I will follow the Red-Green show wisdom and experience; I'll duct-tape two phones together. This would be more durable!

No, for two valid reasons:
1) we, those who love to post here, do not have the buying power to pay for it
2) we, who love so much to post here, are  fan boys

No us
It’s probably mostly Apple fans here but it’s known there are plenty of Samsung and cross platform users here too.

Why does posting here preclude one from being able to afford an expensive device?

I wouldn't be shocked if Apple has at least two dozen prototypes of a folding phone similar to this one in their labs. And passed on brining it to market for a variety of reasons.
Engineer to Tim Cook:"Our foldable phone lasts twice as long as Samsung's". Cook: "And how long does Samsung's last?" Engineer: "Two days".

Am I the only one who still doesn't see the point? SG Fold is a solution looking for a problem, instead created it's own problems in the process.
Nope, apparently 26 others appear to have myopia.
Not sure where people get that idea from, it's the same solution as the first foldable phones that came out and they also had problem with the hinges.
Come on man you have to try harder than that to pretend you don't know what problem(s) it's looking to solve.

I’m excited to see this tech in the wild. We need boundaries to get pushed. Assumptions to get challenged. I really hope it is a success.

No always good to be first. This is a perfect example on why other companies, i.e Apple, wait till they can get things right.

I have absolutely no interest in owning a folding phone. It just seems like you'd have a bad phone and a bad tablet in one device. Utterly pointless.

Who wants to bet, that this foldable technology, is also a step forward and an excuse to start making thicker phones again...

Maybe true, but don't forget that nowadays, it's all about "being first", with whatever consequences this may have...

I believe they aready have such a similar prototype - I am pretty sure I read it somewhere...
They aren’t silly enough to actually bring it to market though

The point seems pretty obvious to me. I wish Apple still had the balls to try stuff like this. I look at the Apple rumor roadmap and I think my Iphone X will be with me for a while longer.

Interesting that it will coming available in September....likely around the same time as the “new” iPhone. One company reaching for the future and taking risks (probably a few too many) and the other pedalling tired old designs. Both totally over-charging!

A thick, compromised and unwieldy phone that turns into a compromised square tablet? Think I’ll pass for now.

Hmmm the iPhone Xl getting thicker a corner at a time

This post is too far down for many to read, and that's no big deal because I don't think I have a lot to offer...

That being said, a flexible / rollable / foldable screen has a lot of potential merit. Some of us remember a mobile phone being in a car bag, then looking like brick, etc. Nearly 30 years later, we have our current and amazing smart phones. It will take time for this tech to become as seamless (no pun intended) and beneficial and refined as what we enjoy now.

I agree that a flexible screen has merit.

I just don’t think it will come from a phone.

Rather, I think flexible screens make more sense on wearables like smart watches and smart glasses (which ironically, don’t get folded much).

I wonder why Samsung didn’t try to make a version that was smaller and unfolded to the size of a large screened smartphone, instead of going from large phone to tablet size? I would think that they could make half the screen really thin, very much like how folding feature phones used to be, so that the overall thickness would be barely more than a standard smartphone.
