But view the commercial straight up, as is, and it screams "Apple." Add to that everything else Samsung has been doing for months now (http://media.idownloadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/samsung-copycat-e1317254306784.jpg), put two and two together, and their intentions are immediately clear.

Please, that picture has been debunked a long time ago.

Wow, you hate to see everyone's favorite Korean appliance manufacturer taking some heat for lack of creative thinking (*shocking*). Nice to see the Samsung (i.e. Android) fans here rising to their defense. I'd still like to know who's the Richard Dreyfuss sound-alike Samsung found for their Galaxy II commercial. Keep the originality coming, Samsung!

That again has been debunked, it isn't made by Samsung, it's made by another company. Please try again.

That somehow, is mysteriously connected to Samsung and was endorsed by them, until they got worried and stepped back. Amazing how all these things are somehow connected to innocent Samsung and their devices.

Now Apple is holding Samsung accountable.

Such horrible luck!

But back to the covers. Although Apple hasn’t detailed its complaint against Samsung, a possible motive could be a smart cover look-alike that was “Samsung certified” back in July. The Galaxy Tab tablet cover was sold in Samsung’s South Korean stores and created by Anymode. Anymode is owned by Youngbo Engineering, headed by the nephew of Samsung chairperson Kun-Hee Lee, according to 9to5Mac. Samsung reportedly yanked the product, saying the certification was “an oversight.” Do you smell burning pants?

Thieves. Clever corporate thieves. Plain and simple.

-sigh-

Incase made a similar design before Apple did:

Nice refrigerator... where did they get the idea from? Whirlpool or GE? Maybe Kenmore? :D

I think that patent is for the magnets on the smart cover, not the design itself.

If it was for the design, then the patent system is highly flawed since the Incase case came before they patented it.

Your article states: "Sneaky Apple originally filed their Smart Cover product patent in Canada one year ago this month. It has only recently come to light for public viewing."

The article was made in December 16, 2011.

A year ago this month, would be December of 2010, but the Incase case was out before that.

How do I know? This page was posted on November of 2010: http://www.complex.com/tech/2010/11/buy-it-now-incase-convertible-magazine-jacket-for-ipad

If you doubt it's the same case, then look at this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H3721ZM/A

Even if you look at the reviews below the Apple product page of the Incase case, then you'll see that it came out before December of 2010.

1.)The store is a store within a store, so it's a Samsung booth within an Apple store, I believe.

2.)I think same company makes the USB adapters for both.

3.)Having the product on a white box has been made before the iPad, for example, the Nintendo DS box.

4.)Really stupid picture, what you see when you open pretty much anything is the main thing...

5.)Samsung doesn't make the cables, that's a PDMI cable.

6.)Not sure if serious.

When it actually doesn't matter at all ....

A patent isn't really anything more than "hey I think I was the 1st one to come up with this ...".

Once it's shown that prior art exist it isn't really worth that much anymore...

But to the topic:

Apple-fanboys : "whine, whine and some more whine"
Non Apple-fanboys : "lets proove something that noone really cares about".

No, I didn't watch that commercial, and I won't bother to do it...

I give a FF (Monty Phyton reference for the cultural-challenged) about who copied whom 1st (they all did), all I care about is :
does it do what it is supposed to do ?

Android devices seem to have some miles to go on that one while Apple devices suffer from their (traditional) curse of form-over-function-syndrome.

None of them is getting my money unless the come to (common ??) sense.

The ad doesn't feel much like an iPad ad. Apple ads, especially the currently running iPad ads, have a more epic-like "this is magical" theme, more "join our elite group" than just "here's what your family can do with our product" such as in the ad in question.

I've seen plenty of laundry detergent adverts with people standing out in a field, enjoying a spring breeze. It wasn't just "BEEZO LAUNDRY DETERGENT! NOW WITH LYE", and a still shot of the box. Nothing was revolutionized here. Nothing was copied. They're all pretty standard fare when it comes to selling stuff via TV.

That's funny.. similar to you, the first thing that comes to mind, when I think of commercials like this one, are the ads for laundry fabric softeners. Not Apple ads.

Good God, people. Actually think for yourselves for once, instead of hitting the ol x is copying instant reply button.

Fortunately, in a few days school holidays will be over.

Doesn't look like a smart cover.

But this does:

Yes the iPad2 was recently unveiled and with it came this new innovative “smart cover” that protects the front face and serves as an on-and-off switch for it.

“Wow!” says the public around the world, but in Japan, we say “huh? this seems quite familiar…”

Guess what the iPad2 smart cover is similar to in Japan.

This is a typical Japanese “ofuro” or bathtub where we use a cover like this one to keep the water warm while we prepare to bath in it. In Japan, you first bathe yourself before enjoying a quiet time on the hot water so hence the need for this cover.

You might be on firmer ground if you admit that both Apple and InCase might have taken the idea from there. However, Samsung's Smart Cover ripoff is indeed a ripoff, having been introduced so late in the game, after Apple's Smart Cover, and in light of everything else Samsung has been trying to rip from Apple.

I must say that Apple's smart cover is not original. And Samsung never made a Smart Cover rip off. It was another company that did.

Laundry detergent was actually my second choice. My first choice would've been cookie batter advert. Whenever I hear that guy's voice playing on the TV in the background, I hear the first few lines, and immediately think it's gonna segue into..

"For some, it's a lifelong passion. For others, it's something discovered yesterday. And yet, for others, it's grandma's home baked cookies, just like you used to have at Christmas down on the farm.

Pillsbury. Making life memorable. One chocolate chip cookie at a time".

That guy's voice. That music. It doesn't make me think of an iPad. It makes me think of warm cookies, a tall glass of frosty milk, a cozy fire, and stockings stuffed with presents.

Great. Now I'm hungry. And I want more presents.

Fortunately, in a few days school holidays will be over.

I'm counting down the seconds til. ;)

It's revolutionary! It's brilliant! It's...my Trapper Keeper from elementary school?

It hasn't been debunked. Samsung pulled all that out of their magic hat.

But the problem isn't just with Samsung, even though Samsung is (and apparently has no problems with) being the most obvious of the bunch.

Everyone and their dog seems to be following Apple's designs, sometimes almost to the letter.

Have a look at some of the stuff here. It'll go a long way to explaining why Apple is the most valuable company on the planet, and why the also-rans can barely make it in markets in which Apple flourishes and makes most of their money. It isn't a Samsung issue. It's an industry-wide issue. Remove Apple from the mix, and suddenly everyone's drawing-board would go completely blank. It wold be like sudden, industry-wide writer's block.

Apple didn't invent jack crap. Everything they made is somewhat improved from the original version from some other device. Unfortunately, some apple drones fail to understand this.

They think having a patent means everything.

Guess what? Country like china has the most patent in the world. Are they considered original? FU** NO!

The thing is companies aren't copying Apple as Apple wasn't the first to use those designs in the link you provided.
