013. Nice try though. Also there is an Apple smart watch in existence, just not released yet. There's no indication that HTC or Nokia and many others are making a smart watch, so not everyone is moving into that market. If they did, then that would change my mind and I would own up to being wrong. Until then, I'm sticking with my opinion.
