What did Apple invent here? Nothing. Animation based on human movement has been done for decades in the movie industry, including facial. 3d facial recognition, again, already out there for many years.

I know that, that’s how movements are made in video games for example. I’m talking specifically about mobile phones and devices

Apple pretty much (*) copied Snapchat's filters for Animoji's. You know, those stupid cartoon masks that use AR to put cats whiskers/bunny ears/horses arse/etc on you face.

* yes Apple's version is more advanced....

Animoji isn't an Apple invention. Logitech has had avatars in video calls and instant messaging since at least 2005. Intel had "Pocket Avatars" mobile apps in 2014. Anyone saying Samsung is copying Apple also needs to recognize Apple copied other companies' tech and integrated it into iOS. Apple simply broke down the walled garden and allowed avatars in their own messaging app instead of requiring users to launch a separate program. Apple didn't create Animoji, it just made them convenient to use.

I sent my GF an emoji of me singing her happy birthday. That went over well. Try it a bit. It can be funny. And if you are not the type to use something like this, it will be even more funny.
Appreciate the genuine suggestion, I'll do that!

waste of time. animogi is such a useless feature unless you're a teenager. guess instead of making a good iOS we have to have talking animals on all phones. It's probably an exciting feature for all of 5 minutes.

A lot of Samsung users already like Live Messages. Animoji will probably be a big hit with them.

This is the result of giving people what they really want. Sammy did some market research before baking this into their cake, right? In the mean time, where is the Mac Pro?

Did I wake up in some dystopian future? This is the point of spending $1,000 on a phone and paying $200/month ($2,400/year) for stupid cartoon faces? Yikes! Is there any tech out there that does something useful anymore?

Apparently the phones do more than this.

Good to even out the things Apple took from Samsung like:
- Big Screen
- Screen Mirroring
- Wireless Charging
- Smartwatches
- Picture in picture
- Amoled Screen
- Apple Pencil
- Wireless Earbuds
- NFC

I could go on...

I'm sure Samsung will be smarter than Apple with "Animoji" to atleast add it to the Camera which already has a similar feature before Apple introduced "Animoji" called "Stickers", than inside the Message App locked to a 10 seconds recording.

First of all, I find it hard to believe that animojis are popular.

Second, it's funny how the Macrumor headlines don't use the word "copy" when the iPhone gets a feature that competitors have first. Where were the "Apple to copy wireless charging" or "Apple to copy OLED display" headlines?
