What if I declare it as a firearm? Can I check it then?

Probably not. Guns are in locked cases and I gather part of the check is to make sure its not loaded, to include round in chamber. A Gun without ammo is just a hunk of metal.

This phone since you can't remove battery is always loaded as it were.

Guess there will be the a "Samsung owners"-line at airport check-ins in the future then?

With all the cases, skins and similar looking devices out there you will probably be asked to give a detailed presentation of your Samsung phone every time you´re going on a plane. Because better safe than sorry..

It´s probably not a bad thing to buy any other brand than Samsung if you are a frequent flyer right now.. :)

I meant childish (always thought that is what petulance was) but schadenfreude definitely applies. I don't understand why anyone would celebrate a companies failures. How does it affect them?

People perceive Apple as maintaining some degree of moral superiority, while people perceive Samsung as shameless. (Whether those perceptions are accurate is a different matter.)

Banned? Rightfully so!

It seems Samsung rather send people over to exploding phones to see if they can pay the people off to not release their video (how many times have they been successful?) and their practice appears to be along the lines of "see if you can slow him down" just to keep public face, rather than keep the public safe.

Nah, Samsung showed its true colors with these sort of move.
