All the phones look the same now (even the iPhone). Its a mature technology - there will be some cosmetic differences but a sheet of glass is the look for all of them.
Every time someone moans "boring, they haven't redesigned the iPhone", what are they going to redesign it to? Nobody else is doing anything radically new and different either, it's true they're all pretty much the same but for a few cosmetic differences.

The chip makes no difference at all in real world performance. The Note 9 beat the XS Max in Ram management.

If all you do is email, messaging or Facebook I’d agree. When you want to do something more the difference is noticeable. My XS Max will, for example, render video or edit photos significantly faster than either my Note 9 or S10.

Except that lightning is proprietary whereas usb-c is standard. You can get usb-c to audio from anyone not just Samsung.

Apple stopped including the dongle when Tim realised people keep losing them and he can charge 2000% markup with no competition.

Proprietary yet widely supported by numerous manufacturers. Last time I looked there were more Lightning equipped headphones than USB-C headphones.

2000%, huh? Is that why Apple sells both a USB-C to 3.5mm or Lightning to 3.5mm for the sky-high price of only $9.00?

Great looking device, makes the iPhone look ancient.

No truer words spoken. Proper rounded corners, not the 1980s throwback Apple design. Bet Samsung were snickering behind their hands when they handed over those screens to Apple.

I'm sure these screens won't be offered to Apple anytime soon, and that's sad. But Apple doing its rounded corners is tragic.

I've been trying to hold out until the X design is gone, but 4 years is the New-Cook, and my current phone won't be compatible with Catalina, much less iOS 13 and we've see what happens in the betas - you can't see stuff created with the new OS on the old OS.

Only $9?

Sure although the majority of users couldn’t care less about rendering video or editing photos. The performance in Apps and Games already reached its limit. It’s lost 20 seconds to render a video that’s going to influence ones smartphone choice.

they diss apple for removing the headphones jack and now they did, fools

Yeah.......4 years later. Quite smart actually. They let Apple get the hits and when it has become something that the customer base is more familiar with, they follow and do it, with much less pushback.

Is this still missing faceid? Is it still android?
What else do you expect it to run? Windows?

Lose costumers to where? Phones with headphone jacks? Where? Aren’t they all “jackless” nowadays?
It doesn’t have to be the alternative with jack. The argument was that the jack was the reason to get Samsung. Now that’s it’s gone. There is no particular reason to buy Samsung. Hence, losing customers. I hope you can understand this logic.

They made money in the few years but lose customers forever after.

From a stupid marketing campaign? The only people that would hold a grudge against a company for making fun of Apple are die hard Apple fans. That's a small market.

Most people don't read MacRumors or are phone enthusiasts.

Do you think people don't drink Pepsi because Pepsi makes fun of Coke? Most people aren't as easily influenced as you may be by a companies marketing division.

Where did I say it would influence someone’s choice? I’m just stating a fact that Apples processors are faster and more advanced.

Not everyone games on their PCs and requires high-end video cards. But for those that DO they have the option of getting such a machine.

On Android you don’t have that choice because developers don’t bother making Apps that push the envelope of performance. There’s no market since Android flagships are a tiny fraction of all devices sold. There’s also no market for tablet Apps on Android since nobody really makes high-end tablets in any quantity that might get a developer to invest in high-end Apps.

The long delays to software updates is a legitimate issue. Samsung is well known to take months. For OS vulnerabilities/bug patching it is a genuine concern.

Agreed, smart phone prices are far too inflated.
Security updates are monthly or there abouts. It’s the OS updates that take longer. Even my husband’s note 8 is on the July security patch.

Samsung uses usb-c not a proprietary connector. Get your dongle from anyone you want.
Dongles are bad, mkay. Let’s ask what the popular opinion is on the Macbook Pro excluding usb-a. As you say, you can get your c to a dongles from anyone you want. Does that make it all ok? No, it doesn't, right?

Not only the jack... The screen, the SPen, the battery life, Expandable Storage, were and are still good reasons to get Samsung.

“Android flagships are a tiny...” Not going to even answer anymore after this clueless post.

Really foolish to put the power button on the left side. Most people are right handed.

I must be in the minority cause I use my phone with my left hand.

But regarding the Note, looks nice I might get one as a secondary device.

Fair enough but a “month or so” still is not great for security patches. Likewise Android version support is fairly poor compared to Apple. I find it impressive that iPhone 5s through current models receive OS updates all simultaneously while Android (including Samsung) support for back models is more limited and often very delayed. I admit, I only own one android phone but that has been my experience.
[doublepost=1565234854][/doublepost]I do not understand the appeal of the new gesture enabled S-pen. I get that the Note has a big display but not so large that hands free operation is a likely scenario. Maybe when used in Dex mode or something?

Samsung updates their OS roughly once a month and is usually on the latest patch level. Security-wise, they’re top notch. Now for version upgrades, that‘s a different story. It‘ll be roughly March 2020 until the current Note line-up gets the next version of Android. Usually not a big deal as Google is rather slow in terms of adding new break-through features. Especially since the launch of its own Pixel line - many of the new features tend to be reserved for those phones. But even with that - Samsung has been very good with version upgrades as well. They‘ve updated everything back to the S8 to Pie in early spring this year. Considering the fact that Google didn‘t release pie to the OEMs until late October 2018, that really wasn‘t bad. I mean Apple runs several months of public testing before the final version upgrade is ready and only updates once a year as well.

Android‘s (well-deserved) reputation of lacking prompt version updates mostly pertains to the gazillion of ultra-cheap entry-level phones. Those, of course, are the biggest part of the Android market and when you read that „only 11% of all Android phones are running 9.0“, it‘s those phones that drag down the numbers. If you look at how many S8, S9 and S10 phones run the latest version of Android, it‘s close to 100%.

Companies like Samsung, Sony etc. have been updating their mid- and upper tier models at roughly the same pace as Apple for several years now.

I don't think his statement "Android flagships are a tiny fraction of all devices sold" is too far off.

In a world where $900 Android flagships exist... the average selling price of Android phones is $200-$250

How is that possible?

Well... it would appear that the bulk of Android phones sold are, in fact, cheaper models... not flagships.

Thus his earlier statement is valid.

You gotta remember that Android phones come in all shapes and sizes... and prices.

For every one $900 Samsung Galaxy Note sold... there are probably twenty $100 Android phones sold in China and India from companies you've never heard of. And the same is true in many other countries around the world.

BTW... there's nothing wrong with this. It's just how the Android market is.

There are over a billion Android phones sold every year. But with an average selling price below $250... the percentage of flagships must be tiny.

I can’t believe you guys get so excited about this. What is so revolutionary here? It looks...decent? But doesn’t run iOS. Meh. Honestly I like the look of my iPhone X better (with black silicone Apple case).
its only a phone relax.......
