"Nobody makes better-looking phones than Samsung." Really? Was that meant as a joke?
Well to be honest... when looking at the front I really find the Samsung more attractive. Considering its a third cheaper I’ll bet it will be a great success. Apple has lost its mojo in the phone industry some years ago. It has little compelling to offer than other midrange or high end Android phones.

No Clutter? The pages are a mess with those big icons and not being able to customize them for a nice clean homepage. Disagree with that. I also find it not quite as easy to use as Android as you have to take more steps to do some things.
Yes, I’ve seen many clips on YouTube where you can see Android is more simple (less steps) than iOS. Together with better assistant, maps and services Apple is the one who needs to focus more on delivering the goods than on profits.

No compromise? What do you call the fingerprint sensor on the back?

Finger naturally goes on the rear fingerprint sensor when pulling phone out of pocket so it's unlocked and ready even before reaching face level.

In comparison, front fingerprint sensor has poor ergonomic requiring awkwardly pinching the bottom of phone and has a much higher risk of dropping phone.

I can't see myself ever buying an Android phone but if you don't think the S8 wasn't a beautiful phone, you're kidding yourself.

Hey, if finding the S8/S9 to be only "OK" in terms of appearance, marred by the garish and unattractive carved screen, means that some of us are living in a fantasy world, then I want to learn to cast spells and go on adventures!

But, really, it's not all that a slice of chocolate silk pie. It's OK.

The X hardly takes the biscuit, does it?

I am a big Android fan, with a history of using both platform over the years, but spending much more time on the Android side. I love the custom ROM scene, for example. Early this year I wanted to pick up a new phone and just didn't find anything compelling on the Android side, and really liked the look and build of the iPhone X, over anything Android, and so made the leap back. I wouldn't have done that for the 8 or 8+.

On the hardware side maybe, but noting beats the simplicity of iOS.

iOS is like a golf cart compared to Android which is like a Tesla in comparison. iOS has fewer features but isn't easier while Android has more smarter features while being more intuitive. For example, the retirees next door come to me for help with updating iOS on their iPhone since the option is burried unintuitively deep compared to Android which is like 3 easy taps.

Not sure why so many are uninformed about how much simpler Android is, while having more functionality. Shrugs

I think it’s a great design. I prefer the slim bezels top and bottom to the X’s notch. Ultimately it’s still a skinned version of Android with slow to show updates and a lack of future OS upgrade ability. They really should offer a pure android version so that the Bixby button can be reprogrammed and expanded storage isn’t partitioned from the hardware storage.

Worthy rival?

Every review I’ve watched (from Android-centric sites, no less), complain that it’s iteritive, the oleophobic coating wears off, the back scratches easily, and the battery life is terrible (for how large it is).

Their biggest compliment is that the finger print scanner is in a more sensible place. Lol

S9 or X it makes no odds. They are still phones for the price of a desktop.

I’m going to bet you that the S9 will sell about 40m-50m the entire year. That will be a great success for Samsung. It just won’t be an Apple level success.

It’s three steps on iOS.

Widgets, roms, app launchers, customization. The only things that matter. True tech gods.

So, nothing that I use.

I'd be more surprised if Samsung's flagship phone wasn't a worthy iPhone X competitor. Samsung's releasing the S9 a full four months after the release of iPhone X, and, as a major Apple supplier, Samsung knows well in advance what to expect from Apple's flagship phone.

"So why change anything?"

In other words, Samsung is given a free pass on keeping the phone's physical design largely the same as last year. But when Apple does it, its a sign the company is on the rocks, out of ideas, unable to innovate, etc.

"Worthy rival"

Adjusting for the anti-Apple bias: Not a good rival.

You don't download an iPhone app and find out later that it's actually malware. https://www.scmagazine.com/fake-wha...ted-malware-disguised-as-game/article/709845/

Because the iphone 6,6s,7 and 8 look exactly the same. Samsung made the top and bottom bezels a little smaller.

What else can they freaking do? In a few years we will all be looking at screens with no bezels.

Huh?

iOS:
1. Settings
2. General
3. Software Update

You have to go through each sub menu under iOS Settings to find it so it's not as easy as:

Android
1. Settings
2. Software update

Even more brain dead on iOS is hiding Reduce Transparency and Reduce Motion under Accessibility. Whoever came up with iOS menu hierarchy needs to be fired. Just copy Android menu hierarchy.

Have you ever picked one up and felt it in hand? It's very well designed. Also, it doesn't have a notch. The software is the issue (for me at least).
