I am surprised they can even do something like this. Seems to be a massive violation of personal freedom.

His job is to play football. Can you wear whatever you want to the office (assuming of course that you work at an office)? They restrict a bit before, during and a bit after the event (including the post-game interviews), but they don't tell him he can't use Beats headphones ever.

That said, I find this sort of funny. As others have pointed out, he put them into a pretty good pickle using pink ones to "promote breast cancer awareness." If the NFL has any brains, they'll donate that fine to breast cancer awareness/research.

I've never seen a batch of more clueless responses than I'm seeing here. It's called advertising, marketing, promotion, sponsorship, brand awareness. All companies big and small engage in those activities. It's what drives our economy. Nothing works until something gets sold.

Bose has a deal with the NFL to promote it's products. If you have individual employees actively displaying competing products you've got a problem.

And that problem is with the employees. In this case Kapernick. He's effectively giving his bosses the middle finger by doing this. And they're punishing him. Its the way the world works. Get used to it. Oh, and the Easter Bunny isn't real.

What headphones does your company require you to wear?

honestly, the NFL is such a joke.

i hate football, it's boring and the entire organization is run by idiots.

you can't do celebrations (which were the best part of the game as every celebration was unique)..

now you can't wear headphones?

The NFL Players Association should do something about this. This getting way too ridiculous.

Also herd Steve Ballmer, the LA Clippers new owner, has banned all Clippers employees to use anything Apple related.

I guess human slavery is alive and well. Wear what we tell you boy!

Yeah they're called North Korean work camps. But not here, he works for an organization that cut a deal. He's free to leave if he chooses :p

But this was most likely just a troll post (I hope).

Oh he can wear them all day everyday, except to work. NFL is his employer and his employer cut a deal with a headphone company. I don't see the injustice here. Microsoft is a company that bans sales of iOS devices to their customers.

Yet it's not banning their ability to purchase them outside of the work place.

I have a hard time believing if the situation were reversed that everyone here would be saying "follow the rules". Didn't Apple just get ticked off because of a magazine engaging in bendgate?

Would you support an Apple exec using a Samsung device at work?

Here's what Apple should do. Pick the top 5 players on every team who wear Beats. Tell them to wear the hell out of them in every camera shot, and they will cover the fines.

32 teams * 5 players * $10,000 = $1.6M per week, $25.6M per NFL regular season. Or, they could cover only the nationally-televised games each week and cut the cost down. That is chump change to Apple and they will get a ton of publicity out of it.

the fine dosent increase for repeat offenders?

in light of your calculations what is bose paying per year?

I hope this whole thing blows up in the NFL's face. I would never buy beats, but to tell people what headphones they can wear is ridiculous.

My sentiments exactly. I would never buy Beats or Bose, but this rule is BS.

Like the story about them supposedly telling the athletes at the Olympics that they couldn't use their iPhones in public. It just infuriates me.

That is not the publicity that apple is after.

That would be a very childish way to approach it.

We don't know that yet but it was reported a $50 million a year offer from Motorola was rejected by the NFL. Thus one would imagine Bose would be paying $55-60 million per year minimum, if not a lot more.

Forgot to say, this kind of poor behavior by corporations will continue until people give them enough grief to stop. You might say why bother? Well because next time it will be what they eat, what clothes they wear, and what they can say etc., etc, etc. Maybe already is that way, but we should push back against reductions in our freedoms no matter how small and petty.

This type of nonsense between the NFL and the players will probably cause a LOSS of business for Bose.

To make disparaging comments about the IQ of ANY NFL player is just a cheap shot from someone who knows absolutely nothing.

He doesn't technically work for the NFL. He works for the 49ers, a member of the consortium that is the NFL. Bit of a gray area. Besides, I work for a law firm. If I choose to get my legal services from someone else does that mean I can't take a call from my lawyer while I'm at work?

Not sure what you meant by "bans sales of iOS devices to it's customers." MS's supposed directive (one which they never confirmed or denied) was that company funds could not be used to buy Apple products. That's different from telling people they can't wear the headphones they want when they might be seen by the public while at work.

The clueless one is you. Nobody begrudges the NFL if they restrict the players when it has something to do with football. They fine players for drinking before a game. Fine. Because drinking effects your game. Etc. But telling a player what they can wear in front of the camera is ridiculous. The deal between the NFL and Bose has nothing to do with the players. If Bose wants the players to wear their gear, Bose should pay the players, like Beats is paying the players. Thats the way business works. Get used to it.
