No doubt they will also do it with Samsung TVs, which would be a highly desirable feature And something AirPods Pro and airpods max don’t do.

also: they are actually going to add Pro on the end? Lol.
Really. The tv thing would be cool. Only reason I doubt it is that there is little updating for TVs for new features. But maybe future TVs, Well that is the future after all

still waiting for airplay support. Waiting. Waiting

My JVC mini system had this feature 30 years ago, though not in a headphone. But it’s been around forever in some form.

The only innovation is that the headphone knows which direction the display is so you can turn your head and the sound stays coming from the display. Which is cool?
Though not in headphones. Operative expression

First, the Galaxy buds are a really nice device. I owned them for a short period time for a ‘trial run’, and I actually really liked them. Pretty minimalistic design and they were comfortable in the ear.

Now, as far as all the ‘copying comments’. Of course Samsung and Apple exchange differences in terms of technology that they’re trying to compete with one other. They probably were working on this technology long before it was even announced today, and for them to be competitive, they should offer similar features. So the copying comments, it gets really old, when the argument goes both ways between both of these companies.

Apple's spatial audio is not simply virtual surround sound in stereo headphones. It also locks the direction of the sound so it sounds like it coming from the device right in front of you even if you turn your head, as if you are sitting in a movie theater (or like your surround setup at home).

Agreed.

I don't remember MacRumors posting an article titled Apple copies on screen widgets for mobile OS from Android OS either? Nothing more annoying in tech these days then oh they copied they copied. Who cares, you're a consumer you benefit more product choices this way.

Horribly titled article and it should be changed.
You forgot to add in and windows mobile live tiles.

always fun watching the comments for these articles. on one hand you have macrumors having 0 shame and making a clickbaity article about how samsung copies apple ignoring the fact that in this industry everyone copies everyone. almost all of apple's software innovations come from another company.

on the other hand you got all the apple brand loyalists in here being all "LOL scamsung got no shame" "LEL REDMOND START UR PHOTOCOPIERS" like big uncle apple wants them to behave

never change, macrumors

Some are correctly pointing out that Apple didn't invent this feature.

The issue isn't who invented it; it's that Samsung is introducing this feature soon after Apple.

If this tech is really that old, doesn't that only make it funnier that Samsung waited until Apple implemented it before doing it themselves?

The issue is that morons rush like there is no tomorrow to proclaim that someone "copied" Apple. It would be hilarious every time it happens if it wasn't so pathetic. It's an industry where everyone copies from everyone else. OK I'll get off my soapbox, just a bit perturbed that every other response here is "Hur Dur they copied Apple". I actually like my Samsung Buds and was hoping to see some conversation about them.

Samsung had it first.

360 Reality Audio is a new music experience that uses Sony's object-based spatial audio technology.

I suppose you meant Sony, but yeah, I noticed that my older WH-1000XM3s have it, but it only works with a few not very popular music services, so it's not useable for me. AirPods Pro can use it when watching movies and TV shows on iTunes, Apple TV+, Disney Plus, and HBO Max, so I find Apple's implementation more useable.

This discussion isn't new, we have been here before.

There are multiple compatibility requirements to spatial audio:

  • Playback device
  • Audio device
  • Playback software
  • Content

If one is incompatible with the others, you won't get spatial audio. For example, playing back a DTS-encoded movie won't give spatial audio with AirPods Pro/Max and iPhone.

Copying Apple? 😂😂😂
Apple clearly succeeded in making their iFan community think that spatial audio was invented by Apple. Apple is just applying it, not inventing it. Therefore Samsung or any other company is NOT copying Apple.

No wonder many of us are being called iSheep...
Even Macrumors author should be ashamed of him/herself by using tho word "copy".

You can find publications about spatial audio in every single scientific journal.
(Here is one from 2013 by Bethswort et al., https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-642-40498-6_35 )

I think “copy” might be a strong word in this instance. Samsung is shameless, but virtual positional three-dimensional audio has been around for a while.

if it's been a while, how come Samsung didn't do it before Apple?

i'm not doubting 3d audio has existed for a while, but we all know what Samsung is really doing here.
