You mean, like the way Apple came out with pink/rose gold watch with a white band a year after Samsung did?

View attachment 617019

Should one company always avoid colors that another company has used?

Of course not. Samsung doesn't own pink gold and white. And if Apple is selling a popular color, it's natural Samsung will do the same.

Likewise, it was okay for Apple to come out with bigger displays because Samsung's sales proved there was a market for them.

Anything can be rationalised, but the timing of the pink colour was very suspicious, given that it came during a period where there was a lot of look and feel knocking off by Samsung.

Apple copies specific. Yes but no where as ridiculous as Samsung.

But when Apple creates "Apple Pay" and Samsung creates .."Samsung pay".
Apple has "3D touch" - Then one year later Samsung will have the same - probably called "Samsung touch".

It's beyond blatant...it reminds of those fake stores in shanghai where you get a RHOLEX.

Ok, well Google had Google Maps and Apple came out with Apple maps. You had the Surface Pro that proved to be a success and now there's iPad Pro. And don't even get me started on Apple blatantly ripping off android features in iOS 7, slapping a new name on them and saying "We're so innovative!" The Note line proved that big screen phones could sell, and BAM the iPhone suddenly grows. Hell there's even rumors of Apple getting into the VR race, with it being the new cool thing and all. My point? Both Apple and Samsung have a history of copying the competition. It is what it is. Personally, I don't care. Again, just give me a solid device and I'm good.

Oh the hate is strong with some of you. We're seeing the natural evolution of technology. Not copying. If you're going to point your finger at Samsung, you might as well point your finger at Apple too. But why bother. Buy the device that you want. No one is forcing you to do otherwise.

The natural evolution always seems to occur after Apple...

That's probably why Samsung's sales of top end phone has been cut in 3 in the last 2 years and their profits are going to zero; because they're "won". Good grief. What garbage. The S6 abysmal battery life and overall performance (massive throttling) makes all your assertions laughable.

We're you actually attempting to reply to my post? Doesn't sound like it...

1. My assertions are actually features that Sammy has/had that iPhone does not. These are un-debatable facts when
comparing the phones's features side-by-side.

2. I did not reference an S6 (I don't have one). I clearly point out the devices I refer to.

3. My comment has nothing to do with sales, profits, or anything else (I couldn't care less). I only care about the product and what I can do with it, regardless of who makes it.

My blunt answer is: WHO CARES.

If a color or shape or size seems like it'll be popular, then of course other manufacturers will provide the same if they want maximum sales competition.

Yes, Samsung offered similar colors as Apple in order to compete. Likewise, Apple offered similar larger phone and smaller tablet sizes as Samsung in order to compete. And they both rip off the best UI ideas from each other.

No one should act surprised or shocked or upset by this. It's the way the commercial world works all over.

Just look at how automobile colors and styles follow any new (or old) idea. Or how home decorating trends are copied instantly, from country look to stainless steel, from granite counter tops to concrete.

Thank God that curtain and bedspread and even waste basket companies don't have fan sites!! People would be riled up all over the place about all the copying going on :D --- Fortunately, this kind of "team rivalry" junk is mostly limited to young male dominated sites for electronics and automobiles.

I can see it now. All trash cans were ROUND until X company. Y Company is a copy cat. And everyone knows that wood trashcans are cheap and look like toys compared trash cans made of brushed aluminum!

ZERO profits?.. really.. didn't they make 6 billion last quarter.. your other comments are laffable, and just show your true colours....

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the current iPhone 6s already water resistant to an extent?

To quite an extent!

Oh yes be proud to be a [consumer] You really think you are winning in this equation? Care to compare you bank account with Apples?

Point here: [consumers] never win, [producers] do. [producers] like Apple sell to [consumers] like you.

You must have a menial job where the Apple ecosystem contributes nothing to your r bank account. It's a lot different for me.

Just like Apple steal from Samsung. Livephotos launched with the S4 3 years ago... Grow up

Or the notifications center. Pull from the top. Total ripoff from Android. Could keep the list going both ways... Thats life and it's ok. It gives you a choice :)

"they even stole the features RUMORED for the next iPhone" - Really? Stole a rumor? When you hear rumors, you have no clues, for wich devices this is. Some will say Apple, some LG, some Samsung. That was just...

Stole a rumor? Shocker right?! Would you like to have some examples? Samsung's 12" tablets and Galaxy Gear were both produced based on Apple rumors. So while I grow up, why don't you go educate yourself a little? Yes?

Well I'm an aerospace engineer by background, trade my own stock portfolio and am currently working on two iOS apps. What do you do thats so brilliant?

Both examples are terrible.

The Samsung 12" tablet was rumoured before apple rumour and the gear was 2 generations deep by the time Apple had a watch. Not to mention Samsung had made a watch in 2009.

Instead of repeating fansite stories, why don't we look at actual smartwatch history:

Samsung's been making smartwatches since before the turn of the century. Here's their Touch model with a phone built in from 2009. It's a precursor of their Gear S:

By 2011, smartwatches were beginning to get a lot more attention. Fossil came out with their MetaWatch, Motorola with the MotoActv, and there was the Android based WiMM, whose source company was later bought by Google.

Apple didn't even have a watch project yet.

Then in 2012-13 the Italian I'm Watch came out with both sport and precious metal fashion versions (shades of Apple Watch to come), Sony brought out their Smartwatch model, Martian notification watches were getting popular, and the Pebble project was an unexpectedly large success.

All this happened before serious iWatch rumors.

If anything, all these events pushed Apple into thinking that it was about time to jump into the ring themselves.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good samsung bashing eh?

Well I'll be gobbed; comparing apples mobile business to the entirety of Samsung. That's surely a level comparison. o_O

Billy-the-fish didn't compare Samsung earnings to Apple's earnings. (The latter of which includes more than iPhones, of course.)

He was simply noting that Samsung's profits weren't "going to zero" as Keirasplace had claimed.

You're right though that people should be more specific about which "Samsung" they mean.

While Samsung Electronics overall made $5 billion in 4Q15, their IM section (the part which is mostly phones and tablets) made $1.8 billion. Which is actually an increase from 4Q14 when they posted profits of $1.6 billion.

Agreed the original post refered to phones and samsungs mobile business had a caution issued, which is why the $6B made no sense in the context. I understood "going to zero" to be a "figure of speech" and not an actual number.

After the announcements in Barcelona I feel again that Samsung is given way too much presence here in MR - of course for the sake of page hits. (Like me at the moment) ;)

But innovation wise other manufacturers are way ahead in the Android World. In my opinion LG with its G5 is showing far more interesting stuff. LG had some solid offerings in the past for Android Users. The G2 was probably the best Android smart phone that year (it was definitely better than the 2 Samsung phones my wife and me were force to replaced it with due to its terrible TW software).

Then again LG has had the advantage over the recent years over Samsung because they were doing their own thing (good or bad) and don't have to carry the burden of trying to copy Apple at all cost - unlike Samsung.

Very interesting offering, the LG G5. If me and Mrs BT weren't happy with our iPhone 6s+, then this would be our weapon of choice :)

I don't get this comment. Samsung just announced the Galaxy S7, and there is nothing copied from Apple. The main attractions are the edge display on the larger model, single card carrier with support for SD card up to 200GB or dual SIMs, Gear VR and support for an external 360 degree camera, IP68 water resistance ... all things that Apple doesn't have. And they didn't even have to drop the headphone jack to achieve all that. :p

This comment is so dumb I don't even know where to begin. And I won't engage with you. You need to get your facts straight.

I said over the recent years. Their design and product decision were definately inspired by Apple. Even their website when they launched a competitor to the iPod (not overly successful) looked like a straight rip off from Apple - almost comical.

At other aspects, like the terribly inefficient Touchwiz Software, which at some stage was so bad that Samsung felt they had to cheat on benchmark tests, they were not so successfully inspired. Was that the Note 2 or 3 which had phenomenal benchmarks but then Ars Technica or Anantech found out during reviews that it would take up to 30 seconds to open the Gallery App? :p

Anyway, apart from Gear VR support the S7 seems more like a 'corrected' S6 - an evolution. The decision to drop the SD card support wasn't received too well among the Samsonauts it seemed.

Ah, who cares. Some should buy, whatever they like. I had Samsung (mediocre to sucked), a LG (good), Sony Xperia (very good software wise) and now back to iPhone (good). If I had to go Android, I had no problems with it, but would defiantly chose not a Samsung phone again (like many of my colleagues as well for the matter :D).
