Right. I mean, I'll look at the newer models, sure...may even decide to go that way, but if I can get a good deal on the "old" model, I'm probably leaning toward that...have been waiting for the refresh to see if I can get a lower price, etc.
That being said, will they be pretty quick to move old stock into the refurb section? I really wasn't paying close attention to how quickly 1st gen iPads were discounted, I just know they were, at some point....also, will the retail stores sell off older model stock or do they ship them all back to be sold centrally from the refurb store?

Given the thickness of the machine, a mobile GPU is the only thing that will fit.
um, ok. Some of us do care, when there is no way an iMac will hold enough internal storage.

I am not ashamed to admit that I do not understand what Tampa Tom has said. Abolishing the ability of your graphics card? Sandy Bridge was designed with an integrated content protection to prevent piracy of high-end digital quality? What does that mean? It doesn't sound good. What type of content? Thank you, in advance, for any replies.
P.S. There are quite a few comments here regarding USB 3.0 and Blu-Ray. I think that if I go out and buy a brand new computer and it has USB that it really ought to at least offer the newest version. As far as Blu-Ray, I think that it would really be nice if Apple would at least offer it as an option for those that want it and are willing to pay a little extra. Just like extra RAM or a larger HD.

Apple really needs to get on the SATA-3 bandwagon. There are already plenty of SSD choices that can utilize the higher throughput, and more drives are on the way.
Not to mention the fact that most motherboards out there today all have SATA-3 and have for a while now.

Okay, so now all I have to do is hope for SATA 3 SSD connections and the prices to drop to i5 @ $1699 and i7 @ $1999. Some REAL good GPUs and more standard ram.
I hate to say it but I'll keep holding off if the interface connections don't start jumping up in spec. It's retarded to see Thunderbolt and no SATA 3 or USB 3. It will a (re)selling point later on when you're looking to sell it off for the next new one.
ThunderBolt to USB 3.0 adapters do exist. And it's not in direct view so it doesn't really matter how the connection looks....
Right now, Thunderbolt does not deliver faster connector technology to drive external displays. Displayport 1,1a has a bit more bandwidth, Displayport 1,2 has more than twice the bandwidth.

You're saying they aren't going to ship the 27" iMac with its current IPS screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 ? Proof ?
Even with all of the debates that are going on in this thread, I am excited about this update. I have been waiting for the new iMac. I am currently using a 1.42GHz eMac G4 that I purchased new in ~ 2005. It still runs great and I have no complaints with it. I do believe that I will still wait for the early issues that come with any new machine to be resolved and for the newest version of OS X.
No offense, but it's rather likely the following revision will launch a refined design. (It's usually done in the fall refresh historically.) This design is rather old and still fashions the old poly carbonite white i-Mac design. Changing the material to unibody aluminum was just a material change that gave it a "newer more modern" look, but it still wasn't a full on redeux. The last major complete redesign was when it went from the iLamp to this form factor.
Though maybe 1 more year.... not quite sure what more than can do with the design except maybe ditch the entire bezzle for 21.5-27" of sexy screen.
They will be amazing machines without a doubt, but I'll never go back to an iMac until a Matte option is available.
It'll be faster than the quad core models for sure and is comparable to the 3.33Ghz 6-core model as shown in these benchmarks.
eSata works great, just plug into a SATA port on the motherboard, and insert the external connector in a vacant PC-card slot. (6 Sata ports on the MB) ... of course only works if you have a Mac Pro. iMacs sure are pretty, but gotta have options (like 4 HD's plus SSD in the case).

Will we see 1080p target display support ... It would be really cool to play xbox 360 on iMac in 1080p ... 720p ain't too bad but with all it's 27inch awesomeness 1080p isn't too much to ask for eh?
