It's actually a tale as old as Apple. Tech nerds look at the specs of Apple stuff and go "it's less powerful and way more expensive than [insert Windows/Android/Whatever device here], Apple fans must be sheep to buy it" not realizing the software, integration, and ecosystem makes it far nicer to use than the supposedly "better" competition.

Back on topic, interesting when everyone on MacRumors can't pile on fast enough to declare AVP a dead product in a dead product category that not only is Samsung playing in the same field, they broke out the photocopier again to do it. It's almost as if Samsung thinks there is a market here, and that maybe that a state-of-the-art product that was priced higher than the average American's monthly take home pay isn't Apple's endgame here, but rather they're going to use it to push the technology forward and down in price.
Errrr… Samsung had a similar looking headset before the AVP. Apple’s closed AVP won’t be able to compete on price and features against the open Android VR and the wave of devices that are coming. AVP is dead.

As expected zero originality from Samsung - it will probably have ‘vision’ or ‘pro’ in the naming too, haha. I don’t buy anything from Samsung out of principle. As corporate as they are nowadays, at least Apple improves existing tech categories when they decide to jump in…

We heard literally the exact same thing about iOS vs. Android and Mac vs. Windows. I'll believe it when I see it.

Samsung has completely lost their identity, they mimic Apple on everything. That new Galaxy S25 looks just like my iPhone 14 pro.
Awesome thing Apple has never copied a feature of a competitor.

I'll look forward to Apple releasing the first world-ever OLED laptop. Seriously, why does MR allow such hyperbolic false statements from its members?

Apple devouts sure don't help their perceived credibility when they do this. With all due respect (and I mean it!), can we eliminate such falsehoods from this site? I'd really appreciate it. I accept Apple & non-Apple (Android, Windows) copy each other. Please keep this in the back of your brain.

What is the Samsung equivalent to sidecar, airdrop, and continuity? Genuinely curious. I don't want to hear, download this app, that app, etc.
Ho look at Samsung website and you’ll see you can do the same with their phones, tablets and computers.

Airdrop comes with Android and is available as well. It’s called different but same possibilities.

All the things promised for iOS 18 are already available. You seem to be stucked in the walled garden of Apple and never looked over the fence.

Did he say Apple has never copied a feature? No. But Samsung has a long and glorious history of shamelessly copying Apple products whole-cloth. It's happened over and over and over and over again. Courts in the US and Germany ruled that Samsung infringed on Apple's designs (iPhone 3GS and Galaxy S; iPad and GalaxyTab 10.1), and anyone who looks at current packaging and even their earbuds or MagSafe chargers can see it.

Honestly I'd say it's more like a Quest 2 pro with a silver finish

The Vision Pro has a more gentle curvature, like two conjoined circles, whereas the Quest and Samsung headsets are more compound curves.

No matter how many time people say that this is a common AR design (as it is), and that Samsung had it before AVP showed up, there is certain number of people who scream COPY without checking the facts. Or images on internet.

But it doesn’t matter. Samsung os entering the market with yet another ski goggles. I predict it will be no more successful than AVP. While they are fun gadgets for certain things I believe 99% of the people would forget about it in couple of weeks.

Sad thing is the AVP is still a solution looking for a problem. Yet Sammy is happy to start its photocopier.
We are rapidly becoming a more diverse media and significantly denser population. Thus, the days of the huge screen and very loud music and video device will become less attractive. Apple Vision Pro and the other like devices fixes the new trends nicely. If one looks at a home theater system costs, could even save costs. The problem just around the corner.

Why are people saying AVP is a dead product? Have they even demoed it? I demoed it the other day and find it amazing. It’s definitely groundbreaking, has many use cases and by all means is a successful product. Any other company that sold $1.8 billion worth of a product would be deemed a success. Keeping in mind two things, it is its first iteration with many iterations to come and it is the “Pro” model. Personally I want one, I’m saving for one, but I’ll probably get the second generation product with the hope it’s a little bit cheaper.

Hopefully Samsungs model will encourage Apple to bring the price down.

Apple announces the new features in advance, Samsung rushes to copy them even if these perform mediocrely.
Apple takes their time to present a fully functional feature done right.
Example:
FaceID. Android's solution is garbage, can't compare to Apple's.

Yes, but will it follow a similar formula as Android apps in general? Even though Android has a far greater marketshare worldwide, developers still tend to prioritize iOS first because 1) it's easier to develop for far few devices and 2) Apple device users tend to spend A LOT more money on apps/software than their Android counterparts.

The difference is hardware here

All of your points, which are correct, are moot in the VR space if nobody has Apple hardware because it's too limited (one offering) and WAY too expensive

Apple needs a sub $1k "Vision" ... like yesterday

Mix of reasons. Some people just don't think it's a product category Apple should be in, others are mad they can't afford it, still others don't like Tim Cook and want him to fail, still others somehow think that a product that starts at $3500 (which is more than the average American's monthly take home pay) was going to sell at iPhone-levels despite the fact that analyst expected they could only make 500k of the devices in 2024. Then there was a rumor that Apple stopped production of the AVP. Which if true (and supply chain rumors often aren't), could be for any number of reasons that don't mean Apple is done with the product or the category, but people have their preconceived notions/biases and are running with it.

If Apple never makes another one I'll be sorely disappointed- it's definitely my favorite tech of 2024 and I use it almost every day.

None of the Android vs iOS comparisons are relevant here until Apple cuts about 70% off the AVP price so they actually get some buyers and developers interested in it in any quantity

They desperately need consumer interest (owners) in it to drive development interest

Even that doesn't assure it though -- just look at Apple TV Apps ...mostly just nothing but content viewing App portals.

Headset form factors still have many challenges to overcome with social acceptability, isolation, comfort, etc

I know we've gone back and forth on this ten times and you disagree with me, but I really don't think they need it like yesterday. They absolutely need to reduce the price before it'll go mainstream, but we're still super early days in this market and they've got plenty of time for the price of the tech to come down; apps are being built for it, and there is more and more immersive content for it all the time.

Without shaming any of the Apple haters on here, it’s hilarious to see them unapologetically loving the AVP clone whilst making stuff up about other OS's (Xiaomi runs HyperOS not Android btw) and saying how well it will do, and simultaneously saying how the AVP is dead.

Personally I can’t wait to see how it works out the battery solution.

Lightweight with no details on weight
Ergonomically optimized

And that is all we know other than they copied the look, feel and use case of the AVP.

Why, when no one has competition in that space. And let’s face it, this is just another Tesla Roadster at this point. Except Samsung cannot even be bothered giving any actual details on it.

I’d love to see them actually compete so Apple are forced to drop the price. Just like Apple were forced to increase the size of iPhones when Jobs didn’t want to.
