Copy & Paste took 2 or 3 years before being implemented by Apple. Face ID, no physical home button... the list goes on & on.
Damn, if you gonna go back and dig up copy and paste from 2009 you might as well jump into 2007 and take look at what smart phone looked like before iPhone.

Here comes Samimoji! It really wouldn't surprise me if it came with a notch and depth sensing facial unlocking features. They'll have lightning connectors and Samepods before long.

Apple didn't create the technology for facial recognition, they paid for that too. What Apple did , was applied it to emoji's, now called Animoji. This technology also, already exists in the MOVIE industry, did Apple pay for that, maybe, probably, who knows.
Right but it's one thing to pay for a technology, but another to invent a feature based on that technology. As long as everything is paid for and no patents are violated, I have no issue.

This is literally a "feature" you use ONCE, when you have an iPhone X and the guy next to you doesn't, and you want to be cheeky by showing him the Animoji.

Then you never use it again.

Not surprising. But this has got to be the stupidest "feature" of the last 5 years.

I love it how the firms always flame Apple for making "useless","ugly" stuff/choices, but then copy them.

Notch -> Asus fakes it
Animoji -> Samsung fakes it
Google flaming/mocking Apple about iP7's AUX removal -> 1 yr later do it the same

‍:facepalm:
None of these firms actually think Apple is doing the wrong thing most of the time. They have to spin the marketing to get people to buy their current lot until they can come out with a copy in the next year.

As for Animoji, I'm surprised that Apple didn't patent it. Maybe they're licensing it from someone else? With all the ridiculous patents in the world, you would think something like this that seems to be actually innovative (in a fun, not very useful way) would be patented. Personally I only played around with the feature for the first couple weeks on my X and have only sent a handful. The main reason I don't use it is that it requires me to actually talk out loud most of the time and I'm in my office all day so that would be weird.

Of all the dumb garbage to copy. You would think they would at least conduct a study to see what percent of users actually use this feature. I'm sure it's like 1% of iPhone owners.

Isn't Apple still being sued by the Japanese company that owns the Animoji trademark? Samsung would be foolish to copy a company already accused of copying the original copyrighted idea.

Samsung foolish? No Way!! /S

I think at this point all the smartphone manufacturers should realize that the Android and iPhone user base is settled. People are already deep into one of these ecosystems and will not change no matter how much incremental changes they bring upon or copy each other. Until something revolutionary happen, we will continue to see this catching up games.

I would agree that Apple was revolutionary. With Tim Cook at the helm, I don't think anything revolutionary will come out of Apple. May be I am wrong. Plus I don't give much weight to Jony Ivy. He himself can't do much unless he has company of a person like Steve Jobs! May be I am wrong.

Is such a useless gimmick feature really worth spending R&D money to copy? Must they include it just because Apple has it? I don't think someone who is looking to get a new Samsung phone gives a rats furry crack about it having such a stupid feature.

What did Apple invent here? Nothing. Animation based on human movement has been done for decades in the movie industry, including facial. 3d facial recognition, again, already out there for many years.

isnt everything in the tech industry a copy of something else? All they do is make it better than the competition
If you statement is relative to a smart phones, sure, I will agree. However, not everything Apple does is better than the competition (SIRI...need I say more).
