It's funny seeing all the Apple fanboys here. I use Apple products, I have an iPhone, a Macbook, and an iPad but I don't hate on Samsung like you guys do. I'm not sure if you guys know this but people's reaction to the first iPhone wasn't so warm either. Back then, Blackberry and Nokia (Kings and queens of the smartphone market) laughed at their feeble attempt to try to gain market share. Now, they're nowhere to be found and Apple and Samsung are ruling the cellphone market.

THIS IS A HOMAGE TO THE FIRST IPHONE COMMERCIAL.

It was designed to be a starting point to a technological revolution -- just like the iPhone did back then. The only reason why fanboys are fanboys is because they think that the iPhone is being threatened and is now the underdog. That's also why there are Android fanboys -- for the longest time, it was an underdog and people generally cheer for the underdog.

You don't see a shampoo commercial and say that "OHHH!!! They copied that other shampoo commercial by showing the flowy hair!" It's marketing, guys. It's even the point of the ad, sometimes, to either make fun of or pay homage to another ad.
None of this post was accurate.

Only if you believe the art of thievery is creative.

Wow, you're accusing Samsung of stealing from who exactly? And when apple come out with their own watch, will that be just as creative????

Anyone calling Samsung is just lame!!!

That ad is so poorly edited, no doubt a rush job just like the product it promotes.

I find it comical the Shamsung watch looks similar to the old iPod Nano, four apps on the screen, square form factor etc. etc. Just goes to show how little vision and imagination they have with regards to innovative design.

I look forward to Apple's watch which you can bet your left butt-cheek will look jaw dropping, probably using an OLED curved screen. I already need one, when out doing a night shoot last night I was constantly pulling my phone out of my pocket simply to check the timer function*... that, and being able to bring up my notes are two examples of very useful functions it would provide me, for one use case at least.

Bring it on.

* (love the fact it shows on the lock screen in iOS7 now)

Boy and girls, when Apple drops their smart watch, which is being done in classic Apple fashion(every damn detail scrutinized to the letter of the alphabet) that antiquated looking Samsung tick tock trash will be merely a memory.

The ad is great; unfortunately the reviews of the actual product have been less than impressive to say the least.

Stealing? Not really. The "evolution through time around a common theme" template has been done many times before, even before Apple.

Even though I'm a big Apple fan and would never buy the Samsung watch, I still thought that was a very entertaining commercial. Well done Samsung.

An adv doesn't get you buy the stuff being advertised is never a good commercial for the advertiser.

First of all, I actually kinda like the commercial. But then again, i enjoy anything nostalgic. The ad is MUCH better than the ones bashing or poking fun.

But regarding the "fanboy" comment and the feeling threatened... I dont think it's that at all. Personally I don't feel threatened a single bit. And I don't hate Samsung (own a TV of theirs and some appliances myself). But it does get a little annoying when they belittle me, the Apple user, because I use Apple's products over theirs. (and it's not a valid argument to bring up the "I'm a mac" commercials... those products didn't insult the users themselves as far as I remember). Plus, it does kinda feel like that kid in school that buys the blue shoes cause you just bought them. Shows up a few days later with the Batman lunch box cause you just bought one. Shows up in all monster truck shirts cause you've been wearing some for a couple of weeks now. Just a little annoying.

Sure, Apple didn't invent any of this stuff (just like you didn't invent batman lunch boxes and monster trucks) but It just seems like it's ONLY Apple that Samsung is following.

lol at "steal" comments

Samsung has stolen nothing. So far iWatch is vaporware, musings from a company that seems to be dabbling in wearable computing devices, but has released no details about iWatch.

You can't steal something that doesn't exist.

I respect you confidence in a product that shows no sign of coming to market soon, from a company that, of late, hasn't exactly shown itself to be at the height of technical (or software) prowess.

Be childish and bash a competitor if you wish, but don't pick on a competitor that has actually brought some pretty decent products to market (TV's, camera's, tablets, phones etc!)

You may notice that in the iPhone ad it was mostly movies involving normal everyday people while the Samsung watch ad involved mostly sci-fi and ridiculous situations.

In terms of convenience, I would much rather have Google Glass as something that is immediately available than a watch that I have to hold up to my mouth. For now though, I'll keep to my Bluetooth earpiece.

To me the Galaxy Gear is Samsung rushing something to market so they can claim "first".

When a new article is posted on the Internet, the first addition to the comments section is often an inconsequential, one-word statement: "First!"

The frequent "First!" cry of the Internet troll declares some strange pride in being the first to comment on an article. The commenter put little to no effort into the post; it added nothing to the conversation, and it was completely devoid of substance. The troll did secure the spot at the top of the thread, though, and every additional commenter will be forced to scroll past the pointless contribution.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear says "First!" in hardware form.

Also this is apparently how many of the notifications are handled (including GMail...):

Wow, thanks! :D

This is very true. It is also worth watching how Samsung Galaxy Gear will evolve, especially IF iWatch becomes a real commercial product.

As long as I can remember, niether Captain Kirk, nor Dick Tracy, nor any of those characters in the ad needed a 6" device in their pockets so their watch could make a call...

It's too long. They could've made it more more "exciting" by cutting out some parts.
Also, the UI-control reminds me of the iPod nano.

yes I was watching tv and thought the commercial was taking forever. I remember saying when will it be over?

Who, as a kid, didn't dream of a watch phone?
THis appeals to all ages, specially us, 40 somethings, who grew up watching this kind of stuff. An A+ for Samsung! :)

I had a toy Dick Tracy watch as a child. I loved the old cartoons. LOVED them. Having a really hard time getting behind the notion though as an adult. A watch that doubles as an accessory and a portal for information (for me at least) seems redundant when a phone provides the same solution. I understand that it saves time instead of having to pull a phone out of my pocket, but honestly, we're talking about a couple seconds here and there.

Sell the iWatch with WIRELESS EARBUDS without sacrificing the current Apple Earbud size and you might have me. Because seriously...wireless Apple Earbuds? No more tangles in my pocket? That in and of itself is an innovation.

Why shouldn't Samsung copy Apple's commercials? They've copied everything else!

Now they want to take tickets for wearable tech. I'm not sure this is an arena in which Apple should be playing, but whatever Apple's effort, it will make this from Samsung look like what it is ... an also-ran.

Honestly, whether they're taking cues from Apple's marketing team is completely irrelevant. Sure, you can say it confirms this idea we all like to say to ourselves (me included) that Samsung's engine runs on Apple's fumes, but nobody else really cares that much.

This ad is brilliant. It makes me want their product, despite the fact that I know the product is garbage. Now that is saying something.

Do I see screws on the face of the watch? Yuck.

It makes it look like a half finished product. And they couldn't have figured out to get the screwheads to all line up in the same direction. Kind of fugly. I can see a firesale coming soon on these given all the bad press that the product has been given.

They might give them away with a Note purchase. Makes sense. Get them out there, you can say that XX were "sold", get people interested and also increase the Galaxy sales.
