I just switched to a Galaxy S8+ after only ever owning iPhones. I love it; the OS is stable and fluid. I can't see myself going back to an iPhone.
and when you stop getting updates or if touchwiz annoys you, you can root your device and install a custom rom with the latest security updates and software!

all of this while enjoying the best hardware on a smartphone right now

this is the galaxy s (yes, the first) released in 2010 running lineage os based on android 7.1.2, 2017 software

the iphone 4, latest iphone at the time, is currently running 2013 software (ios 7.1.2)

Thankfully the curved screen is much less pronounced in the newer Galaxy phones. It's more akin to the glass on the sides of the iPhone, which I think is just right. Any chance you've had the opportunity to check out the S8 yet?
I have not. Haven't really cared to. Next time I'm at the mall, I will go to Best Buy.

A lot of touchy iFans in this post today. I hate the fighting about operating systems both are very good neither are perfect. In my experience and I flip back and forth between and iphone 5S and Nexus 6p on the regular and it's pretty simple in my experience. I like ios in that its a way more efficient running operating system needing less, lets just say computing power. I also usually prefer how apps look and run in ios in general as well. With Android I love how much more customizable it is and that its notifications are grouped by app (I know iOs used to at one point), also usually a bit more efficient and quicker to action and I find navigating through the android operating system takes less input actions as well. I think since iOS is the more efficient of the two, and has less fragmentation OS wise your ios device should have a longer usable lifespan. If Apple could implement some of the things Android is capable of it would be the better of the two but until then they both have pros and cons. Hopefully I'm not the only non biased person with this view.

i love the responses here. competition is FANTASTIC. My first iPhone was the 3G, then the 3Gs. After that, i went android until a month ago when i picked up a 256GB iPhone 7 plus (in jet black :) ). My computer has been Mac since 2008, so even when i didn't have an iPhone, i used Mac.

anyways, the last 2 1/2 years i used either the note 4 or Note 5 (since the Note 7 was recalled). I really liked the phone. Not everything about it, but it was a good phone. What i really liked was the ease of use of it. Being able to just drag music, movies and pictures.

While i like the neatness and organized way of iTunes on the iphone, Apple really pisses me off on how they make you jump hoops to move photos to and from the iPhone. Same with pdf files. I found out via google search that i have to use iBooks to be able to put a pdf onto my iPhone, whereas on an Android - it was a simple drag and drop.

i am sure there are some apple worshippers here that will blow this off, but for those that want to do thee types of things quickly, it is a pain in the ass.

other than that, i like the app store much more on apple than on android. The apps seems to be a bit more refined on the iPhone as well.

and some of my pains could be from not using an iPhone in 9 years..

I think Samsung is correct in keeping the 'Note' branding. You will never be more amazed about how forgetful people are.

You mean they weren't doing that before?

Right, like Apple takes the time to do an 8 point, "extreme testing, inside and out, followed by careful inspection by X-ray and the human eye" testing of every battery for every iPhone they sell. WAIT...maybe they do and that's why there are practically none available on release day (or even months after)...

They aren't forgetful...most people are able to let go of some things unlike most of the people here...

"Crikey !! That's a bloody good phone then ain't it"

You'll need huge hands to use it. I'm not one of them.

Do we really have to have Samsung stuff on the front page?
Everybody's eagerly awaiting the iPhones 7s/7s+/Pro, with many rumors swirling about - and this, being Samsung's latest flagship phone, is what the next iPhone will undoubtedly be compared against. So, yeah, reporting on its unveiling seems pertinent (the in-depth review and related announcements should go on SamsungRumors, or some such, not here).

I always get excited when Samsung releases their new flagships. It's cool seeing the new stuff they come up with; even if some are gimmicks. Kinda gives a little insight on what might come to the following year's iPhone.

That said, I always lose my interest fast when using a Galaxy. Android will always kill it for me, no matter how many times people say "But it's SOOOO much better now than it was before!"

Personally; I think Samsung makes good phones. But they'll never be *great* phones until they can develop their own OS for it. And sadly that will probably never happen.

I still don't see the attraction of curved screens.

I checked some of them out, including Samsung, at my local Best Buy recently and the massive color shifting that occurs at the curved edges instantly turned me away. No thanks.

Yeah, the curves don't seem to make for a nice place to perform actions.

6.3" screen. That's bigger than my Kindle Paperwhite.
It's almost as big as the Nexus 7 tablet.
I wonder when screen sizes will reach a peak.

I just switched to Android this year with Galaxy S8+. I agree that it lags from time to time in addition to frequent app crashes. Even my two-year old iPhone 6+ is smoother. But then, the s8+ screen is super duper mega gorgeous. It compensates all the android flaws. I just want to use my s8+ all the time.

As I understand, these are still banned from airplanes. Why bother? Just buy a phone that doesn't explode. Even a Nokia 5190 doesn't explode.

Sensless hate by Apple fans for no reason... is Samsung having more advance phone threatens people now???

I'm sick of waiting. if Apple's next phone isn't dramatically better. I'm switching to Android. I'm an consumer, I will vote with my money instead of fandom.

We don't know how more advanced Samsungs phone is, because their Keynote hasn't taken place yet.

And you're voting of money comment, that's what consumers do every year as it is. No One forces someone to choose what phone manufacturer you want.

Nicest screen on a phone I've ever seen. I noticed lag when I was testing one out at best buy a while back. I was pretty shocked for such a new device but thought it might have been just all the crap on the test device. I like a lot of things about Android but it seems like lag is becoming a bit of an issue again. My 6p lags has some lag now as well.

Wow they are quick to ban a phone that hasn't even been released yet. Go back to bed.

I'm guessing the screen is just longer with less bezel and probably a similar size to recent Note models.

Which apps that you used crashed frequently? I have my S8+ for 2 months and never experienced once an app crashing or phone self-reboot/hanging. Just checked my phone has been up for 23 days now since last reboot and there is no lag (only occasional micro-stutters).

That's one huge phone

Think it is no bigger than Iphone 7 plus. Most probably bit narrower and taller. I think Note8 should the same size as the s8+
