OK yes Apple has three products coming this winter
1 a $1000 (at least) mobile phone
2 a desktop computer that (at least) is $4999
3 an Amazon competitor that costs $349 (more than twice the price)

Can't you see a trend (cough, cough gouging) here?

I was arguing against the idea Apple wasn't innovating or inventing new things.

I get it, it's a great screen. But that's kind of all it is, right? I guess I feel some of the changes Apple makes to it's hardware and software are a bit more tangible than what I see from the Android phone makers. I don't see a ton of competition here and I think Apple has a really strong platform moving forward.

Apple moving forward to where? Their market share has dropped to 15%. In many countries iPhone has been marginalized.

Moving forward, it will be Android fighting Android. iPhone will only be some niche over priced product that caters to a group of diehard fans.

i love the responses here. competition is FANTASTIC. My first iPhone was the 3G, then the 3Gs. After that, i went android until a month ago when i picked up a 256GB iPhone 7 plus (in jet black :) ). My computer has been Mac since 2008, so even when i didn't have an iPhone, i used Mac.

anyways, the last 2 1/2 years i used either the note 4 or Note 5 (since the Note 7 was recalled). I really liked the phone. Not everything about it, but it was a good phone. What i really liked was the ease of use of it. Being able to just drag music, movies and pictures.

While i like the neatness and organized way of iTunes on the iphone, Apple really pisses me off on how they make you jump hoops to move photos to and from the iPhone. Same with pdf files. I found out via google search that i have to use iBooks to be able to put a pdf onto my iPhone, whereas on an Android - it was a simple drag and drop.

i am sure there are some apple worshippers here that will blow this off, but for those that want to do thee types of things quickly, it is a pain in the ass.

other than that, i like the app store much more on apple than on android. The apps seems to be a bit more refined on the iPhone as well.

and some of my pains could be from not using an iPhone in 9 years..

The 7+ is my first iPhone. I can't tell you how PO'd I was when I tried to add my ringtone. I guess people that only use iPhones will never know there's a easier and simpler way of doing things.

Apple has the number one selling phone and tablet every year, along with a great OS, core technologies, ecosystem, and support. If Android vs Android wants to fight for the bottom of the barrel through buy one get one free offers, so be it.

Although I have no intention of owning a non-iPhone, I do appreciate MR reporting on Apple's competition. It allows for good analysis and comparison of Apple's products against the alternatives.
I don't mind them reporting on it, quite the opposite. I don't think it belongs on the front page.

Apple's position has never been stronger.

I don't understand how people can criticise Apple without acknowledging this. It's clear as day. Because Apple won mobile (they have the best customers), Apple is all but assured victory in wearables, health and AR. And the future is in mobile computing devices.

The Apple Watch is slowly but surely gaining in adoption rates while fitness tracker companies are dropping like flies. Come iOS 11, hundreds of millions of ios devices will be equipped for AR, and the resulting pain points will in turn spur demand for AR glasses. Even Microsoft and google are pivoting to the enterprise, which is tantamount to admitting that they have lost mobile (to Apple). Apple's experiences with miniaturisation, wireless technology and battery efficiency will serve them well in wearable technology. Way better than any other company, I daresay.

There is nothing Samsung or google or Microsoft can do to threaten Apple or me as an Apple product user. Apple has won, with its tight-knit control of hardware and software, and in my opinion, there has never been a better time to be an Apple user.

To all the would-be competitors, I say - bring it on.

Who cares what iPhone has (and it has very little considering its price point) since in most countries at most one in 10 use it. iPhone is outcast.

In rich countries, the share of iPhones has been increasing moderately but steadily over last five years or so. Or more precisely, Apple's market share in the upper income segments (as seen globally) has been increasing. Apple's slipping in global market share can be mostly attributed smartphone ownership in the lower income segments rising faster than in the higher income segments (where there is almost smartphone saturation).

My Samsung Galaxy S2 was stable and fluid for the first few months, as was everyone else i knew with one. Then it starts to go bad and you want to throw the phone through a window as they lock up, freeze, go red hot and by 18 months its a heap of junk you wish you had never bought. Now if it was just me i would have thought it was a one off, but it was not. My ex's S2 did it, his mums S2 did it, his dads S3 did it, a work colleagues Galaxy Ace 2 did it ,in fact everyone i knew at work with a Galaxy range phone did it, my sisters S3 did it. Almost all use iPhones now and i don't hear those complaints about them and it put me off Samsung phones for life.
Are you really using 6 yr old devices as a benchmark for what they are like now? Lol

Oh you will be back. A lot iPhone to Samsung converts say what you've just said. Lack of updates, instability and apps will bring you back.

Anyway, you'd of thought Samsung would of killed the Note brand because of the associated incident with the last phone. It really baffles me that they're possibly going to stick to that name.

I bought a flagship Android phone a week later Lollipop is released, read the news that the Sony Xperia phones will be getting the release I wait patiently..week after week I wait, checking updates daily, nothing. It also would randomly decide to play my bluetooth streaming music at full volume in my car when it reconnects if I got out of range. Luckily my car audio turns down the volume when max volume is detected and my speakers weren't ruined. Wi-Fi would randomly disconnect ect. I was always against Apple because it "locks you down", well if stability and regular updates come at the cost of being "locked down", I'm all for it. Best ecosystem out there by far. Apple user for life.

Choice and competition are good for consumers. No need to bicker about it online.

I am a creature of habit, I have been using iPhone since it first came out (going on 10 years now), prior to that I only used Nokia (for 10 years). Until something better comes along, highly unlikely, I will stick with iPhone but appreciate that others are trying to do their best because by doing so they will push Apple to keep doing its best.

So by all means, those of you wanting to switch, go for it! Maybe you will like the change, maybe you wont, maybe you'll appreciate iOS if you happen to come back later.

Not really. iPhone sales got a spike when big screen iPhone came out. After that it has been on a downward trend.

As Android got better, people are not going to be forever fooled into paying twice the price for iPhone which has similar or lower spec.

Don't talk about how great is the apple eco system to justify the high price since 90% of the world don't use apple eco system.

I just switched to a Galaxy S8+ after only ever owning iPhones. I love it; the OS is stable and fluid. I can't see myself going back to an iPhone.
I got the Note 7 and loved it, actually, except for the exploding thing. The only thing that really was terrible was not having iMessage. To me, that's the ubiquitous app that will keep me on iOS.

if the Note 8 is huge, what do you call the 7+?

The 7+ is a huge phone.

Can always tell when it's summer vacation.

Lots of childish insults and complaints, along with the usual teen male "rah rah my team only" ideology

Perhaps the mods should open a forum section just for the kiddies who want to only see "Apple is great" posts, so their lives will be validated.

You're in an Apple forum. You'll generally get praise for Apple and criticism for competitors. Why are you in an Apple forum if you constantly criticize Apple?

Flagship iPhone
Flagship Samsung
Flagship Pixel
its doesn't matter all are exceptional phones.
Enjoy the fact that we have choice now!
True, these are times of plenty.

(Although, it sounds like Apple may be positioning the 'iPhone 8' at the next level up - - the flagship's flagship.)

Same here. Since I have all Apple products and like them, why would I be in a pi***ing contest with other brands?

When Apple products stop to work the for what I have to do , I'll start checking out other stuff.

Simple as that!

PS: Whatever I do not like from Apple I do not buy 2016 MBP, iMac (I don't do desktops), Apple Watch (when they unhook it from my iPhone I may buy one)
