Samsung's 'Infringe First and Stall as Long as Possible' Strategies Are Nothing New

On the note of people dying in factories, you seem to have forgotten the stories of Foxconn, which makes iDevices and Apple computers, about the workers dying?

...in areas with already high suicide rates and where suicides have nothing to do with Apple.

Fixed it for you.

When families hold quiet and peaceful protests outside Samsung HQ, looking for answers for the deaths and illnesses of their relatives, Samsung sends in the goon squad to have them arrested. There is no comparison between Samsung and Apple, no matter how desperate you are to make it seem so.

Both Samsung and Apple were found guilty. Suck it up.

These comments be like:

Lol love it. And so true. You've got people posting like 50 pictures showing how Apple copied. As if that somehow means Samsung didnt?

Suck it up. Both companies blatantly copied things. Why are people trying to make Samsung look good, by saying Apple did too?

Apple has nothing to do with that. Foxconn does.

As a large customer it is Apples responsibility to help ensure the safety of the people making its products:

Because YOU and Apple pay for those workers killing themselves. You all seem to have forgotten how Apple has investigated these suppliers themselves also, rather convenient for your arguments I must say:

Wow, look at that, people have now said I should be ashamed of myself, broken the sites rules by calling me a troll (go and read the rules!), and yet here I am posting factual news story link after link proving and backing up everything I say. You lot should try Google sometime.

I'm confused. What phone is the iPhone and what phone is the Galaxy S?

Here's one with the actual homescreen and correct size. Does that help you any?

Funny I haven't seen one person call kdarling a troll for what he posted. Seems you may be the one who's trying to incite the crowd. Or maybe you're projecting?

Projecting. He just posted it. Check back tomorrow.

Every time I've seen someone make a post like that, the forces rally and go on a mass offensive (like they are paid well to do some kind of collective damage control). A few might chime in in counter but inevitably, there will be a shout down by the masses and/or efforts to change the subject (to ignore the facts). I was mostly just poking fun at the crowd here, as it does become pretty predictable after just an iteration or three.

I also can't believe we're at post #109 without someone writing "Die Samsung Die" (which would translate to "no iPhone 6, no" or at least heavily "delay, iPhone 6, delay").

How much has Apple paid Motorola for using their essential patents for the past seven years, while stalling license deals via court cases? Zero?

You're kidding right? Motorola was almost fined for abusing their SEP by discriminating against Apple.

Apple agreed to pay, but Moto wanted more. Moto was then threatened with a fine and the case was dropped.

Moto's got nothing on Apple. Why do you think Google dropped them so fast?

Aaah the comparison photo where they felt the need to manipulate the dimensions of the phone to make it look closer to the iPhone. Just like they did with the S2 and galaxy tab

How does this prove anything? All you need to use is the old eye test to tell they copied the design almost straight up.

You're so right. If you change the size, and go to a specific screen, and ignore the fact that there are those other buttons, they're exactly the same.

You don't realize that your post that everyone is going to call him a troll and incite the masses, does just that. Kinda ironic.

Absolutely zero surprises here. One has to wonder how they've managed to become such a tech giant without a single iconic product up their sleeve. Sony's got the Walkman and PlayStation; Apple's got the Mac and iDevice line. Samsung has had nothing up until the Galaxy line, which achieved this status ages after the original Galaxy S (i9000) w/ TouchWiz cloned the 3GS hardware and iOS software designs.

Their component business/supply/factories are brilliant, but as a device company, they are the scum of human kind!

Now, I'm just waiting for companies like Huawei to give Samsung a taste of their own medicine, and I bet they could even do that less blatantly!

They did and didn't. Google dropped Motorola Manufacturing, but kept their IP assets and research division for themselves.

I think that was their goal all along. I don't know that they ever intended to bring Moto back from the brink. It was all about procuring IP.

I doubt I have that kind of masses leadership here. I usually sit on the fence, as objectively as I can. The masses (here) tend to be "Apple is God" people… or close to it.

Again, I own products made by both of these companies and think both companies make GREAT stuff. I know one makes great stuff without depending on the other while the other can't really do that. To wish away Samsung is to wish away most of the hardware products Apple sells, including much of the new stuff in the pipeline.

I can certainly see some wrongdoing by Samsung but can't generally get behind the idea of software patents. In other words, if Apple should be able to destroy Samsung for "slide to unlock", I think Samsung should be able to sue for "larger screen iPhones". Both are ridiculous IMO.

Again IMO, I think software should be copyright law at best. Otherwise, the deepest pocket companies will eventually have such a pile of patents on basic functionality that no small companies will be able to afford to code anything (the licensing to just cover their butts will cost too much).

Reading your signature, no you do NOT! You MOST definitely own several Samsung devices, fact!

That's always the argument so let me clarify once again: I don't want anything with their logo on the exterior of a product, which means I will never have to deal with that shady company ever. If I have issues with any of the products on my signature, I'll happily deal with that company instead.

Or if you only take a look at the height of the device, one specific part of the UI they are nothing alike.

Seriously, are you trying do deny what people around the world, samsung itself and juries concluded? They copied everything and they and couldn't copy, and sadly it was worth it, despite 1 billion $ of penalties with much more to come.

Not the place/thread mate. :)

Yeah, it's just funny that OMG someone copied a few aspects of a mobile phone is treated here as it's it's akin to rape/murder etc etc or invading countries with troops.

Some people really need to chill.

It's called business. Governments do bad things, army's do bad things, companies to bad things, people do bad things.

They all do what they need to do for what's best for them.

I'm certain many of the companies many of these Samsung haters work for, would do anything they can and get away with anything they can to be more successful.

It's just funny how people view things.

Bwahahah, this is hilarious. They start making a similar phone to Apple's then end up making better ones. Slap in the face for Apple. It's gotten to the point now where Apple is copying ideas from other platforms now. Tee hee. If Apple wants the top spot back in the smartphone market then they need to get their finger out and focus on actual innovation instead of suing others because they dared make a rectangular phone with rounded corners.

What is better? Certainly not the camera, design, ecosystem, software, speed, support, battery life when browsing, etc.

While the screen of THIS generation might be marginally better (for some cases) the phone as a whole is worse by a margin not seen since the original galaxy...

Companies like Samsung and that Patent Troll company called Lodsys may actually help destroy patent laws since they seem to hurt more than help.

So you are calling Samsung shady, yet your devices are powered by the chips they make? You don't make any sense with your argument.

I get that you guys need to play to your audience, but to claim any level of journalistic integrity and publish a story with that title is just outright pathetic.

Of course Samsung copies. So does Apple, so does Microsoft, so does Activision, and Ford, and Toyota, and Lenovo, and Costco, and Boeing, and every single other company in the world.

I am in no way defending Samsung's actions nor am I suggesting they are defensible, but that title is insulting to Samsung, it's insulting to Apple, and it's insulting to your readers and your fans.

Nonsense. It's becoming increasingly obvious that Samsung has just adopted this as their business model. Steal other people's ideas and then pass them off as your own and tie the other guy up in court for years and then settle as late in the game as you can, rinse and repeat.

Sure, every company is guilty of this to some extent, but Samsung in in a whole other league. If you have some evidence that Apple does this kind of thing to anywhere near the extent that Samsung has, I'de love to see it.

I think the recent jury awards make it clear who is the 500 lb. gorilla when it comes to stealing other's ideas.

A few juries concluded they copied some things. No jury has ever said they copied everything. Hyperbole will win you nothing. Also, the 1 billion dollars was lowered I think.
