This device doesn't seem very creative to me. My guess is we haven't seen an "iWatch yet" because Apple is working on something different, not just an old iPod nano with a wrist strap. To me the Galaxy Gear is Samsung rushing something to market so they can claim "first".

Also, the hello commercial fit with the context:
1) It was during the Oscars, so the movie theme made sense.
2) Hello has been a word Apple has been using to introduce its products for a long time. The original mac was introduced with Hello on the screen. The iMac was introduced with "Hello, again".

Even in the commercial, Samsung has been "inspired" by Apple, but there is no context to the commercial at all. They just show a bunch of watches being used in movies and then show their own. And they screened it during a football game.

Plus Samsung's commercial makes no sense unless all those characters in the movie clips were also carrying a smart phone.

It would be silly if we say everything samsung does is copying , if they release gold version than also copying :O . In that case Sony, Nokia released gold version of their phones years back , than is Apple copying
This is a common template for evolution of technology .

Actually I quite liked the ad. It would be banned in the UK though for false advertising.

This was a homage to the first iPhone commercial.

It's funny seeing all the Apple fanboys here. I use Apple products, I have an iPhone, a Macbook, and an iPad but I don't hate on Samsung like you guys do. I'm not sure if you guys know this but people's reaction to the first iPhone wasn't so warm either. Back then, Blackberry and Nokia (Kings and queens of the smartphone market) laughed at their feeble attempt to try to gain market share. Now, they're nowhere to be found and Apple and Samsung are ruling the cellphone market.

THIS IS A HOMAGE TO THE FIRST IPHONE COMMERCIAL.

It was designed to be a starting point to a technological revolution -- just like the iPhone did back then. The only reason why fanboys are fanboys is because they think that the iPhone is being threatened and is now the underdog. That's also why there are Android fanboys -- for the longest time, it was an underdog and people generally cheer for the underdog.

You don't see a shampoo commercial and say that "OHHH!!! They copied that other shampoo commercial by showing the flowy hair!" It's marketing, guys. It's even the point of the ad, sometimes, to either make fun of or pay homage to another ad.

Well, the current iPhone 5C ad is similar except it uses actors especially for that ad.

It looks like a weak iPod nano (prev gen).

(I wonder what the slides of Samsung smart watch before apple iwatch and after look like in the future.)

Have you used this device? If not, I am curious how you seem to know for a fact that it is "weak".

One reason: I think the general public views bluetooth headsets on anyone not actively driving a car (i.e. walking down the street) to be dousche-baggery at its finest.

That's not to say that talking into a watch isn't up there, as well.

Wouldn't you still need an earpiece if you are talking into the watch? Or does it have a speaker you can hear the other party from?

Oh how I would love if Apple would introduce something "COMPLETELY" different that changes the world again and that it was using the "iWatch" as a ruse to divert copy cat companies from biting into what apple thinks is the next innovation.

Samesung would be like awww. wasted all that money and it got us in the wrong direction..

Couldn't have said that better myself. :)

They do offer a certain amount of security. It'd be hard for someone to run by and swipe it, and likewise would be very hard to lose or drop.

Combine that with some innovative skins (dynamic and static), and they could be an interesting fashion accessory, too.

I don't currently want one, but that could change.

I think it's more the timing of the gold galaxy s4 than the fact that they made a gold model. It's almost like Samsung is poking apple with this one. I don't care at all to be honest because it's a color on a phone and someone will like it and buy it, it affects me none. But I think it's pretty obvious this is a direct response from Samsung to the gold iphone.

Think of every person you see talking on a cell phone using it in speaker mode. That is the way all the Dick Tracy type watch phones worked. Nobody had earphones or bluetooth headsets with them. If you have a bluetooth headset, at that point what difference is a wrist phone from a cell phone in your pocket? The caller ID? just make the phone talk that out ("You have an incoming cal from XXXX").

"Homage". Another word for "stealing".

...kidding.

(Or am I?)
Neither, I think. As someone who works in advertising, I can't tell you how many times an idea — or in this case, commercial — is put into motion, only to realize down the line that it was already done by someone else. By that point, it's too late to reverse course, so you just push it out the door. I'm assuming SOMEONE raised a red flag about this at some point or another.

That said, Samsung themselves wouldn't have been the ones who "stole" this idea. It would have been their advertising agency.

But isn't the argument about the ad, not the product? If Samsung wanted to play homage to a technological revolution, perhaps it shouldn't have chosen the company they are known for copying already? (cue any technological ads here, I don't have any!)

Just saying, there are plenty of other ads Samsung could have looked at, but it chose Apple.

Relax. If you going to take everything, everybody says here as fact you are going to be way more curious than this. :p

I said it "it looks...." meaning the look of it. And it is an opinion. I hope I was able to satisfy your curiosity.

Samsung isn't even hiding the fact that they're copying anymore lol. Can't blame them, copyng the iPhone put them on the map on the android space.

Are mac rumours really so far up Apples backside that they see Samsungs add as a homage to Apple? Sorry, just another crazed apple fan comment as opposed to the actual truth (I.e. it's a similar style advert like many are, but bears no resemblance to the Apple add, let alone homage!!!)

----------

Say what you like people, but I don't see Apple to market with any product as yet ... Let alone an advert (copied or not!)
